Old gem of geneva
Definitely not the course it was 15 years ago but still a fun layout and always a great value for golf
Great Course!
Very nice course for the money. Greens were in good condition, but on the slow side. Overall a very enjoyable time.
Hit'em Straight . . . or bring lotsa balls
Greens and pin placements were brutal on several holes, as were a few blind approaches. It was a target golf challenge for this retiree.
Fun to play
You have plenty of room to work.
Course heads out and around no right on top off each other here.
All holes offer a different view and challenge. well maintained staff is nice.
Well played shots are rewarded poor shots you have to work but are not killed over it. Bad shoots are bad. Duh
I can play this course and have Ok round of golf but still have a great day. to me that is what golf is about.
Hopper
This is a favorite of ours for along time, but it appears that they have no interest in taking care of there beautiful layout. The fairways were the worst I have played. The rough was really unplayable, and the greens were so slow you couldn't even putt them. Sad to see such a great layout in such sad shape. The replay cost was only going to be $10.00 we elected to drive over to another course just around the corner and pay $25.00 because we knew we would be playing a course that was well taken care of. Can not recommend playing here very sad.
Good day turned bad
Have played the course 8-9 times previously. Several holes are defended with hidden hazards that local knowledge requires you to avoid. Some of the course is a little gimmicky. The 7th green is only about 16 yards deep but about 53 yards wide. The course next has a nearly blind par 3 8th Hole. The 9th completes the front-nine gimmickry with a sloping uphill fairway that drops into a rather large swale about 265-275 yards out from the blue tees. The swale rises up to a plateau area of fairway maybe 45 yards long. This then drops off into a crater with water. Hit a 250 yard drive from the blue tees and you're 240 out with a totally blind shot over trees hugging the right side. The hole is a par 5 that forces you to hit a 100-125 yard lay-up shot for your second unless you're capable of hitting laser accurate fairway woods that travel 240 yards or so. The 10th hole is a little suspect, (it used to have a sign forbidding the use of drivers off the tee,) but the back-nine is more legitimate.
Ok course
The course while a challenging was in poor shape. I've never played a course that while hitting a CLEAN fairway shot that my club is grabbed. Additionally they were mowing which is fine however the amount of grass that was left on the course was as if you cut your grass for the first time in three months.
The course staff was zero help in transferring clubs to cart or cart to bag drop.
Mill creek
The course is challenging, but that is much more fun than those that are not.
I played a day after it rained, but fairly good drainage allowed for a nice game.
Greens were slow due to the rain but by the third hole we adjusted.
Golf Now gave us a good rate and we will definitely return.
Some fairways are narrow or blind, but will be better advised the next time out.
Terrible Conditions for Price
The course was completely saturated yet it hadn't rained. The tees were over grown with weeds and/or full of unrepaired divots. The grass in the fairways and greens were long. Everything needed to be cut and rolled. It was as if they hadn't cut the grass in a week. I've played there several times over the years and this was by far the worst conditions I've seen there. I won't go back.
dopgolf
Course was in very good shape, staff was friendly and attentive. Course is challenging for the average golfer with a lot of blind shots and drives over marshland and hazards. After rain and watering, approach shots need to be at the pin as there was very little roll. Practice area is average and used mats when we played. Also restricted to cart path only due to heavy rains previous day and night.
Not worth Your money
No a friendly staff .the course need to be cleaned from a lot of weeds .fairway not in good shap .directionn to the holes not clear .no ranger or starter you are on your own .i did play this course multiple times before this is the worst case
Outing at Mill Creek
Excellent course and facilities. Would recommend to any caliber of player. Many different and challenging holes. Several sets of tees to accommodate any level of player. Will definitely visit again.
The staff was courteous and professional.
The clubhouse was outstanding and there was a snack and beverage cart available throughout the round.
Over grown!
Couldn't even see the fairways. Which then cause people to tee off into the people they can't see in front. Most of the holes had to drive up to see the hole before teeing off. Not a fun course not anything spectacular to come back for.
Quick round
Played a round in just under 4 hours. Pace was fine. Course was in decent shape, green were good. Overall a good experience.
