Hawaii Country Club
About
Hawaii Country Club was one of the first golf courses in West Oahu. Unlike many of the island's courses that are relatively flat, this course is defined by its landscape of rolling hills and valleys. The dramatic elevations provide scenic views that stretch to Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor. Another defining characteristic of the golf course is the hundreds of natural Monkey Pod trees that are scattered throughout. The layout is not particularly long, placing an emphasis on accuracy and good course management over long distance driving. Be careful on the greens, they may not be fast but they are very undulating. If you misjudge the slopes, you could easily end up putting three or four times. Hawaii Country Club finishes with an uphill blind approach on a par 4 that is short but tough.

Pretty good day today...best score so far going back after a 10 year break and about a month of play. 111,18 holes.
Battlefield
Beginner golfers, greens are full of weeds Locals play here because it is cheap. Short course, 5 wood is all that is needed for driving. Enjoyed the local golfers company
Nice and Quiet environment with great scenic view
I like this course since I moved from CA.
Yes, this course need to be improved for condition of green, cart road, and direction sign. According to staffs, they have new manager and will start doing improvement soon.
Best of this course is exceptionally nice staffs and maintenance crews - special thanks to Mary and Irene.
Course has quite challenging layout and nice view.
Friendly Staffs make me laugh all the time.
Wouldn't come back
Greens are the worst I've ever come across. Fairway conditions are pretty spotty as well. Course signage and hole directions are poor to non-existent. Staff was courteous and friendly as we're the local players I spoke with. Just too overly priced for an international guest. With a little care and attention this could be a gem.
Don't waste your time
I got a great deal on golf now.com for this course. I thought how bad could it be. When we pulled up we knew we were in for a rough one. The so called driving range was a few ripped up mats. The greens were awful. I've never seen greens in that bad of shape. The fairways were non existent and nothing more than rough grass. It was difficult to navigate the course. There was a lack of direction from one hole to the next. Save your money and hit the range instead. You will get more out of it.
Not for visitors with limited time
Golf course is not well maintained. First tee's green is basically dirt and was an indicator for the rest of the day. Greens are terrible. Some fairway grass was so tall, you couldn't find your ball even if you hit a good shot. Hard to tell where the next tee was because of few signs. We had to ask a friendly staff guy hacking weeds which fairway to go for on the second hole. Not a good golfing experience.
Hawaii Country Club
good course to play for someone who hasn't played in awhile. It does need better directions for next hole.
hawaii cc condition of course
We played on a overcast intermittent rainy day. There were very few golfers out today, which was good. We were able to play 2 balls because no one was waiting behind us. The fairways are wide and forgiving. The greens were in poor condition. The ball would bounce on the different kinds of grass at different grass lengths. The course was scenic , and the price was appropriate.
Best Course for LOCALS only, Bad for Visitors
I solo here at least once a week. There has yet to be anyone there to pair me up with.
Its in rough shape all around, no doubt about it.
Its a good course for beginners and/or casuals like me.
Lowest price golf on Oahu for residents, hands down. Bayview is technically cheaper, but its a Par 59. If I had to pay more, I would play elsewhere.
This course is never crowded and pace of play is quick.
I recommend HCC only for locals who want to golf without paying an arm and leg.
Visitors can skip this course, with no regrets. I do not recommend this course for them.
Save your money
This course needs an infusion of money to improve the condition of the course. The layout is fine and actually quite challenging and scenic, however the overall condition of the grounds detracts from the enjoyment of the game. Grass is sparse, sand and cart paths not maintained and greens are absolutely terrible.
Course condition
Would not recommend this course to any golfer. The condition of the course is terrible. Greens are the worse I have played on in Hawaii ever.
Dog track
Very neglected poor layout could be a fun little course with a lot of tender loving care. Long crab grass on the never mowed greens. More weeds than sand in the bunkers.
Are you kidding me ?
Played Oct 2012 On vacation and booked at $85.00 which sounded reasonable for Hawaii.Big mistake....Club house from the 50's. Rates in pro shop $ 25.00 for locals. We chuckled when we rode the cart 40 feet to driving range which was mostly dirt because the first hole was parallel to the range and looked the same. Second green blocked by a huge tree right in front of the green. Fairways & greens all in bad shape. The photo is from the 18th tee box. Make it to the top of the hill or your shot rolls all the way back. What the heck...we were on vacation and enjoyed a few cold ones.
For an old course it has an interesting layout
For a golf course in Hawaii it's in pretty bad shape and really needs someone to invest some time and money to bring it up to date. This is a $40.00 per round course at best since I don't see them putting any of their current profits back into the course.
An enjoyable muni!
While in the condition of many older muni courses, Hawaii Country Club presented many interesting and challenging holes. It was a great value with the Monday on-line special. An imagination in shot-making is very helpful appraching most greens. The greens are very puttableand can be subtlely tricky. They do need to fix the 16th green which seems to just be growing in for reasons that are not clear, however. We would certainly play there again.
Interesting course in need of a lot of TLC
This course has a lot of quirks not normally found. This includes teeing off over the driving range on one par 3, raising a flag to indicate to the following group that you are putting, and ringing a bell to tell the following group it's safe to hit on a par 4. Generally the course is in really rough shape. The course was probably really nice when it first opened. But, lack of maintenance is quite obvious from the clubhouse to the greens.
great course for beginners
This course is a great course to get started in golf or practicing.
Inexpensive
The course is in pretty bad condition but it was inexpensive since the club rental was free on Monday with internet booking.
The price is right
If you can get a 50% off discount the price is right also if you hit your driver solidly most of the par 4s are a wedge away from the green there are nicer courses on the island but the price is right
Not the Greatest
Was expecting a much better experience for the cost to play 18 holes. The terrain was not attended to, nor did it look like it had ever been all season. Fairways and greens were rough. Wouldn't play there again.
