Bacon Park's greens were still recovering in August 2018, but they have plenty of interesting contours. This is the 15th. Photo submitted by TimGavrichGP on 11/07/2018
Possibly the worst course I have ever played
Three years ago I vowed never to play this course again; however, new ownership and numerous renovations enticed me and my crew to give it another shot. I should have stuck to my guns! The staff was rude - as if I inconvenienced them and the course was abysmal. There are too many other courses to enjoy to give this one a shot.
Great Value
Golfnow.com needs to update their info regarding Bacon. They DO NOT except Golf now reservations. Moreover, the fees shown on the Golfnow site are wrong. The course charged me $12.00 ;not the $27.00+/- as advertised.
major problems
When we arrived, we were advised that the course no longer accepted golf.now reservations. They called golf.now so that we could obtain a refund, which we were advised would appear on our American Express within 3 days. The price we had booked on golf.now was 8.00 per person (which was about what the golf course was worth). To be able to play that day we were charged 27.00 per person and were very dissatisfied with the condition of the course. The greens were in terrible shape and were actually painted green. The bunkers were solid mud. We have booked today for a course here in Sarasota and are hoping for better results. Thank You
could be a great place to play.
For $10 you get what you pay for. The fairway are OK at best, the T boxes are on somewhat sad shape, and finally the greens. The greens looks like astro turf that has been sitting out side for 3 years, and used sand to make them playable. For me, who does not play great (shooting 100-110) for $10 it's not too bad. Their's hardly anyone out there, so you have the chance to play a shot several times and do not have to worry about anyone catching up to you. The club house is nice, but the lunch menu is sad. Bacon Park has so much potential, it's unfortunate that the city has let this happen.
Complete DUMP!!!!
Some of the greens don't have grass. No one should pay more than ten dollars to play this course and that is being generous. The city is letting what could be a little gem, turn into a weed patch. Don't waste your time or money!!!
This course needs alot of work done to it!
They need to maintain the green's and the fringes it's is very very poor condition. The fairway was very rough and wasn't much of a fairway!
I had fun the fairways were in good shape
There was a little confusion at first having played the courses in the past and only a few holes from each course were utilized to make 18 holes. This was probably due to all the rain in the prior weeks. The greens need work! All in all it worth the money!
There 9 holes courses with variety of challenges.
The course consists of three 9 holes courses, each offering different levels of challenge. You can combine the courses to play depending on you skills and how hard you want your golf day to be. There are different challenges from water to bunkers and a variety of playing angles depending on your drives from the tee. The staff is very friendly and professional.
Basically the worst course i've ever played!
If you could just imagine your backyard in the worst shape ever with the grass not cut you would not be close to how awesome this place really is. The amazing thing about bacon is that its secretly a huge sand trap with grass coming out of it. The greens are probably the most difficult I've ever put on; the sand traps all over it make it hard to aim at anything. If your in the mood to really blow it bud go ahead and book it. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!
Worst Course Ever
This was the worst course ever. Don't play it. The greens are bad. The fairways are bad. The tee boxes are bad. The bunkers are bad. The practice facilities are bad. It's all bad.
Course was in bad shape. No grass on some tees, alot of bad greens.
The starter and clubhouse personnel were very nice. The course was extremely slow. Some tees did not even have grass on tee box. Fairways were brown, but it was still winter. Greens were way to fast for a public course, and several had pieces of grass gone. Would not play again.
Cheap!
You will get what you pay for at this course. Cheap rates & poor conditions. The staff (manager/owner) was rather rude and complaining that i made my tee time online with golfnow.com. He didn’t honor our tee time or want to accept that I paid in full online even though i had printed & brought my receipt with me. We ended up waiting over an hour to tee off because we were "bumped" to the end and had to wait for a cart. They simply don’t have enough carts to accommodate a Sunday crowd and he used our booking method as an excuse. If i hadnt already prepaid for the round then we would have left for sure
Average Muni
Course does have 27 holes which speeds play. Greens and fairways need some TLC! For the money, it is ok.
Poorly maintained municipal course.
I played the course 10 years ago and found it had deteriorated significantly. Greens were in bad shape and fairways in worse. Tee boxes?
Give Back to Animals
The lack of upkeep on this course is horrible - especially when compared to other courses in the area! Instead of paying to play this course, the city should pay you to play.
Should be ashamed to charge for a course in that shape!
Was visiting on vacation and booked online because the course was close and inexpensive. Should have looked further. The people working at the course should have gotten up on the other side of the bed. Very rude people!!
There are other courses that are better in the area; greens need work
This course was ok. It's not the most challenging course, but it is still no pushover. My biggest complaint is the condition of the greens. Some of the greens were missing patches of grass which made putting harder because you had no idea how the ball would react. What would normally be a good putt could end up way off because of the inconsistent greens. Not my favorite course. There are many other courses in the Savannah area I choose ahead of this one.
27 holes to play
Bacon Park offers three different 9-hole choices to play your round of 18. The course has a descent range of challenges without making any hole too difficult. There are plenty of turns and a few hazards to keep you thinking, and a few wide open areas to help rescue that un-planned fade, hook or slice.
The clubhouse offers a nice little vaiety of food, snacks and beverages with lots of room to take a break at the turn, or hang out and tell tall tales after your round.