Day with some of the Family
We had 6 in our party and when I booked thru this service I booked 4 but when I tried to do the other 2 I was unable so I called the course and asked for the time slot after the 4 as it showed open and they took care of it
When we got to the course everyone was very nice and no one said anything about our party size. After everyone hit and as we got ready to hit Asian someone from the course came up and said people were complaining about our party size. So I told the party of 4 to go ahead and two of us stayed behind. We finished the hole and went to the end and our party of 4 was just hitting. We asked what happened and they stated that two other parties cut ahead. So we waited till they played the whole hole and went. We paid for 18 holes but by the time we got to 9w decided to stop as even thou we had to wait to play we had several players asking our forcing their way thru. Our worst player averaged 2 over par.
The other issue that we had is we feel there are a little too many hazards. Course is challenging but maybe a little too many
Mill Creek Golf Club - Geneva, IL
The Good: Short and sporty residential track in the far west Chicago suburbs is fun and challenging. Layout is primarily open, but many holes are cornered by marsh areas and long, thin greens. Green complexes are tough and putt very well. Nice practice facility and short course is a nice touch. Very strong Par 5's and some nice Par 3's. At around $65 during peak season, one of the better public opens east of of I-355.
The Bad: Too many blind shots and hidden water can be very frustrating unless you play the course regularly. Course conditions are only average at best. Limited on-course amenities as there are no restrooms areas and no GPS. Service is only adequate for a mid-scale public course. Par 4's have little variety.
The Verdict: Mill Creek is an often forgotten option in the Western suburbs but a fun course that puts a premium on accuracy of tee and precision iron play. Investment in conditions and staff could do wonders.
Best Hole: The long Par 5 11th has a downhill tee shot and then a dogleg approach that must navigate multiple creeks.
Short, Accuracy course
Many blind shots, lay ups. Relies on confusing sight lines over length. Quirky, lots of water, but good rate and good shape. Would return.
Great chipping, putting areas. Adequate range.
Not walker friendly.
As a twosome, played the front very quickly, as it was fairly empty on a Sun morning. Back 9, a poor playing foursome jumped on 10 ahead of us and never let us through. A low crowd day, no ranger was present (nor should have been needed) to press - this is on the players, not the course. Pace of play would have been fantastic.
Mill Creek
Overall, the course was in perfect condition....wish that I shot better!
However, I was surprised to learn that the $22 rate with cart is available everyday Mon-Thur and that I didn't need to go through Golfnow and pay $5 for their service!
Great value for the money and save yourself $5 by calling the golf shop for tee times and values.
The Course Holds Water Well
Other courses in the area were closed because of standing water but Mill Creek was in great shape. A couple of the under passes had water in them and one was flooded. The course holds the water very well. This is still one of the great values in the area. It is one of the few courses that a single can almost walk on anytime during the week. I'll be back!
Awesome! And Tuff! And What a Challenge!
Tired of the courses in Wisconsin, I ventured an 1hour 20 minutes south into Illinois to play some new golf courses and glad I did, I was paired up with 2 great guys and found this Gem of a course every bit challenging and hard, and yet so enjoyable and fun. The wow factor was a solid 10 of 10. This course built around a beautiful housing development with expensive homes makes this place so beautiful to play. and the course is everything a golfer wants as a challenge from the 1st tee to the last on 18. Green's that are very challenging, The greens make you think about your putts and not just put. Greens were in great shape and had fast roll to them. This is deffinetley a shot makers cours. Not a long course and I scored well here because I used my head and hit 3 wood off the tee to be down the middle and reach all 150 makers, Be smart here if you want to score well. I loved the fact that this course was tight. And I love the fact this course has so many different elevation changes, so much better than your flat course. And 5 par 3's and none not very easy either. So senic. And the fact every tee box makes you hit over the marsh. Friendly staff here. Starter circled a few holes and pointed out very important obsticles before I teed off that came in very handy when I played those holes. If you like a challenge, this course is for you. If you do not like hard golf and like plain flat fairways you will find this course hard. Rough was cut perfect as well. Use a 3 wood like I did to reach the 150 makers and play smart and make every par 4 in 2. That's if you cannot hit your driver straight. You will enjoy your round much better. And repair your green divots, I repaired a lot here, this course deserves golf edicate. Amazing Golf course!!!! Loved it! Holed out with a 40-40=80 on this par 71. So far in my golf travels raked as one of my top 3 par 71 courses I have ever played. Greens should be a challenge, makes you think about putting. Flat greens are boring...........
