Hawaii Country Club

About
Hawaii Country Club was one of the first golf courses in West Oahu. Unlike many of the island's courses that are relatively flat, this course is defined by its landscape of rolling hills and valleys. The dramatic elevations provide scenic views that stretch to Diamond Head and Pearl Harbor. Another defining characteristic of the golf course is the hundreds of natural Monkey Pod trees that are scattered throughout. The layout is not particularly long, placing an emphasis on accuracy and good course management over long distance driving. Be careful on the greens, they may not be fast but they are very undulating. If you misjudge the slopes, you could easily end up putting three or four times. Hawaii Country Club finishes with an uphill blind approach on a par 4 that is short but tough.

Golf in Hawaii wow!
They have good golf club for rent @ $20
So you can play golf in Hawaii and $10 for non
Golfer riding with you, dust everywhere
But fun
Ho hum
Course is in terrible beat up non maintained condition. Greens are a joke. Crab grass rules
Some confused holes crossing each other .
Looks like the next step for management is to close down operations. Played in 2 hrs , no one around .
Lots of Hills
Very friendly golf course to play. Some par four holes are short distance and it makes you Grip It & Rip It.
Needs some work
Course is no in good shape. Could be a good course if money were put into maintenance.
Fun Design, Poor Maintenance
I ended up paying $16 after Golfnow fees for 18 holes and a cart. I was playing solo as I was the only golfer in my vacation group. I finished in about 2:30 hours as there was only 4 other groups on the course.
There were a lot of fun holes, with great design. Unfortunately the greens were probably the worst I have ever seen. They were 3 different types of grass and weeds, extremely bumpy. I never had to play out of the sand so I can't comment there. The tee boxes were a bit over grown. I played on a cloudy day but I imagine the views of the surrounding mountains would be great. The clouds did break for a little bit and there were great views of downtown.
I didn't expect much for the price. I had more fun here than playing West Loch Municipal course for $75 a few days before. They have a decent bar next to the clubhouse with good prices on beer as well.
If you can't afford the $150 courses for non-residents, I would recommend this course. Its cheap and fun, just don't take the putting so seriously.
Enjoyed.
Corse layout is fun to play.
Green condition is not good at several holes.
Staff are friendly and supportive.
Good value to enjoy golf.
Felt like being back in Africs
I have spent more than twenty years on the sub-Saharan continent and have played golf in about 43 countries. This course reminded me of some of those layouts. Fairways dry and some tough lies were found, but still got to exercise all aspects of the game with some interesting results. Greens reminded me of our course back in Burundi. Hit it firm and pray it would hold a line and maybe fall in from any distance. Still it was enjoyable and the lady in the pro shop was super nice.
Monstrosity
I live on the island and get the Resident rate, but still try and find the cheapest possible prices. This course was charging $35 for a Sunday afternoon, which isn't bad, but then you see the course. Considering The Royal Hawaiian Country Club is only $5 more for the same day, this course should be paying you to play there. We arrived early to hit some at the range, but we're told the range was closed and that we should just go ahead and begin our round, 45 minutes ahead of our scheduled tee time. The Tee Box is so hard you can't press the tee in without breaking it. First green had weeds taller than the flag pole, surrounded by former sand traps, now occupied by the same weeds that liter the green. The holes have grass over hanging them, from not having been moved in months. The flag poles them selves are to big for the hole that keeps them upright, leaving most of the flags tilting at 45 degree angles. One even fell over while hitting from the tee box. The second hole is confusing, I spent 10 minutes trying to figure out where the green was, we eventually asked the guys that were teeing off next to us. There are random trees in the middle of the fairway just before the green, blocking it entirely. It is almost like they tried to increase the difficulty of the course by making it resemble a putt putt course, laden with random obstacles you had to strategically bounce off of or through in order to get to the green. The cart path is a maze of bumpy pavement that criss crosses from one hole to the next with hidden signs and faded paint directing you to the next hole. The 18th hole is a straight up par 4 with no fairway, if you don't reach the green off the tee box, your ball will roll all the way back down. I would not recommend this course to anyone...ever! You are better off paying a little more, and playing somewhere nice.
Wouldn't recommend or play again
I am on vacation and was looking for a place to enjoy a round under $100 here on Oahu...bottom line is I should have just paid more. The course is in pretty bad shape. I'm used to brown fairways being from California and having courses dealing with drought conditions but this was something different all together. Aside from that the greens are by far the worst I've ever seen. There were weeds that were 5 inches tall on multiple greens, dead patches that were more than a square foot large on many greens in multiple places and what grass there was on the greens hadn't been mowed in what seemed like days.
