Bacon Park's greens were still recovering in August 2018, but they have plenty of interesting contours. This is the 15th. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/07/2018
Great Course!
Greens are in good shape. The greens run slow so you really have to hit the putter. The fairways are getting better too with all this rain. Overall this course is well worth the price. Driving range is good too.
Exceptional Muni
Bacon Park is probably the best shape it’s been in since I’ve played it, with my first experience occurring 25 years ago. The course has seen some layout changes but the most recent formats have had a few years of development and the fairways and greens were in good shape. Still lacking a cart path and halfway house, the Donald Ross course Design is challenging enough for experienced golfers But forgiving enough for beginners and high handicappers.
spend money on the fairways
all but one green was in great shape. fairways need lots of work. hardpan and dirt. Could be a fun course if some more work is done.
Best greens
This course is cheap and the greens are in great shape. Best course for under $40.
Pro-V prices for Rock Flight quality
No idea who these guys think they are but I should be able to play BP three times for what they’re charging. Haven’t played here since October for that exact reason. They’re nuts.
For the price a good course for beginners
A wide open easy layout. Greens on the front 9 are in need of repair. Back 9 much better.
Well maintained
Course greens looking great. Fairways nicely cut. When playing alone can get done in about 3 hours. Nice pace of play from group ahead of me.
Best Value
Best value course in Savannah. Very open and forgiving. Sand traps are not bad at all!
Early Spring
We have played here before this time of year. Grass on fairways is sparse, but thr ground is soft. Greens were really nice (despite some patchy spots) big enough for pin position to avoid said spots. Would like to play this course later in the season...very wide open and forgiving.
Neglected Gem
It's so sad to see a Donald Ross original from 1926 in such terrible condition. Bacon Park needs a lot of work (meaning money and care). The fairways and greens were just terrible. Very sad...
Great for the price!
I've played this course several times as it consistently pops up on Hot Deals!, The course is owned by the city of Savannah but run by a private company. The course is pretty fun and open so it's good for beginners, it is in need of some revamping especially on some of the greens but Everytime I've been there is always course work being done so it looks like they are taking care of it. Overall great course for beginners or groups looking for cheap good golf rounds.
Bacon Park
Golf shop personnel is very friendly and engaging. The course is a wonderful Donald Ross layout. The only negative is that the course is not in the best shape due to years of neglect. Some low areas get excessively muddy due to poor drainage, and in some cases the fairways are more dirt than grass. Tee boxes and greens need lots of work but may get better during the summer when the bermudagrass comes back. If this course were given the attention it deserves, it would be a gem.
County Park Course
Course is in fair condition. Greens are spotty, but smooth and fast. Overall from tees to greens this course needs LOTS of work. Being managed by a company that also has car dealerships...hmmmmm . If you go on GolfNow, you can get a tee time for about $22 with all fees included. Believe me, that is all this tract is worth at the most. Also with leagues most mornings and locals having Blitz Golf rounds you probably would be smart to avoid all the morning tee times. Excruciating slow pace of play at most times I have played the last 3 rounds. Vacationing here and will not even consider this course on future visits. There are Much better courses for only a few dollars more. Sosad, because the layout is really good, but obviously someone doesn't want to invest the money to make it a course that could be so much more. I would NOT recommend and would advise to seek tee times somewhere else.
Sad old and tired
I guess I wasn’t expecting much based on other reviews and the price but the reality is this is not worth wasting your time total hardpan and bare fairways greens were spotty at best traps needed attention at least the carts were new
Great course Tough greens
Great course layout, with moderate fairway conditions. Greens were pretty good condition and very fast with lots of undulations. Tough for first timer, but that just makes me want to go back all the more. Leagues most mornings, so after 10:30-ish are best tee times to get.
Can't wait for next time.
A Donald Ross Gem
While Bacon Park is a mini and not in pristine condition, it is another example of Ross’s genius. It is fun to play for any caliber of player; lots of room off the tee, room to run the ball into the greens and no forced carries. It’s bargain to play. Staff are friendly. And, if you appreciate great golf course design, you need to visit Bacon Park. And, did I mention what a bargain it is?
EXACTLY Never play here again worst greens Ive ever played on EVER,,
