Bacon Park's greens were still recovering in August 2018, but they have plenty of interesting contours. This is the 15th. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/07/2018
Cheaper courses with much better conditions
Fairways were horrible. I understand it is January but other courses in the area are in so much better shape and the green fees much cheaper. I was putting from 15 yards off the green as the fairways were putting just as fast as the greens. Love the layout. The man in the pro shop was great, but 50 bucks to play on a dirt track is not something I plan on doing again. Unfortunate.
Not worth the money
Greens horrible, no cart paths but carts have very touchy GPS. This is a Municipal course but Savannah has obviously neglected it. Courses in the surrounding areas are in much better condition. At this moment, play anywhere but here. Hope they come together to get this course in better shape.

GREENS NEED SERIOUS ATTENTION!!!!!
I remember this course from my high school days and City Amateur Tournaments. The greens are in very much of work. The fees are to high for the course condition. It's a shame to see this great public course in this condition. My suggestion would be to close the course over the next 2 - 3 months and work to get this well known course in the playing condition it once was.
Donald Ross Course needs some TLC
I’m a big fan of playing Ross courses. IN savannah, there are few public courses. The experience of playing a DR course is fun but the course needs some loving! Fairways in spots bare and forced to roll a ball to a grass area. Rough was multi level but due to the cutter missing areas, Greens had large repair areas but did not affect putting. I’d rather see the greens keepers to blow off the small stuff off greens. They rolled ok. Sand soft but the grass cutter used the bunkers as the place to blower cut grass on numerous holes. Tee Boxes level. Loved the openness. Im going to play it again tomorrow because of convenience, value and it was actually a fun course once you accept that its needed TLC. Consider it a rescue dog and just enjoy the layout. You’ll get a fair play. Practice green and chipping areas should be closed and deemed under repair!
from bad to horrible
course has been through rounds of supposed improvement, and it is not working. the greens continue to worsen, most fairways have sparse grass with weeds and uneven cut lengths. the sand traps were unkempt and hard bottomed. this course is in need of a real grounds keeper and it isn't likely to happen. also ,they use gps for their carts and the gps system is totally ludicrous. makes navigating the course almost impossible and adds to the overall dislike and frustration for this place. this course is bad and bound to stay this way for a very long time.
Okay, but WET
Course has alot of potential to play great. Maybe an unfair reveiwq, but it was walking only and the fairways were so saturated with water it was difficult to even walk.
I see alot of potential for a better experience on this course. Greens were in good shape and I could see it running fast.
Solid Muni course that’s short and fun.
Like I said in the subject, it’s a short course. It’s also quite fun to play, not a ton of difficult stretches. This would be good to take people who aren’t very good/people that are learning. I enjoy it and the staff is always nice.
Great time & great value
My sons and I were in town and couldn’t pass up the chance to play a Donald Ross design. The course was very fun and forgiving except for the greens. They live up to the Ross reputation. There was some piled grass on the course and some bare patches on the greens but, they did not negatively effect our enjoyment. The pace was fast, the course was fun and I would definitely recommend this course. It is a great value.
Vast improvement
The course looks the best it has in four years. The green are in very good shape. It is evident the ones under repair and the progress of the repairs. The fairways are in good shape as well.
The next investment needs to be cart paths around the entire course. Some fairways have cart tire ruts because there is no clear path when the course is wet.
Keep up the good work.
Needs some serious TLC
The staff was very nice and welcoming. The course just needs some serious attention. Mounds and mounds of cut grass in the fairways and very long (unintentional) rough. The course was absolutely soaked, which I have never really seen on a coastal course (natural sand bases). All this being said, if it was only $30 or so a round, it wouldn't be as big of a deal, but $60+ is wildly over priced. Additionally, the carts are equipped with GPS that would kill the cart on paths near certain greens/tees.
Avoid avoid avoid
Terribly maintained course. If your ball isn’t in the fairway it will be lost as they don’t maintain the rough. Course also uses GPS carts but hasn’t mapped the course correctly. Adds tons of time to play.
Avoid not worth price lots of courses nearby for a better value .
the course is in very good shape they just hadnt cut the rough recently because of all the rain. im sure it will be taken care of very soon if it hasnt been already !
Fun classic and great value in Savannah
Donald Ross 1926
Fairways and greens are maintained and in good condition though tee boxes show signs of frequent use. The areas that are mostly out of play are left on the wild side, and that’s OK by me. It’s a very playable course that isn’t overly penal. Some might say it’s easy, as if any golf is easy. The terrain is flat so Ross used bunkering, dog legs, raised greens, and trees for defense. There are a few lateral hazards, particularly the hole wrecking stream on #18, but generally, one can survive quite a few disobedient shots. The mature trees with their hanging moss and the din of crickets and cicadas add to the parkland feel and overall, it’s very fun to play and a good value too.
