Hapuna Golf Course
About
Hapuna Golf Course stretches along the beautiful Kohala coastline before rising to over 700 feet above sea level. The snow-topped Mauna Kea volcano serves as a dramatic backdrop and there are seemingly endless views of the Pacific. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay collaborated to create a visually stunning links course that utilizes the natural contours of the landscape and silky fescue grasses. The design team has received praise for not only the challenge of the design but also for how seamlessly it blends into the existing environment. Palmer incorporated several risk-reward opportunities, especially with the par 5s, the14th is a good example. There are many ways to play this hole, which features a large ravine on the right and a wide, but shallow green. Long hitters can reach the green in two but short hitters prefer two shots and a par 3.

fun golf coarse
Dispite recent green airation we had a great time with my wife having her best round ever. Super friendly staff, great stuff in the pro shop. Would highly recommend playing this coarse.
Hapuna Prince Golf Course
We booked through Golf Now and scored a deal compared to booking with the resort where we were staying or directly with the course. Our T-time was at 12:30 and we had the course to ourselves. The course was in great condition just lot's of fun to play. My wife and I highly, highly recommend this course especially booking through Golf Now.
Nice Course
Hapuna was in very good condition and the pace of play was excellent. The course offers many spectacular views of the coast line and is very fun to play
a bit overpriced. but fun...
I feel a greens fee of $80 would be more appropriate for this course, instead of the $125 charged. Definitely prefer Big Island CC in comparison, especially at $89.
Hapuna Prince golf Course
Course was is good shape. Unfortunately they had just sanded the greens and if I had known that would have played a different course. Should have a Marshall out to keep speed of play up. Facilities are in need of a refresher. Maybe an update to the app would help to identify any changes to the course from the normal.
Good at right price
No bar or restaurant open. Just premade sandwiches. All facilities closed at 5pm. No 19th hole.
This course has great design
One of the nicest courses I've played, great views, course is in great shape, staff is friendly and the pace of play was under 4 hours
playingtime,couse layout
many elevation changes and somewhat narrow faiways on shorter par 4's adding to challenge. 4 hour round was a pleasant change to closer to 5 hour rounds at wiakaloa.
One of the Big Island's best
Hapuna combines all of the elements necessary for an excellent golfing experience. The course is fairly challenging with varied terrain, knee high rough, excellent greens and beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. The course condition is very good and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Pace of play was not bad at 4hours and 20 minutes. I would rate this course just below the Mauna Kea and Mauna Lani. At the significantly lower price available on GolfNow.com (especially around 1 PM) it is a much better value. I definitely will play again.
Enjoyed it from 6100 Yds
I decided to "Play it Up" from 6100 yds instead of 6500. Why not score better and enjoy it. I''ve got decent distance and am pretty straight off the tees, so par was within reach every hole (alas, I cannot chip and putt to make that happen often enough). Layout of the course was really interesting. Definitely not walkable. Very hilly and sometimes a hundreds of yards between tees. Greens were pretty fast and the grain was a factor. However, all the cups were ragged. like they hadn't been changed in several days. Pace of play was pretty bad. Group 4 holes a head of us had us all backed up. Cart girl called into the shop, on the 8th hole about that, but nothing seemed to resolved the problem. We were unable to finish the 18th, because the sun set (we teed off at 2:03) and slow play. I like varied layout of the holes and the general condition of the course. Lots of decorative natural grass off the fairway, so errant balls were easily lost. Great vistas of the ocean, but water was not a factor. I'd play it again, though not at the rack rage.
A challenging Arnold Palmer design
This is always a fun course to play and I enjoy the Arnold Palmer design. Lots of elevation change and great views of the Kohala coast. Disappointed that Arnies has closed, they had the best burgers on the island and great views.
Good Hawaii Golf Experience.
This course is fairly challenging. I found the fairways to be considerably tighter than most resort courses. However, if you play it smart and are willing to leave your driver in the bag on many holes, you can shoot a pretty decent rounds. You "must" hit the fairways here. Missing the fairways equates to a lost ball most of the time. Winds were down when we played. I can only imagine that adding wind into the equation makes play much more difficult.
hapuna golf course
Lots of elevation and plenty of beauty course is in excelent condition great value for the money
Good day
We always enjoy Hapuna. It was windy in the afternoon. AM is a better bet for calm winds.
Hapuna
Superb weather, Superb Course... challenging but fair. Have played Hapuna several times but this was the best experience..
Extremely slow round
Resort golf is overrated because the starters push so many people on the course that it took around 10 to 15 minutes wait on each shot. Admittedly, we were a twosome but still it should not take that long of a wait. The course condition is not as good as when we played it approx. 3 years ago.
Hapuna shines in the shadow of Mauna Kea
Hapuna clearly plays second-class citizen to Mauna Kea, its sister course rated in everybody's top 100.
But it's still a first-class golf experience.
Hapuna doesn't visit the ocean like Mauna Kea. You can't hear the crashing waves or smell the salt in the air. But you can see the ocean on the horizon, almost from every hole.
Hapuna sits high in the hills above the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. Some of its holes, like the scenic 12th hole heading straight toward the ocean, reminds me of golf in Los Cabos, Mexico, where the mountainous terrain of Cabo Real and Palmilla allow for excellent vistas of the Sea of Cortez.
Hapuna, while not in as good a shape as Mauna Kea, is very playable and fun with some nice elevation changes.
The long 18th hole might be the toughest finishing hole on the island. It stretches to 442 yards from the blue tees. Even a perfect drive sets up a difficult approach over a valley to an elevated green. It's the only time this beautiful golf course turns cranky.
Nice track, great views, nice shape!
I had only one day on the Kohala Coast, and pondered my choice of courses for a while before deciding on a twilight time at Hapuna. It seems to be affiliated with Mauna Kea, a world famous facility, so I figured "how bad can it be?"
As it turns out, not bad at all! I booked for $75 for the first twilight time at 1:09 pm. We were paired up with fellow Canadians, which was nice. With sunset at about 6pm, that gave about 5 hours and as it turned out, we needed just about all that time! Pace of play was about the only negative though - Hapuna is a really nice test of golf and an enjoyable, playable course. It is esthetically pleasing with fantastic views of the Pacific from most holes. It isn't overly long even from the tips, and for the most part is right there in front of you with very few tricks or blind shots (exception: #11 second shot and #15 tee shot). Condition of tees, fairways, and greens was excellent - the best of the five courses I played in Hawaii.
Range balls and bottled water were included, which was a nice touch. The locker room was reasonably well appointed and available for guests to use. Unfortunately we didn't have time to go to the bar to take advantage of their after-round special - one penny per stroke for your first beer!
The bag drop didn't really seem to work since there wasn't anyone there to take the bags or load them. There was a call button which I pressed but no one came. I ended up lugging my clubs through the clubhouse to the cart area myself, which I don't mind but some might. The drink cart came only once, on the 6th hole (before 3pm). The girl said she was quitting early because she started before 7am. The halfway house, which is pretty much the farthest point from the clubhouse, was also closed. I don't get that! With a packed course, shouldn't refreshments be available all day? They're missing out on way more revenue than they're saving on wages! But I digress.
I really enjoyed Hapuna and will definitely return next time I'm on the Big Island!
Great Value for the area
Sister Course to Mauna Kea across the highway. Very nice rolling hills course and at $69 a great value compared to the $125 courses surrounding it in the area.
