Should have been mentioned in other review
This course is 30 bucks for 9 holes it should be no more than 15 and 25 for 18. It is NOT worth the money at all.
Worst course in Savannah
Course is bad there isn’t a cart path and when there is it’s just pot holes. Greens actually aren’t that bad but there’s a few with weeds all over it. Doesn’t drain at all and the pace of play is obnoxiously slow.
Mary Calder
Staff was friendly and helpful. Group of 3 teed off behind 2some, couple. His 2nd time playing, her 1st. Caught them on the 3rd hole, but wouldn't allow us to play thru.2 hour plus 1st 9. Thankfully they only played 9, 2nd 9 in less than 1 & 1/2 hours.
Really enjoyed the course and we will be back soon!
Great practice course
I read the reviews and chuckle because when you read this courses description it pretty much screams 9 holes their mini all over it, yet people leave a bad review saying just what the description says it is. It’s a 9 hole practice course and it’s priced appropriately compared to other area courses that are higher priced in much worse shape.
The greenskeeper at Calder actually works his tail off, I do practice rounds every Sunday at Calder, it’s my church and that greenskeeper is out there working in the heat and humid all day. He does a great job for 1 guy. I need to stop and get him a gift card for lunch somewhere one day.
Yes the clubhouse is older and musty but Bacons the same way there old buildings that’s survived years of weather. New clubhouse expect rates to shoot up to 80$ for a mini 9 hole, would you pay that, don’t think so.
But if you want a fun, challenging practice course with a very unique one of a kind background this is a great course. The fairways, tee boxes and greens all in good to great condition. Carts all work good.
I would rather pay 40$ for a playable 9 played back to back, then 60$ for a true 18 that is in bad shape that you can’t even putt at all.
Best Value Course around
Yeah she’s only a 9 hole, but she is well worth it. We usually play the 9 2xs and have yet to find ourselves bored on this course. Well maintained and for the money not much better around. I also like the fact that if you don’t know it’s there you probably haven’t heard of it. Outside of league play/shotgun starts we never have an issue with pace of play here. Paul (course pro) is awesome and always helpful.
JUST AS GOOD
MARY CALDER IS IN THE BEST SHAPE I HAVE EVERY SEEN IT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, BUT IT IS STILL NOT WORTH $42.00.
Good for what it is
It's a developmental course. Decent shape, not busy on a Friday morning. Played 9 holes before starting a Hilton Head trip later that day. Just wanted to get warmed up. Carts were in good shape, there's no cart paths, which wasn't an issue. I left my range finder on the cart and when I called they put it aside for me. When I drove an hour to get it the next day, they said I could have asked them to mail it, which was nice of them to offer.
Working on it
Haven’t played this course for a year. Conditions are improving. Tee boxes are still pretty rough but box layout and spacing is good. Greens have been recently sanded and did not putt well because of that. Fairways are coming back but need more grass in places. Cart paths are still pretty rough. It appears the entire place is being worked on but it’s still got a way to go.
easy course
great value compared to most courses around here now
How is this place still open?
Not even sure where to start. The club house looks like it’s on its way to being condemned. After checking in, not sure why I even bothered with a tee time. My buddy and I got there early and they let us go out and I quote, “as soon is the group in front tees off and your next in that line then go.
Course condition was something else. Tee boxes if you want to call them that were small. Fairways were a mess and greens, well you might have well putted from the fairway. “Greens are in some of the best condition and that I have seen” - Them not me.
I would imagine that everyone there was in the same place I was, saw a course near the airport to be able to get some swings in. However would not recommend to anyone even if it was free to play. They are charging entirely to much, my question what are they putting that money into and yes it was busy.
Train in way
Train blocking entrance to course. I waited but gave up and left. Never made my tee time. Won’t be back
Not Pebble Beach
I'm spoiled. For $40 in Denver you get a great muni course. Here it gets you a barely maintained muni. Tee off, approach shots are fine. No playing out of the traps and I didn't even putt. Great for practice when no one is behind you. Hit 4 balls, get them to the green, pick up and move on.
