Hawaii Country Club

About
Hawaii Country Club was one of the first golf courses in West Oahu. Unlike many of the island's courses that are relatively flat, this course is defined by its landscape of rolling hills and valleys. The dramatic elevations provide scenic views that stretch to Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor. Another defining characteristic of the golf course is the hundreds of natural Monkey Pod trees that are scattered throughout. The layout is not particularly long, placing an emphasis on accuracy and good course management over long distance driving. Be careful on the greens, they may not be fast but they are very undulating. If you misjudge the slopes, you could easily end up putting three or four times. Hawaii Country Club finishes with an uphill blind approach on a par 4 that is short but tough.

Fair for the price
I took a buddy who is just learning to play golf.
The course was not crowded and we were able to take our time. Maybe not the course for low handicappers.
Hawaii Country Club
i didn't bring clubs, and hadn't really planned on golfing, this (family) trip. But, when the kids wanted to go the wet & wild water park, I found myself searching for options close by. I found a 28.00, 18 hole with cart, at Hawaii Country Club. It was about 15 minutes away, and I just couldn't pass. Arriving at the club house, I found a super helpful friendly check in fella. Clubs & balls 30.00. He even gave me a nice course map. Waiting at #1, (wife was 10.00 on ride along). I was going to let a young guy golf through. After some friendly chat, we decided to golf together, him being a local, and playing it all the time, he had great recommendations, and what to expect at each hole. The first thing you should know are the greens aren't great. Not the lush greens you find at the $$$$ courses. But, the course plays nice, and if your a little rusty, and want to swing, I recommend it. We could stop and talk, without the usual pressure from behind. We caught up to a 4-some, that waited to let us through. My only regret, was that the kids called, and I had to bail out after 9. Our friendly guide said that the back 9 had really nice ocean views, and was bummed we had to bail. If you want to have fun with family or the buddies, I highly recommend a round.
Fun Course
In recent months this course has been in better than usual condition - especially the greens. However this day the greens were bumpy and very inconsistent. Otherwise the course was in decent shape.
What I like most about playing here is that it's never crowded on Mondays - the day I typically play. The views are nice to great. The weather is usually good and I can usually get in 18 holes in 2 hours and 40 minutes.
There is definitely an improvement on the fairways and areas around the greens
Worst Golf Course in Oahu
This is a horrible golf course. It was not taken care of and the carts were even worse than the course. How did you have a sand trap in your green? I will never again in my life play this course and for all purposes it should be closed down.
Terrible
The fairways have patches of no grass and the greens are in poor condition except for holes 17 and 18. Basically, there is no point to keep score here.
However, this course was not crowded and was able to play like it was a private course. The pace of play was very enjoyable.
If some money was put into this course it could become one of the better courses on the island.
Excellent value
If you are looking for a stripped down round of golf with little amenities (no beer license, nor any hot food that we could see), this is a great course for the casual golfer, especially given the value. There were some good views to be had from the course and I really liked the layout.
Great Views
Take something to cover the seat. Cart seats have duct tape on them. Tape is peeling up. I ruined my shorts from the glue on the tape. Cover the seat.
Un-known gem
I picked this course because it was cheap. And upon pulling up I knew why it was cheap. But once you get past the duct tape on the seats of the cart, you will find a well groomed and manicured track. A shorter course at 5600 yards from the whites. But none the less, fun and very enjoyable. Pace was play was great. I played 18 in 3.5 hrs. Easy to score on. If you are looking for pristine off course amenities, and a long super challenging course, this is not it. If you are looking for a fun, fast and very affordable Hawaii golf experience, this may be for you.
Ps. They do not have a liquor license so bring your own beer.
Nice option for the money
We just concluded a 6 week stay on Oahu and played several rounds of golf at numerous courses including this one. While we played many much nicer courses than this one, for the money (low cost) this was probably the best value. I used the hot deal option on GolfNow and always got a great price. The main thing here is pace of play - we played in the afternoons and normally finished in 3 hours (2 players). Considering the 5 hour rounds on other courses that is a real plus for me.
Hawaii country club
Very enjoyable little golf course Tucktaway in the valleyn The holes or shaped to the natural landscape Therefor the beauty is very natural. Great view of eat side mountains as well as Pearl Harbor and Diamondhead. Very decent course with good pricing and great views!
Fair course the money
Had bad experience this time because of very slow play. They let a five some play, and two of them does not even have their own set of clubs. On top of that, they are not even playing golf just monkeying around the course. Very irritating.
Country club, really?
I have never played a course that had such a unique design. I would have been a great day if the cousre was in better shape. I am not sure if Hawaii is in a drougt, but the fairways were dry and there where alot of patches of dirt and gravel. Bunkers were compacted hard sand. The greens were slow as molases and needed mowing. They should also remove all the crabgrass on the greens.
The carts were old with duct tape coving tears in the seat. The cart paths could used repairs. Certain parts of the golf course there was a bumpy dirt path.
I paid $12 with a cart, which is very inexpensive for a round of golf. Would i play here again?, with course conditions like it was today, i would pay $12 and work on course managment and 150 and in. Its not a course that i would post a score for my handicap.
Greens are rough, price was great.
Had not played there in a few years. Because of the rain the fairways were a little better. The greens were not good. Course was empty which was wonderful to me. Christmas day was maybe the reason.
Great course just to have fun
This is definitely not PGA quality especially the greens and too challenging for a 1st timers but price considered you can still have a lot of fun I enjoyed myself.
Great Place to work on your game
Well it aint Pebble Beach, but if you are a beginner or you need a place to work on your game...this is the place. It's never crowded so you can usually get on and its a fun little course to practice at. I agree that the greens are in poor shape, but when I play with my friends we just say two putt max or gimmies if you're close to the hole.
If you can play well on these course conditions, then you'll be killing it when you play at a nice course. I learned how to golf at this course 15 years ago and now I go back to work on my game. I love the scenic views of the mountains and the serenity of the course.
