The Preserve at Oak Meadows
About
Formerly Oak Meadows Golf Course, The Preserve at Oak Meadows reopened in 2017 with a new name and following extensive renovations over a two-year span. Formerly a 27-hole layout on 288 acres, the transformation was a conservation and recreation project by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County that took the 1920s-era design and modernized it for drainage and environmental sensitivity. From a playability standpoint, conditions will be more durable in the face of flooding, while eco-friendly highlights include improved water quality within Salt Creek, increased local flood relief by 20 million gallons and the enhancement of an environmental refuge for both golfers and wildlife.

Best Golf Courses at Dupag
With out ball strikes & long is hard to fine the ball going to deep water
Not easy playing golf this course to many Big Bougy .
poor start
"glove" storage compartment was full of water and i put my cell and wallet in it. cart gps did not work and had to switch out at a moment before teeing off. the others already hit before and were waiting for me. tee boxes were hard, fairways rolling, greens held well, sand traps were perfect
some fairways were not in the best condition. beware if it gets much dryer. layup shots will roll in hazards.
course COULD be fun to lay
3 players and it took 4 .6 hrs to play 18 holes. It had rained the day before and it was cart path only but that wasn't an issue. Had a foursome ahead of us so when we caught up to them at nine we thought that they were just having a bad hole. We dragged for the next 9 holes w/ a backup of other players behind us. No rangers. The foursome was 3 - 4 holes behind the next group in front and wouldn't even waive us thru. I was surprised about how wet the course was after they supposedly put all this drainage in and re did all the holes. Maybe we will try again.
Really enjoyed the course
A beautiful day to play this great course. Conditions were great considering we had heavy rain in the area a few days prior. The changes made to this course over the past 2 years have made a huge difference. Love playing here and would recommend to any golfer looking diva beautiful challenging layout.
Great course
They did an amazing job with the course layout
First class Golf and friendly staff
Great layout and experience!
Really enjoyed the redesign of the old course. Some really scenic and challenging new holes. Everyone working was very friendly and accommodating.
This Course absolutely great.
First time a playing this golf course, break my score 84 omg.
Pace was too slow on an otherwise excellent layout. Course will take another year to bed in but is still an excellent layout.
The "new course" is a great layout. Good risk/reward holes. Greens are surprisingly good for such a new course. I look forward to playing it again.
Won't go back
First time I played the course and won't go back. Play was really slow. Only played 11 holes and quit. It almost 3 hours to play 11 holes. As we pulled up to the 12th tee we were the second group on the tee and there was a group in the fairway and a group on the green. At no time during the day did we see a ranger. Said something to person in the club house afterwards about the slow play and no ranger and he didn't seem to care, just said "ok",
Excellent upgrade
Layout is one of the best in the area. Needs to mature A bit more. Need to go along the lines of Bowes Creek with the range. Bowes is still a better value with unlimited range access included in greens fee.
New design works
Rains that used to flood the course now fill the marshland and present a good challenge and nice look. If they do as well with a new clubhouse as they did with the course it will be a must play venue.
NEW COURSE NEEDS TIME TO MATURE
I played the old "Oak Meadows" course many times. I was very excited to see the new layout and we played after lots of rain that would have made the old Oak Meadows unplayable. The course was good and it was fun trying to remember what was where and how it was changed. I think the course needs to mature somewhat. There were millions of dandelions all over the course but I am assuming they are doing a more natural approach to this course and will eventually let some kind of prairie grass grow in. All of my foursome thought it was overpriced for the condition it was in. Needs a new clubhouse too! Fun to see what they did and to help with flooding and managing Salt Creek. Nice job on that!!
The Preserve at Oak Meadows - Re-designed Muni Will Be Great!
The Good: Newly redesigned after clubhouse fire & horrible flooding, this former country club from the 1920's turned Forest Preserve course is one of the most intriguing courses in the western Chicago 'burbs. Architect Greg Martin moved nearly Heaven and Earth, weaving a unique routing through woods and wetlands and incorporates many beautiful. white sand traps. Very strong Par 5's and good variety with the Par 4's and Par 3's. Course conditions were good considering the infancy of the course. The greens complexes are awesome and putt really true. Good practice facility, in particular the stellar driving range. On-course service was timely and friendly. GPS on carts!
