Beautiful course and great value!
Staff is very friendly and the course is beautiful. All components are well maintained and the visuals are outstanding. Many of the holes are challenging, but playable by all skill levels. Really a great place to play!
Local
Played here a few times under the $20 reduced offer. I just can't like this course. There are so many areas where if you go OB by 1 foot your ball is gone. Course is just squeezed in too tight and it makes it a semi-frustrating place to play. 3.5 rating is probably right on the money.
Over designed Hot Mess
After a morning round at Hughes Creek I ventured over to Mill Creek for a bonus 18 at the end of the season. As a first timer I was welcomed in the clubhouse and bar.....most pleasant and helpful. I can see why the condition of this track has suffered....it's maintenance nightmare! With the routing through homes (some way to close to the course), all the wetlands, forced carries, mounds, hills/dales and multiple tiers on virtually even green it's a guaranteed 5 hour plus round when crowded. The greens had been late season aerated and it looked as though they needed it. And to score you have to play this place about 5 times (not once or twice) and for the first time in a long while I actually "tired" of the over the top modern design....I should have counted how many total tiers were in the golf greens...too many to count as my normal photographic memory of golf holes/greensites was impossible (thus my 5 play comment...I should have hand mapped each green).
Two major suggestions -
1) strong consideration should be given to installing a top notch gps system on the golf carts (or definitely bring one) as course was "somewhat" marked but first timers/novice golfers will have a difficult time so they aren't intimidated by all the houses and ob....or at very least put some course map yardages on the scorecards
2) since the course winds through housing communities please consider building some bathrooms in the middle of each nine or at minimum have some porta potties (only restroom located at 2nd green was locked and never saw the restrooms which the scorecard says are located at #6 and #15)
All this being said I'll return next season because I like difficult greens and green sites...(where's the windmill?).....it's a course with tons and tons of character just hoping the greens are decent and I'll bring my buddies out for a first time but fully manage their expectations of score and the overall experience because they will lose a ball or two or three. This could be a 4 star plus place but even if immaculate the housing and continued hole after hole over the top design does kinda get old. Definitely a course to consider next season but for $30 or less.
Fun Course
My wife and I have played 15 different courses over the past season. Mill Creek was a fun course to play as you had to be able hit over many wetlands and avoid hazards throughout the course. Will be back for another round next year, as it was a very scenic course.
Suburban Gem
For two novice golfers the course was challenging but not discouraging. Not too long but narrow, you have to hit it straight or lay up, consider your shot and go another club lower for us. Teaching my son to golf and this course was "a gem" for him to learn club selection. On a wider course, he could rip away, here he had to take some off and use controlled shots. Beautiful fall colors and light traffic, exactly why we took this opportunity to golf.
Spoke to GM after 9 and 18, his interaction guaranteed a return foursome. I live 45 miles from this course, I will go back. Only 2 negatives, 1) aerating back nine had us play front twice (not a big deal, we look forward to getting them next time) fall leaves on the ground made it difficult to track and find balls on several occasions (fall golf everywhere) If you can deal with that, this is a GEM, On the other hand it was 62 degrees on 10/20 and I was golfing with my son. What more could you ask for? Thanks Steve, we will be back.

Nice track; very friendly staff!
Very nice course in the West Chicago Suburbs. Easy access from the near West side if you're in town on business. Very friendly staff. Challenging course with good shot values. Greens were excellent the day I played.
Golf At Mill Creek GC -
This course did well with the nasty winter conditions we had last winter compared to some other courses. The greens looked great. However, the pin placements were very difficult for the middle of the week. Fortunately, the green speed was well below US Open speed, otherwise I might still be out there.
Wore Out Course
The course over all could be a very beautiful course, however is lacking grounds crew and tee boxes are wore out. Need to learn that getting as many people possible on a course isn't a good thing. Also they ran out if golf carts so had to wait to tee off.
The course has lots of character.
