Beautiful Affordable Course

We planned to play at Pukalani, but the course closed early (5:30) so we decided to play at Waiehu Municipal. The course didn’t look like much from the club house , but it was actually a beautiful course. Many holes had beautiful views of the ocean, Mt. Haleakala, Hana Highway coastline, and the mountain to west of Wailuku. Tee box on hole #5 had a gorgeous view ocean, coastline, mountains, and Kuhului. Holes #6-8 traveled along the ocean shore (just don’t let your balls go into the ocean or hit beach goers). The back-9 holes are above the club house and offered even better views. The greens were great. At first, it looked like the greens were slow, but they were deceiving. They were actually decently fast.

The green fee after 1:00 PM was $67.00 for non-resident. Club rental (Cobra and Cleveland) was very cheap ($25). Overall, it was an excellent course and experience for the money.

Great local experience

What a great time. This is the course the locals play. As such, it was a great time. Waiehu is a municipal course.

They take reservations 2 days in advance for groups of 2 or more. Playing as a single, I was paired with a group of locals. That was the best decision I could ever experience. It was a blast to play with the locals.

When you arrive, you go to the starters booth, and pay your green fee, CASH ONLY. The course is very walkable, but if you want a cart, you go to the Pro Shop, and can use a credit card or cash.

yards, The course is not real long., and has 2 tee boxes. Forward plays to 5478 yards. Back plays to 6330.

The front 9 plays along the ocean, and the wind can affect all shots. The back nine is more inland, but still affected by wind.

Greens roll at average speed, and grain comes in to play. The fairways are in no way at resort conditions, but were well mowed.

Would love to play here again

Pace of Play Impaired by Sixsomes

This is the oldest course on Maui along with Maui CC.

They were both started in 1927.

This is the only Maui golf course with holes on the ocean and the only true Muny as it's owned by Maui County. They were cash only here for years, now they will charge

a 2.5% service charge when you use a credit card. Interesting.

You pay Neal the starter $58.00; the locals pay $10. Then you

walk over to the guy who has the cart rental contract and he gets paid $21.

With a tee time at 7:50 AM you might figure that you have an early start and will be finished early. Sorry Brah: Neal the starter has managed to sign two GROUPS of SIX players in front of you. Yes, today there are TWO SIXSOMES in front of you and they are playing Army Golf.

I thought FIVESOMES were bad but I have never seen a SIXSOME.

The course has nice views and good greens on the back nine. This course has only 2 tee boxes which makes it hard on women and senior players.

The fairways and greens on the front nine are in below average condition. The front nine is flat and borders the ocean, the only hidden green is #6.

The wind showed up at 11:30 so we still had an hour and a half to

play in a 20mph gale.

The back nine is like a Roller Coaster as it runs up and down hills with many blind shots to the green.

If the pace of play was decent this would be a fun place to play but under the current management policy of allowing consecutive sixsomes to play during the prime morning hours, I cannot recommend this course.
