Smoke Rise Country Club

Challenging course and fun layout. Lots of elevation changes and dog legs. I played in November and the greens were still in very good shape, fairways were good, but tee boxes were a bit rough. Overall a good course and experience.

The club is taking advantage of the time of the year for doing renovations of the pro shop and restaurant so they essentially don't exist at this time. Again, its November so few golfers are being impacted. As far as the course goes, its extremely hilly and the greens are in awful shape. The fairways were okay and cleared of falling leaves so that's a plus. The tee boxes are marked with sticks so it was difficult to find the colors of the ones we were using if they were marked at all. Most of what I've written that might be construed as negative can be attributed to it being Autumn but tee box markings are all on management. It was an overall good experience and I'm satisfied I played there.

This course was not a great layout with some Mickey Mouse holes. The greens were good but the rest of the course was in awful shape. Not only that, the clubhouse was closed so you couldn’t get a drink or even stop to use the bathrooms. You had to use an port a john. Terrible experience.

I feel bad for the extremely wealthy people who have this course as their country club. I got to play here on a $52 hot deal and it felt like I should pay $52 on any given day. Course is not in great condition, lay out is confusing, tee boxes missing markers. Felt like a movie where I was playing a once great course that was in disrepair that Chevy Chase was trying to save.

OK, I take it the clubhouse has faced calamity in December and it's being rebuilt. That does not justify the absence of a marshall to check on pace of play (more than 5 hours on a Saturday, just because of ONE group ahead of us), and of a beer cart to keep you hydrated. If you are taking more than 5 hours to play, you'd better have something to drink while you wait.

The course itself - maintenance could improve a lot. Sand bunkers are mostly dirt, and the little sand that remained after most of it was carried away by previous rains (it has not rained in our area for more than a month, so this is old news). Patches of fairway are bare, as well as the tee boxes (some of them).

Positive point: the guy doing the burgers/dogs at the turn - great food and very nice guy!

Great greens, interesting holes, too many doglegs but fun. First three very narrow but challenging. Staff was 7 stars! Clubhouse under renovation. Will be back.

Course is great in great shape. Can tell money is being spent. Greens were in excellent shape . Fairways and tee boxes looking good. Not sure what can be done with sand traps. Imagine that’s gonna be a expensive repair.

Having read some of the reviews below, I ventured out to Smoke Rise with muted expectations. I was pleasantly surprised at everything they are doing. Yes, check in is in the cart barn because the clubhouse is still being redone after the water pipes burst last winter. And yes, there are port-a-potties. However, it was easy and fast. You can grab range balls, snacks, and cold drinks too. The range is well marked with flags at various distances and pallet style targets. The practice green and bunker area are virtually brand new.

As for the course itself, they have done a great job taking down trees, repairing carts paths, and resodding bare areas. The tee boxes are in decent condition and improving. The fairways were fairly lush and mowed and looked great. And the greens were the biggest surprise. I have played Woodmont and Bridgemill in the last month. The Smoke Rise greens are better. They are smooth and manicured with very few bare spots. They definitely are not a burnt out pool table. A few areas on the course are still recovering but the $47-57 price point is fair. I found Alex to be super friendly and honest about the course at check in. She was absolutely right. Martin the outside guy was very helpful and worth a good tip. Overall, it ain’t perfect, but the $1 mil plus they’ve had to spend is showing up with obvious improvements. Good for you, Smokey. I definitely recommend it and will be back often.

Went to the course with friends over the weekend, got a hot deal for a lower green fee, and still feel ripped off.

Tee boxes = moon's surface
Greens = burned out pool table
Fairways = war zone
Driving range = well, there is one, but best of luck warming up with no yardages posted, no chipping green, and no putting green at all. Whack whack, I guess.

Zero update ahead of time that the clubhouse was closed, had to check in in the cart barn. I figured seeing the same update from over a month ago, that this would have been remedied. I was wrong.

Staff was great, but that's the only plus.

Wildly stacked tee times, forcing play to be close to 5 1/2 hours, and when you made the turn, if you wanted something other than chips (come on, a hot dog at the turn is a must!) - you have to drive to another facility, and wait yet again for food to be prepped. Sure, a small annoyance, but this was far from the only problem.

Didn't see a single drinks cart come through.

If you can, avoid it. Pay the extra 20 to go to Heritage nearby for a better experience.