A challenging course, well maintained. Play as you come, first come first to go.
Placing your shots are a must
Most of the holes were a blind tee shot to start out with. The par 5 were all broken in a sort of island fairway system. They always had a creek bed or something separating the two fairways so you had to place the ball. Also, watch out for those small ponds in front of the greens if you go for the green in 2. Overall I thought it was challenging. Its not extremely long but all the blind shots makes it fun.
Rain.
Extreme amounts of rain took a major toll on the golf course. The course is tough enough in good weather but for most would be unplayable under the conditions that Saturday. Previous rains and the rain that drowned us on the 10th hole made the day quite interesting and not in a good way. Narrow fairways and if you are not familiar with the course there will be some hidden trouble. Houses and streets along some of the fairways puts a little pressure on the importance of driving straight. Lots of ups and downs and very, very long overall if walking. If you can't hit the fairway bring a lot of balls.
Great course! Slow pace!
I've been to this course several times and the pace has always been kinda slow. The last time I went we had a 4 some in front of us and they took their sweet as time on every whole (we were a 3 some). We had a verbal argument on #11 and ended up skipping it because they were moving so slow. They didn't have anyone ahead of them for 2 holes and should have let us play through. The rate of play needs to be monitored.
Solid course.
I thought the course was in good shape. The greens ran true-moderate speeds-very undulated-make sure you are on the right tier or you will have some fun putts.. Tough course if you are not hitting it straight. Water and OB very prevalent on this course.
Need a ranger
Pace of play was incredibly slow. No ranger sighted. Also, beverage cart didn't come until around the 9th hole.
Not what is used to be
Mill Creek was my home course for high school golf and its gone downhill since then.
-no improvements with clubhouse/bar
-grass tees never open
- they put in mats
-course conditions aren't what they used to be
- price is normally competitive here so maybe that is what happened
- used to be $50+ all the time. I see deals no for $25 or $30.
Bottom Line- no terrible for money but would rather play Klein Creek in Winfield
This course is unique and challenging
It's a narrow course with plenty of character. Nice and plenty of hills. Greens are moderate speed with plenty of undulation.
Robert Shadow
The course played slow , we let a threesome play in front of us -- so our foursome did not lag -- and they were waiting too... Marshals don't help - just smile and wave ... " It is ok for them to tell us Hit When you are ready-- instead of the customary furthest from the hole ... " C'mon Man -- We are not pros and this custom only slows play ..The Cart girl we saw ONE TIME and it was 86 degrees... No sandwiches on cart and they were not pre-made in clubhouse , so lived on snickers bars .. That should not happen
Good Bang for the Buck
Can't beat it for the price. Great course for the money.
Mill Creek
I love this course. However, today they had sine type of scramble golf outing going on. This really slowed the play. 4 1/2 hours to get to the 18th hole. Long round.
Course needs to organize better
I signed up as a single, assuming when I got there I would be paired with a group less than 4. I was told I would play alone, which I thought was great play quickly and get in and out. The person inside said there was a few people and I may catch up with some. Unfortunately when I showed to the first tee there were groups already there. My time was 9:44 and I didn't tee off until well after 9:50. I played a couple holes and then those 2 groups allowed me to play through. I was alone on the course for a couple holes until I hit a bunch of foursomes in a row. If you're going to let a single play they assume there isn't a lot of people out there. Unfortunately there was no ranger on the course making sure the groups were playing at pace (which they were all slow) and to start there was no starter making sure groups were starting properly. And because they had all groups starting on the back (no idea why) the 10th hole is a par 4 that is easily drivable so it doesn't allow for 2 groups on it at a time. So the start will be backed up. I walked off the course after 9 holes as I would have waited 5-10 min almost a shot. It would have taken well over 2 hours to play that 9 and I had no where to go or play through to. Not good course management. I enjoyed the course but the staff needs to make sure they are putting full groups out when they can and don't let a single play in between a bunch of full groups.
