Bacon Park's greens were still recovering in August 2018, but they have plenty of interesting contours. This is the 15th. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/07/2018
Golfer Reviews
Since the renovation
This course i would say is better than average. I enjoy playing it and I would recommend it to others and have. The renovation to the original Donald Ross design has made the course more fun to play. The greens are firm and fast. They have more grass on them than most courses I have played nearby this winter. The course like all others I have played recently is winter dormant. Overall the course handles rain well. Where it doesn't they have recently added french drains to attempt to remove excess water.
Prefect Day - Great Round
I was in Savannah visiting my daughter & got the itch to play golf. Bacon Golf paired me with a couple of great guys. We played pretty well, enjoyed the course and had lots of laughts. Great Memories
Bacon park
This course is in great condition. Do your best to hit the fairway because the rough can be deep at times. Greens at running quick and true. Hole #9 doesn't end at the clubhouse so make sure you have drinks and snacks when you start.
Upswing Continues
A few years back, Bacon Park was a course I chose not to.play because of its poor condition. Over the past year, with its new superintendent, the course has risen out of its ashes. Now, I choose to play there and have no reservation recommending it to any golfer.
Lot of YLC needed
Staff, we're great pace of play great 1st 4 holes fairways not great , greens decent, ball rolled well, Bunkers terrible if your not going to prep them or put fresh sand in them jut grab them over, and have grass Bunkers, the course in the back 9 was really good except the bankers. Please them.
Good course
Course was in in good condition, staff very good in pushing time of play
Course review
Staff was friendly and helpful being this was my first time playing here. Course lay out was user friendly. Course could def be a nice Course however the fairway and greens could use some care. Lots of weeds and bald spots. Will play again but would love to see it in better condition.
An Incredible Transformation
For many years, Bacon Park has not gotten the care it deserves...until now. The course has undergone a transformation from barely playable to wonderful. The tees, fairways and, even the greens, are in magnificent condition. Yes, magnificent. If the definition of magic is changing one thing into another then the superintendent and workers are true magicians.
Work in Progress
I feel compelled to write this review because the new management at Bacon Park is really making a concerted effort to make it a solid muni course. It is a work in progress and should be treated as such. I played here last season and it was a tough experience all around. Unfriendly golf shop, lack of balls for driving range, and super patchy greens. This season, the course is improving. It is not in championship condition, but the fairways are more consistently cut, several seriously problematic greens are on their way back, and the experience is trending up. For what you get, I happen to believe the price is fair. There’s work to be done, but the new management is clearly committed to a higher standard and it is evident everywhere. This is not a luxury golf experience, but it is not priced as such either. They are aiming for a respectable municipal round and I think they are on their way to making that a reality.
Course needs work
The course needs some work on many of the greens. It would be nice if they had a cart person selling refreshments.
Last time I played here the greens were trash but I must say it’s definitely getting better! Layout is fun and the staff is friendly but there’s no halfway house to get food/drinks and the pace of play is not great, old member blitz included. It’s a blitz, not the masters