The Bad: Some of the fairways were a little beat up, which is expected for a brand new course. Some of the holes had awkward landing areas off the tee, as well as many forced carries. Amenities are lacking with very limited clubhouse (new one being built in next year) and no restaurant/bar area. The starter was a little cranky for my liking. Was pricey at $89 considering the conditioning under development and sub-par amenities.
The Verdict: The Preserve is definitely a course to watch over the coming years. Has the potential to rival The Highalnds of Elgin and Shepherd's Crook as best municipal courses in the state.
Best Hole: All the Par 5's are great but #5 is a beautiful, uphill hole that requires a tee shot over a trap and then precise approaches to a small, guarded green.
great course, friendly employees, great time
The course was redesigned. The employees were very friendly. The course is challenging, fair and scenic. Some tables for a beer after the round, but not a place to linger.
JUST GO PLAY THERE!
Tees, fairways, greens and traps all in good shape. Play away from water as fairways will direct your ball towards it. Big greens and soft sand in traps. Get a good deal on Golf Now and give it a try.
Golfweek's #6 in Illinois for 2018 you can play
The Preserve opens up for it's inaugural season after preview play last summer/fall. Read my previous reviews of this course for good info and tips.
Spring so far has not been kind Chicagoland golf courses. Grasses are finally just beginning to pop but a worst possible scenario for this reno/rerouted course.
The new Oak Meadows is a very pleasurable play - nicely conditioned greensites and extremely consistent sand in the bunkers - they really are awesome. The fairways and roughs still need a lot of maturation. Course playing very hard and fast. The 2nd fairway is a work in progress to fix some drainage issues. They now have sand bottles on the carts. Excellent GPS system. Good range/practice area.
Welcoming folks. Trailer for the halfway house. With a new clubhouse (hoping they break ground on this soon) as well as a few years of good grass growth coupled with top notch maintenance this course will absolutely be a 4.5 to 5 star facility.
Golfweek's ranking as an top ten public you can play in IL is really a tad early at this juncture......they completely overlooked tee to green conditions...course is just too young at this point. Imploring all golfers to please please please take care of this place - jury is out.....already seeing deterioration of conditions at some of the green side roll out areas and hope folks will rake the bunkers properly (they won't) and actually repair a ball mark or three (they won't).....saw several groups do absolutely nothing to clean up after themselves. Really sad. Sand your divots and a couple of others in the fairway!!!
Heartily recommend this track......$55 was a very fair rate but when they increase to $70/$80 summer rates it does become a bit too pricey for my taste. Selfishly I hope their rates limit the amount of play so the course can grow in. Crowded tee sheets will definitely result in a 5 hour plus rounds....a ton of forced carries and trouble for high handicappers. We got around in 4 hours yesterday....which was amazing because the two-some playing the tips in front of us were everywhere - both shot well over 100 but their scorecards told a different story.
Course should strongly consider marking the cart paths or have signs at each of the greens to show you where to park your cart to access the green. This would greatly assist with speed of play - so when golfers exiting greens will already be on their way to the next tee versus the group behind waiting several extra minutes - on several holes carts should be parked behind greens (not to the side) due to the routing.
I'm just getting started!
Hey, this course was redesigned and they did a great job. It's just growing out but you can play it and enjoy it. Let's support communities that put the effort into upgrading their facilities, or we are going to lose all the good golf courses. That said, a guy i was playing with was comparing the greens fees of this course to other upscale courses unfavourable. It looks like there is a lot of chatter on the net about the rack rate green fees. I don't know if the demographics of this area match up with the pricing model. We'll see.
Re-do a no go!
First time playing new design. People were nice, but this place charges $89 on the weekend, peak season! Not worth it one bit for that price. Plus, still has the double-wide trailer of a clubhouse because the supposed “new multi-million dollar” clubhouse is nowhere in sight. It’s been 4 years since that fire. Come on! Now your charging $89 when it used to be $30 to walk.
