Hawaii Country Club
About
Hawaii Country Club was one of the first golf courses in West Oahu. Unlike many of the island's courses that are relatively flat, this course is defined by its landscape of rolling hills and valleys. The dramatic elevations provide scenic views that stretch to Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor. Another defining characteristic of the golf course is the hundreds of natural Monkey Pod trees that are scattered throughout. The layout is not particularly long, placing an emphasis on accuracy and good course management over long distance driving. Be careful on the greens, they may not be fast but they are very undulating. If you misjudge the slopes, you could easily end up putting three or four times. Hawaii Country Club finishes with an uphill blind approach on a par 4 that is short but tough.

Tranquil setting
Very nice setting. Spectacular views from clubhouse and restaurant. Good course to sharpen your game.
Worst ever!
No refunds after you tee off.....for good reason!! this is the worst course I have ever played on. The putting surface had weeds with branches on them growing across. The fairways were is sad shape...mostly weeds.
Showing it's age...Good for a discounted round
I was told that this is one of the oldest courses on Oahu. Unfortunately, it's showing its age. The facilities are pretty old and tired. The location, away from the resort areas, means it attracts mostly locals at lower prices. That formula usually won't allow a course to make many improvements. Cart paths are very rough and some of the greens were pretty bad.
The shortish course is nicely laid out with a number of elevation changes. Most par 5s are reachable in two for longer hitters. There are a couple of short par 4s that will make you want to "go for it".
Bottom line...with the "Hot Deal" I got on GolfNow, it was worth it. I would have been disappointed if I had paid the normal rate.
Golfnow warning
The other reviews on the course sum up the course conditions. However with few patrons the pace of play makes for a very fast and inexpensive round. The one point that soured this experience was being told that although we arrived 40 minutes early that golfnow players cannot tee off earlier. So we waited neat the first tee box watching no one tee off for 40 minutes. What made matters worse was that another pair waiting next to us who were visitors to the islands waited for the same reason. There was no aloha for there visitors.
Do not play here!
The conditions of this course were the worst I've ever played on.
As expected
I had heard this was a very casual, sparsely maintained course, so I pretty-much knew what to expect. It's not irrigated, so the grass is very dry, and the ball rolls a long way. When in doubt, club down for the added distance.
There are some blind shots, and trees in the fairway, but not many traps, and I recall only one water hazard. It wasn't busy, so I didn't have to worry about hitting up on anyone after a foursome let me play through. A few times I had trouble telling where my target was, and thank goodness there are lots of signs to point the way to the next hole as the layout winds around a lot.
Most of the greens are in pretty good shape, but be prepared to be hitting off a lot of hardpan in the fairway.
The staff is very friendly, as were the other folks I encountered, and the price is probably the lowest of any course on Oahu.
It's a really laid-back atmosphere. I may go back sometime when I just want a quick round to work on ball-striking. Also, some pretty views toward Diamond Head when you get on top of a few hills.
Great OleCourse
This is a hidden jewel of a course. Many remember this course from the past and I have to admit its old but HCC still has its charm and some very challenging holes to keep you interested. They have been spending all the efforts on cleaning up the fairways. The cart paths and greens need more attention but looks like that will come later. The restaurant has some pretty decent food and always friendly staff and the views are incredible up there.
What happened to the greens?
Played 18 holes. For the most part the course is very dry in the fairways, but still get decent 2nd shots in to the green. The greens are a different story. Majority of the greens have weeds. Green cut is fringe cut at best. All puts will bump their way to the hole. No smooth puts at all. C'mon Man, give those greens a little love.
Average golf course
This course has potential to be very nice, however, the condition was subpar. The greens weren't kept very well, and the pro shop had only one employee who was very unhelpful.
dry and hard
course has some good par threes, par fours are short and wide open fairways. not a fancy course but better than not golfing. will play again.
Cheap Fees = Cheap Greens
This course has chewed up greens, grass growing in the sand traps, tore up cart paths, a confusing course layout, and a huge gnat problem!
Another day in paradise...
The course needs help. The views are awesome, the weather was beautiful and another beautiful day in paradise. Got to play with my son and co-worker. We enjoyed ourselves but the course needs a little loving care.
Hawaii Country Club
Do not recommend paying regular price to play here, regardless if resident or non resident. Will only play if green fees purchased thru GolfNow.com. Old, beat up course but crew does a good job keeping in good shape. Cashier in club house checking us in was not customer friendly but could be, hope, an isolated case.
The name is bigger than the quality.
I picked this because from the name, I thought it should represent Hawaii golf courses. However, the staff is not friendly and the course condition is poor everywhere. The shop is closed after finished 18-hole and the cart return area is far from the parking.
Course has character
Great views and some fun holes. Rough around the edges. Great course to tune up your game. Not that busy in the afternoon.
Unique course
If you're playing this course for the first time, ask the staff for directions to the second tee box. You could easily mistake the ninth hole lady's tee box for the second. Pay attention to the direction signs to all holes. Although the fairways and greens aren't as good as most courses, I love this course. The elevation change, the doglegs, and the short par 4's makes this course unique.
awesome views
I have been playing at this course for maybe 30 years it is in excellent shape one of my favorite courses to play
Good value at 20.00. Interesting layout but not kept up well
Greens seem to be inconsistent with one another in terms of grasses. Very difficult to figure out. Short course but when you got to the greens very unkept. I would play again and might understand greens better. Easy to find and get to from Waikiki.
Classic style course but still very playable
Pros:
I went on a work day (Friday) so the pace of play was fast. There are trees so you must place your shots. You must be able to calculate the ball roll when approaching the greens. The course is old but still very playable and challenging.
Cons:
Some greens need work. If they get those weeds out, they will be fine.
Fun for the price
Greens needs improvement !!
Needs a lot of improvement!!
