Hawaii Country Club

About
Hawaii Country Club was one of the first golf courses in West Oahu. Unlike many of the island's courses that are relatively flat, this course is defined by its landscape of rolling hills and valleys. The dramatic elevations provide scenic views that stretch to Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor. Another defining characteristic of the golf course is the hundreds of natural Monkey Pod trees that are scattered throughout. The layout is not particularly long, placing an emphasis on accuracy and good course management over long distance driving. Be careful on the greens, they may not be fast but they are very undulating. If you misjudge the slopes, you could easily end up putting three or four times. Hawaii Country Club finishes with an uphill blind approach on a par 4 that is short but tough.

greens worst ever
overall couse ok.... however 17/18 greens were terrible. (worst I've ever played on) we had a special offer $23.00 would not play at regular price.
Don't waste your time
Worst course I've played anywhere! Golfnow should not advertise for them. The greens were very bad. We lost balls in the thick vegetation in the MIDDLE of the fairway. Cart paths need 4wheel drive. Honestly, find an open field and you'll be better off! Not a bargain at ANY price.
Course is poor at best
Course is in poor condition the greens are as much dirt as grass hard as a brick no watering the same is true for the bunkers. No food available, no beer available, rental clubs are absolutely garbage ( Walmart Speicals ) Overall I would rate this course as a 2 on a scale of one to ten and that is only because I have never seen what would be a one.............this would be as close to one as you could get so pay the extra money and play a real golf course
Great elevation changes
Oahu has courses that are in great condition but are mostly flat. This course is in the foothills and offers a change in elevations that are challenging and fun to play. Dole pineapple use to own it and since they do not own it any more it has not had the financial help it needs. The greens are so so but you can putt on them. I will and have played it again. Aloha
Old school course
I got a great golfnow deal, so I was happy to get out, only interacted with two staff, women at pro shop was friendly and accommodating, and a course maintanence was cool, fairways were cut and in most cases your ball landed on some sort of grass, greens were in bad shape, should be better direction to next tee ( I got mixed up twice) great for parents and kids- not busy, pay less than $40 and be happy to be golfing.
Not Worth the Money
Course has lots of potential--each hole presents some interesting obstacles and requires some thoughtful play. Course can also be quite forgiving on mishits.
That being said:
Most of this course is in utter disarray. The tee boxes are far from level or taken care of. It's highly likely you will break a few tees trying to tee up the ball (this is not because of your swing, but because that's how hard the ground on the tee boxes is). You're lucky if you can land in a fairway with some grass. You're more likely to land on a hard packed dirt patch, up against some weeds. No matter where you land you will be hitting off of hard ground. Don't think you can take solace in the sand, as the sand is hard packed or non-existant as well. You might as well be hitting off the cart path.
Maybe if it only cost $10 to play here it would be worth it. However, the rate they are charging people to play is ridiculous. I can't believe what they are charging people from out of state or international guests to play. Even at the local rate of $35 this is a huge ripoff.
Also, they have recently closed their restaurant, which means there are no snacks, drinks, etc on the course. You can buy some soda or gatorade from the vending machine in the "pro shop" but good luck if you are making the turn after it closes.
Like I said earlier the course has great potential, but fails to meet any of it. If they could actually take care of and up keep the course, it would be a great course to play, with some intricate holes, and great views. Until this course gets some actual maintenance go to a muni course--your money will be better spent there and you'll have a much better golf experience.
Course upkeep
The course was challenging but only 6 of the 18 greens were even able to be putted due to so much damage on the greens. T-boxes were not even cut and we had to clear the weeds to hit our balls. The course has so much potential with a little help, but until then I will go elsewhere.
Short course in need of TLC
Short course with terrible greens. Most greens have weeds that affect the roll of your putts. Inexpensive course that is good to practice your ball striking.
Worst course conditions ever!
As a golfer who plays mostly on Munis I am accustomed to playing on some rough courses, this was by far the worst. Fairways for the most part just dead, greens in terrible shape, bunkers filled with dead grass. Very sad, course is a nice short layout, could have been a lot of fun, instead just a joke. Also no snack bar.
have fun..oneday
just enjoy shot.. whatever.. but this course need lots water..mean to dried
New Worst!
After 45 + years golfing I have a new worst ever golf course. Great people but the course is dead crab grass. The cart paths are dangerous because of ill repair. Should have given out 4 wheel drive with roll cage. Very sorry for the report because these are nice folks but there are no ratings low enough on your survey.
Unfriendly staff
Staff nasty
No restaurant
Greens same as tee box weedy
Views and fairways fine
The layout is pretty good
The staff are extremely helpful. I lost my wallet on the golf course and one of the workers found it and returned it to me intact.
Wind and Rain
I could not play because the course was closed dew to hi winds that knocked down power lines that blocked the roads leading to the course.
Poor course
Condition of the course was very bad.
Green is full of weeds, and soil was out. Saw two parties of groups that had been playing in five people.
Too slow.
You get what you pay for
If your ok with playing over, around, and throw debris then this is the course for you.
Bang for your buck!
This is a good course to hone your skills and evokes friendly competition. Despite there was a really slow group in front of us we finished our 18 holes with minutes to spare. The staff was courteous enough to allow us to take our clubs to the car even though it was a few minutes past the cutoff time!
Value for money
it is very good to play at the course, since it has characters in each hole.
Fun little course
Well I read all the reviews and expected the worst and was happy to find it a fun and overall easier course than the average. The staff was super super nice and even made me fresh coffee. The course was is ok shape but it was really really fun To have an empty place to play. I know this is like the kindergarten course compared to the other courses on Oahu but for a fun game away from people it's great.