I feel like it's important to mention that this course probably doesn't rely on visitor rounds to make its revenue. It seems like most of the play comes from locals who don't want to drive to one of the courses further away or don't want to spend the far greater prices of anything else in the area. I would imagine their resident rate is much less which would change the perception of what you get for what you pay.
In the end for $60 the course was simply not remotely close to worth it. Even for a casual round of vacation golf, given the distance from everything, the very poor conditions and lack of care in general to the course and facilities I wouldn't recommend it or ever play it again.
course in need of maintenance
I haven't played this course in over 5 years. I have never seen it in this bad of condition. The greens are the worst I've seen anywhere. The tee boxes are so hard you might want to take along a small hammer to insert the tees with. The fairways get no water at all. The lies are extremely tight. The ground is very hard including the sand traps. Its like grounds keepers must be volunteers or maybe there are no grounds keepers. The most that should be paid to play here is 15 to 20 dollars no more than that. Thats why the course is never crowded. Its a real shame to see it this way.
Total Dog Track
This course is a complete dog track. One of the absolute worst maintained courses I've ever played. The greens are absolutely horrendous, and the rest of the course isn't much better. I knew going in it wasn't going to be a great course, but this was far below what I was expecting. The only redeeming thing about it was that we got our tee time on hawaiigolf.com for $16, otherwise I would have been pretty upset given that the normal price is $45 for this cow patty of a course.
Hawaii Country Club
I personally like this course a lot. I have played it about 6 times now. The layout is different than many other courses on this island, and can equate to some really good scores. Only major issue are the greens conditions. Out of 18 holes there are only 3 that are in decent shape. But the view is great, the clubhouse is very good and again, the layout is one of my favorites. I can do this course in 2.5 hours riding. Its worth a try, if you don't mind some greens that are still in need of work, the rest of the course definitely makes up for it!
Regret
This was the worst golf club I have ever been..
Even regret had chosen it...this would be the last one that I want to play again.
Worse golf course ever.
I don't know where to start... We arrived 45 minutes before our tee time and the woman would not let us start before our time, but no one played before us, we just waited for no reason.
You can't call this a golf course, greens are just horrible, weeds, long grass....I even had a mini sand trap on the green. Cart paths are in bad condition. Hard to find the next hole, the signs are 100 years old.
They have full grown trees right in front of the green on some holes (20 yards from the green) never seen that. Sand traps are made of concrete. Fairways are hard... I was able to drive 400 yards...
You need a hammer or a drill for your tee because the ground is so hard. You are better off playing golf in a park or in the street....same condition.
Those people have no clue what they are going.
Get what you pay for.
Great track for a golf course; great vistas. It was probably great years ago. But for the greens fee, you can't get your expectations too high on quality. Very fair in that regard.
Built in 56, look's like it !I was looking for cheap golf & got it !
I was looking for cheap golf & got it ! Terrible green's! I lost 3 ball's in the fairway, ...had a great time! Charlie is the best this course has to offer!
Literally the worst course I've ever played!
Fairways are so overgrown you can't find your ball. grass that has been cut is left in piles on fairways. greens are weed infested, so impossible to get a smooth putt. Literally the worst course I've ever played--quit after 9 even though I paid for 18!
Played golf in Hawaii. That alone is awesome!
Rolling terrain Nestled up to the foothills. Overlapping tee to fairway #9 to #1 wasn't sure where to hit the ball off #1 tee or #9, Not the best layout. This course could be nicer with some needed attention. Some greens and fairways are very nice others horrible. Overall, Course conditions aren't great. Weedy greens that make the ball bounce all over the place, so it's impossible to make an accurate putt . Not sure what to say about the fairways, but playable. At home, I would call it a cow pasture. HOWEVER, Beautiful Mimosa trees with canopies that are absolutely amazing. IF YOU CAN GET PAST THE COURSE CONDITIONS, IT IS BEAUTIFUL. But then again, it's Hawaii.
I am a very good golfer. I rented their clubs (Ram Golden Bear) Driver had damaged head but still played okay. I asked for other clubs that I thought looked better and were told they were for the Japanese. No other explanation. $20 Club Rental was cheaper than other high priced courses At $50. Lady ran out to first hole to charge for girlfriend riding along taking photos and didn't credit anything back when she only rode half way due to rain. Girls in bar were friendly and prices good for Happy Hour. I've played worse courses but never played golf in Hawaii before. I had a great time because, I got to play golf in Hawaii, cheap. Woot.

I am thankful GolfNow had the deal. Would not have wanted to pay full price.

The cart paths are terrible. Made of asphalt. Also wanted to share that I drove #18 green 10' inline with the hole and almost drove #6. I play from as far back on the tees you can. Even if they have the tee markers moved up which I dislike when courses do that. I would much more play a hilly course than a flat one, which I thought most others were.
