Lake Arrowhead Yacht & Country Club - Highlands Course

About
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Highland Course at Lake Arrowhead weaves through rolling woodlands. Every hole offers unique scenery and stunning mountain views. The golf course was completely redesigned in 2008, which makes it one of Atlanta's younger courses; nevertheless it has quickly garnered a strong following amongst locals thanks to not only the challenging layout but also the affordable rates and beautiful setting. Lake Arrowhead's convenient location makes it even more appealing, it sits less than an hour north of Atlanta. The golf course features strategically placed bunkers and plenty of trees. It is a layout that requires careful course management. The 14th hole is arguably the most difficult. This tricky par 5 is known to test even the most skilled players.

Stunning and Challenging Course
The course is well cared for, stunning views and challenging fairways, but so much fun to play. It’s a great test of your fairway accuracy.
Spoiled rich kids ruined our outting
Great course. The local neighborhood boys made it a disaster for me and the wife. I don't recommend playing here if you don't want to be harassed and have teenagers hitting in to you on purpose. We were on pace to play in 4 hours and we were waiting for the group in front of us, the boys were rude and disrespectful.
Beyond Beautiful
Steve the Starter was a gem! Great advice on shots! The views were amazing, the approach shots were stunning. Overall challenging course for a beginner. But playable. If you hook or slice the ball, make sure to bring extra balls! As an intermediate golfer, it was tough, but enjoyable. A must play if you’re in Northern Georgia.
Bring your A game
Fun challenge. Most holes are placement shots. Greens are in great shape.
Another great day at Lake Arrowhead
Lake Arrowhead is a challenging but fun Golf Course. The surroundings and view are awesome. The greens and fairways are well kept. I strongly recommend this course if you are really into golf. I would not recommend for a beginner as many of the holes are long and over canyons.
I love playing here and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Great course
Awesome course and staff. There were a couple tee boxes that needed some love but overall the fairways and greens were in mint condition. Pretty difficult course and a lot of 2-3 tier greens. Have to be able to work some shots at this course. Excellent lunch at the clubhouse too. Will definitely play again
Fun course
Course is in pretty good shape. We enjoy playing this course when we get the opportunity.
Great Course
First time playing here. Overall it was a great experience. The course was in good shape overall. Some tee boxes were getting replaced.
Mountain Goat Golf
Overall the course was in great shape and luckily we dodged the storms because it is definitely a course you need a cart.
Friendly staff
The staff at Lake Arrowhead were very friendly during my round. The first tee can be a little confusing and the starter helped me find my way. The course was in great shape compared to my last time playing. The green were recently sanded so they were a little slower than what I’m used to but that’s all part of course management. The layout can be difficult for someone who hasn’t played the course much. A lot of fairways that end earlier than you think. But the approach shots were definitely manageable. Watch out for hole #5 it’s a doozy!
Horrible pace of play
This has been an ongoing problem with this beautiful golf course. We were a twosome and waited 10+ minutes per hole to play. There was never a marshal that came our to check on the play or players. I hope they fix this problem or they will lose business!!!!
Some good & bad
I have played this course a few times but it has always been winter conditions, or cart path only. I was looking foward to playing this weekend as the weather was perfect. $55 for a weekend rate is a great deal in the Atlanta area. I was disappointed to find out they they do not offer junior rates except for ages 15 & under. every other course we've played does 18 and under. Even if it's $10-$20 off, make it affordable for kids that may want to play.
Upon checkin, there was a sign that showed Green dots for conditions, Tee boxes, fairways, greens. I was looking forward to the round. None of this held up. There were quite a few tee boxes that had been over used leaving us standing in sandy areas or not much grass to tee up in. The Greens rolled decent, but my goodness at the pitch marks. This isn't entirely the courses fault as the people playing should fix their pitch marks, but it was really bad. Fairways were in good shape and the bunkers was a mix of good and bad. It appears that some of the water flows towards some bunkers and leaves some ravines going through the bunkers. The one bunker i played out of was in great shape.
We made the turn at 6:00 and were disappointed that the turn grill was closed. One of the staff members said "they shouldn't be closed, go to the other door". We went through the main entrance and into the grill. There was a gentleman sitting at the bar and an employee behind the bar and we were told they were closed. Couldn't even get water.
Overall, we enjoyed the day with family & friends but were very disappointed in the course. There are some great views and the deer were out in full force. I would venture to say we saw well over 50 throughout the day. Lake Arrowhead is out of the way compared to most courses and we drove close to an hour to play. Probably our last time making this trip.
Always fun
1 hr drive, but worth it. Course is in great shape, challenging with only 1 quirky hole. Pace of play issue was mostly due to the slow foursome in front of us. The ranger pushed them a bit.
