Slog thru the bog

Visited Atlanta and looked forward to playing a challenging course. Weather didn't help as it was damp, windy and cold (for me - lower 50s). Started out ok - paid fee, got some range balls. The first surprise was the range - hit from flat, hard mats (not a deal breaker read on). After a few shots and realizing my 7I was getting scarred permanently from sand on the mats - I STOPPED. Went to chipping area and then to putting green. Got off a little late (frost delay) but no biggie as that happens often this time of year. Pace was ok on front and really improved on back. Layout is not for shorter hitters (I chose White as 75 year old driving about 175 before rollout (none on this day). Don't expect to return as there are other options in Atlanta.

Pace of play

We are behind two groups of 5 ( that each were playing extremely slow) we left after 8 holes which took 2 and half hours plus. The most ridiculous experience on a golf course I’ve ever had

Greens are in very good condition! They have improved on pace off play. Keep up the good work. If the bunkers were filled with sand this course would be the best in the Atlanta area. Shoot my best rounded ever.

Good casual golf course

Tee boxes are 4/10, Fairways are 7/10, Greens are 6/10, layout is 8/10, golf carts are 6/10. 3.5 star rating but adding half a star since they have 27 holes. Solid 4 star spot for casual golf. Not where’d I’d go for work golf however.

Hard to the point of being punishing

I’ve played this course several times as it is the closest course to my home. It’s interesting and fairly well maintained. I am frustrated though by several of the holes that end of being punishing for a senior golfer like me, even playing the forward tees. An example is #3 hole on the Heritage course. There is a long carry over a pond from the tee. Last time, despite hitting one of my best shots from the tee, it came up about 10 feet short of carrying the water. In fact, none of the 4 of us carried the water, and our group included a 30-something golfer playing the senior tees with us.

Some bunkers are ridiculously deep. There are many deep drainage basins in the fairways, in addition to many fairway bunkers. Several holes have extremely uneven surfaces and big hills. I’ve never seen anyone walk this course. It would be a very difficult walk.

As I said, interesting but be warned about the features that will kick your butt.
