Hawaii Country Club
About
Hawaii Country Club was one of the first golf courses in West Oahu. Unlike many of the island's courses that are relatively flat, this course is defined by its landscape of rolling hills and valleys. The dramatic elevations provide scenic views that stretch to Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor. Another defining characteristic of the golf course is the hundreds of natural Monkey Pod trees that are scattered throughout. The layout is not particularly long, placing an emphasis on accuracy and good course management over long distance driving. Be careful on the greens, they may not be fast but they are very undulating. If you misjudge the slopes, you could easily end up putting three or four times. Hawaii Country Club finishes with an uphill blind approach on a par 4 that is short but tough.

Fun times
Fun cheap course; needs work on greens and fairways but still a good time.
The only redeeming quality was the customers who we met.
Staff refused to let us on early even though it was raining, in the afternoon, and no one was on the course in front or waiting. Place was deserted and she could only cite policy as the reason why we should waste a half hour putting. Not very intelligent or hospitable!
Country Club is a Bit of a Stretch
This is a dying course in terms of maintenance and playability. The greens were 0/10, with some being as much as 40% dirt with sparse grass covering. The fairways were decent (maybe because they require little upkeep) but the bunkers, cart paths, signage, pro shop, and overall ambience was well below every municipal course I've ever played. The 'discounted' rate of $65.00 for an afternoon tee time was hardly a bargain, and I noted in the pro shop that 'international' visitors are charge $90.00 for the privilege of playing there. I would not recommend this course to visitors, locals, or even for GolfNow to support. It brings your reputation to a low level to have this course as a partner.
Miss this one on your next trip to Oahu!
The putting green, driving range and course are in terrible condition. Paid $55 for 18 holes and I wouldn't go back even if they paid me. One bright note was playing with locals that were very friendly.
Great Price But...
I don't normally write reviews, but I'll make an exception in this case. I've played here on many occasions and to be honest, I haven't been impressed by the maintenance of the course at all. It's a shame because the course design makes it a fun place to play with several drivable par 4's, if you're willing to take the risk. As I said, the big problem is the condition of this course. We played here on 3/18/13 and I was shocked! The fairways looked like rough and it took some time to find your ball even if you hit it right down the center. There are many spots that have bare ground mixed with weeds and if you're unfortunate enough to hit your ball into one of those bare lies, you may walk or drive right past your ball and never even see it.
Now, to be fair to the course, there was an indication that the greens had been aerated recently and we knew that when we booked our time. We were willing to accept that. Problem is, that several of the greens were in such bad shape that there were dirt patches in some areas and on the par 3-10th, there was a strip of mostly dirt running from the front right to nearly the back of the green that was about 3 feet wide. That's NOT aeration, that's neglect and either they need to hire a new greens keeper or spend a few more bucks on the maintenance side of things.
This course has such great potential to be successful in providing an awesome golfing experience for it's patrons, but for some reason, the owners/management seem to be oblivious to that fact and instead, choose to settle for mediocre at best!
To quote the Korean visitor who happened to be paired with us on this round, "What's wrong with this place?".
Don't spend your money here
Really not trying to be harsh, but....the absolutely worst course I have ever been on. Nothing wrong with the staff, but the course hadn't been mowed, they said they aerated the greens which all courses do, this was a lot closer to aerating dirt, no grass just dirt. Needs to better taken care of.
easy to get out
Course is a relative "cow pasture"
Worst greens, bunkers and cart paths on the island.
For the amount charged for green fee they could and should be making great improvements.
As is, they should only be charging $15-$20 for locals and twice that for visitors. They currently really take advantage of visitors for green fees.
Me and my friends play here only because it's easy to walk on and most rounds can be completed in about 3.5 hrs, depending on how busy it is. We can usually "jump" holes if the course is crowded with inexperienced or slow players/groups.
lots of bare spots and hard red clay
if you want to have fun and save money and play with the locals, then this is the course for you. we enjoyed it.
Nice views
This was my first time on this course. Friendly staff, teed off early, under 3 hour round with no waiting. Unfortunately the cart paths are in very poor shape, as well as the greens and some fairways. Luckily it was a great rate on Golf Now. This course has so much potential to be a very beautiful course with needed renovations.
Not what it seems!
The course sounded nice on the internet, when we got there you couldn't tell the difference between rough and fairway. The greens for mix of dirt and grass aweful. The fairways were weeds and dirt my grass is better in my back yard and i'm being nice. Just not worth the $85 i was charged would have paid $10. Not very happy with this misleading course.
Course past its prime
I've played here a few times. The course must have been something back in the day.
You have to play this course at the right time of the year. This course is lined with monkey pod trees. If you play this during the fall, there is monkey pod seeds and sticks all over this course. I'm not sure if "Monkey pod" is a Hawaii thing, but if you play here, you will know what it is after.
This course is what feels like the desert. It's really hot and the course takes a beating because of it. The ground is hard, you probably need to use wooden tees versus the plastic zero-friction kind.
Overall this course is short and fun to play with a few drinks in the cart... The staff is really good here and when I say staff, I mean the one starter. There is no one else with you on the course. No marshals, no snack cart, nothing.
I would recommend playing here if you are short on money and want to play a course that is always open.
It is what it is
If you can get a really good price and don't mind budget quality course conditions (especially the greens) then play and enjoy this course. It is never crowded and everyone playing and on the staff has a good attitude. The food is very good, bar has reasonable prices and views are great.
Worst condition I have ever seen
Mostly hit off dirt. What grass remains is full of weeds. No improvements since it was built in the 50's. shockingly bad.
Not worth the trip
Very disappointing...fairways had more weds and dirt than grass. Very difficult to find the tee boxes and greens. Cart paths were full of pot holes and missing blacktop. All the greens sloped away from the hole and the tee boxes were all uneven - hard to find a level spot to tee off. I would not return.
slopes were the challenging
Slopes were challenging but the out of bounds lines were wide enough for good play
Fairways and greens need a lot of work
Great restaurant, nice golf carts. Seems to be an older golf course that has not been maintained as required to keep the place competitive with other courses in the area.
The lay out is confusing and tee boxes are not well marked or identified, easy to get on the wrong tee box or even skip a hole.
The course has some challenging holes and if properly maintained could be a great place to play. Greens need a lot of attention as do the fairways.
Weekend last resort
It's pretty bad. Just a run down golf course. Couple holes you have no idea where you're heading if you've never played there before. Course looks like it only gets rain water and is in pretty poor condition. Highly doubtful i'll ever play there again. If you absolutely have to play on a weekend and you can't find a single other course then...go driving range instead
