Classic Course
This was my first time playing the course and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The fairways and greens were in terrific shape, very well manicured. I played with one other person and when we got out on the course there was no one in front of us so the round went smooth. The pro shop staff were very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this course for anyone of any level! I will be coming back to play it again before the years out.
Good course, but probably overrated
I was in the area and played this course because it has showed up as a top Illinois course in past years. I think it is a nice course, but certainly not spectacular. The greens and fairways were in really good shape for a public course. It seemed like the tee boxes and bunkers were a little torn up, but not unplayable. There were a few quirky holes including a short par 5 that had trees blocking the fairway. There was also a long par 3 over a ravine that most people I watched had trouble reaching the green area. The rate of play was pretty slow for a Thursday morning. I played in 4.5 hours, but it could have been 5 if the groups in front of us had not quit their rounds early. If you want to hit range balls before your round arrive early because you have to drive to get to the range. There is also a halfway house for snacks/drinks that sits near the 7th and 12th holes. This is because the course routing does not take the 9th hole back to the clubhouse. Overall this is a good course that I may play again, but I would not consider it one of the top courses I have ever played.
Great venue!!!
This was a very pleasant surprise. I had been trying to play for a few days since getting into Chicago. I saw this on GolfNow and booked my tee time.
The course looked great from the first tee. The elevation changes added to the course strategy. Dog legs kept my driver in the bag most of the day. The elevated greens fit right into my high ball flight. The greens were very receptive to my shots. Had to repair a lot of ball marks. The staff was very friendly. Because of the course design they have a mini shop on the course. I loved that. I had a great time. Will try and book tomorrow.
Great day of golfing
Have a great day could not believe how green the course was definitely a tough course rental clubs was a little old but I still shot a 80 with them can't wait to Play It Again
Very nice course just enough trees
Very nice course just enough trees to add to the challenge. Water hazards didn't come into play.
The greens were a bit slow, but I was told the could be lighting fast at times. Enjoyable round
In spite of my score.
Totally Target Golf
With elevated greens this course requires high approach shots. No rolling onto the greens here.
Excellent Staff
The course is in great condition. The windy conditions made the course extremely challenging. The staff is extremely friendly and courteous. Merchandise prices are very reasonable. Excellent overall experience.
Classic Jewel
This course is a classic parkland design with tree-lined fairways laid out over rolling terrain. The course was in very good condition. The greens were rolling well. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Pace of play was very good. It is one of my favorites in the Chicagoland area and well worth the approx. 1 hr. trip from Chicago.
Great day
Wonderful course.Trees ! water ! I get so tired of links style golf. This course was/is an old fashion tree lined golf course. Some very tough holes, some very straight forward. Greens in good shape. Staff very friendly. Not at all busy. Only complaint is they sent chef home early because of few golfers still on course. Had to go elsewhere to eat after round.
Great layout
This was my 1st time playing Balmoral Woods, and it won't be my last. The layout was great and called for target golf. Greens sloped severely back to front and were very fast.
Wow!
What a great staff, course, amenities. Yardage book and range finder for every cart. Challenging yet fun holes. Only bad thing is clubhouse doesn’t circle back on 9. Overall great course.
Good value
Overall a nice round. Tee time 1:10, course was wide open so pace was very good. Greens still need some work along with bunkers but still a fun layout.
