Pukalani Country Club has a unique location at the 1,100-foot elevation of the famous Mount Haleakala, an extinct volcano whose name means “House of the Rising Sun.” The dramatic elevation offers breathtaking views that span the West Maui Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. The golf course features wide, undulating fairways and fast, sloped greens. The gently rolling terrain can cause some tricky uneven lies. There are trees and well placed bunkers scattered throughout to provide further challenge. Pukalani Country Club has a unique feature on the par-3 third hole. The hole gives golfers the options of hitting to one of two very different greens, one which requires a tee shot over a tree-filled gully and another that requires a shot beyond a cliff to a pal tree-lined green.

Nice Course - lousy carts, paths,

This was our second playing at Pukalani in the same week. We returned because fairways and greens in really good shape, course difficulty adequate, and views and pleasant change in terrain/views was good.

The golf carts are on their last leg - gas powered which is OK, but sputtering and poor steering control. Cart paths were in horrendous shape as were bibs on/off cart path. Fairways/greens were only well maintained.

Rustic but lovely

Golf course itself is in great condition, with great views. Loved the layout. The “clubhouse” is sort of a prefab affair but it works. The food at the small restaurant was pretty good and the staff was friendly. The only thing that was bad was the driving range. Really rough. Nice rental clubs. The whole experience is kind of quirky in a way but it’s fun and cool unless you are stuck on snobby resort golf.
