The Preserve at Oak Meadows

About
Formerly Oak Meadows Golf Course, The Preserve at Oak Meadows reopened in 2017 with a new name and following extensive renovations over a two-year span. Formerly a 27-hole layout on 288 acres, the transformation was a conservation and recreation project by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County that took the 1920s-era design and modernized it for drainage and environmental sensitivity. From a playability standpoint, conditions will be more durable in the face of flooding, while eco-friendly highlights include improved water quality within Salt Creek, increased local flood relief by 20 million gallons and the enhancement of an environmental refuge for both golfers and wildlife.

A Great Course needs Better Carts
The Preserve at Oak Meadows is a beautiful & challenging course. For the price paid, I would expect better carts. The carts restrict you from driving in certain area (which is smart) but nobody told us this nor are there any signs stating that forward driving can shut off. That could be very dangerous. Unfortunately, the carts here do not have USB ports. Hopefully - based on the fees to play here and what they charge for beer - they will upgrade their carts soon.
Solid
Fun course. Interesting layout. Greens in nice condition, bunkers a little soft but fine, enjoyable and a course where you can score. Love that it has some really cool risk/reward par 4s.
Greens were only negative
The greens were slow but with so much rain it was very understandable. Great layout!
Post reno
This was the first time I played this course before the renovation. Before that it was just another forrest preserve course. Now...I was quite impressed. The 1st and 18th holes are the same (from what I remember), but those 2 fit in nicely with the new layout. Greens could’ve been a little faster, but no complaints there. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a ranger roaming around but thankfully the pace of play wasn’t bad. I definitely recommend the course to anyone looking to play there.
The Preserve at Oak Meadows is a MUST PLAY
We played on Memorial day and played in less than 4 hours. With all of the rain we've had lately, I expected the course to be extremely wet and sloppy. Thankfully, it was in pristine condition. The greens were as pure as any I have played, and the tees and fairways were perfect. They even managed to get out and cut fairways on a wet holiday. Impressive! Any old reviews that call into question the conditions of the renovated course can be dismissed. It's back, and it's beautiful. Go play Oak Meadows!
Solid redesign
I was a huge fan of the original Oak Meadows and I also like the redesign. They kept a number of the original holes and modernized the rest of the course. I played after some rain and while the course was moist and a few holes were path only, the drainage is significantly better than before. The greens had good speed and rolled well. The range is roomy with a practice bunker and chipping green. The only short coming is they need a clubhouse. Overall good experience
The Front 9 Is A Disaster, Rest Is Good!
The front 9 is an absolute joke. The teeing areas are sparse and full of clovers and dandelions. The fairways are obviously untended. Divots are not filled nor replaced. There are too many spots that are just flat-out dead. Whether it's the weather or something else does not matter - too many spots on the fairways, the areas you're supposed to aim for(!) are in absolutely terrible shape and punish the player. I'm almost 60 and I've never seen such a big difference between 9's on one course! It's such a shame, too! The greens and almost the entire back 9 are in fantastic shape! What's up with the front???
Getting better all the time
Best green complexes in the area. Course is growing in beautifully. Can’t wait till course becomes more mature. Great range and practice area.
Great Layout,
The Preserve at Oak Meadows is a really fun course, with picturesque views throughout. The layout is challenging but fair, the greens undulating and fast for April. It was a difficult day with a lot of wind, but the course held up well. I look forward to playing there again as the weather warms and the fairways and greens firm up.
Great Course
A great golf place to play golf. I used to play out here when it was Oak Meadows and loved it. This was my first time playing the new course. This new course is even better. I played the black tees and was definitely challenged. I had fun and played well. I highly recommend playing the correct tees for your skill level. Pace of play was ahead all day despite a fair amount of golfers out on the course and it being cart path only. The staff was friendly and explained everything I needed to know. They even addressed some of my concerns from reading some other reviews. I really can't see how anyone can have a bad time at this place. When the new clubhouse is built this will be THE place to play golf.
WOW- what a great track!
Golfing in march/ April is always a bonus but wow, this course is a master piece. The layout is hands down championship caliber. Depending on the tee's you play from will determine the difficulty. As a young course, it needs a little time to grow in and mature but holy macro! This is a GOLF COURSE! I cant wait to come back and play this track when its nice out and grass starts growing! Definitely a new Gem in Chicagoland!
Great Track
For a round in March in Chicagoland the conditions at this course were impressive. Each hole forces you to hit shots that require good course management. Great layout and can't wait to see how everything grows in as summer gets closer. Highly recommended and will be back!
Amazing, beautiful public golf course- it's a golfers course!
The Preserve at Oak Meadows is unlike any public golf course to be found in the Chicagoland area. The recent 2 year renovations are amazing. It's still growing in to its form (so be a little patient) but I have no doubt when it starts to mature it will be a premier destination course for all players. I have played mulitple tour championship courses and this track is right up in there. You can play it as friendly as you want but if you want a challenge, this course has it all. The practice facility is top notch and the staff is very friendly. I will be back very soon and plan to spread the word about this gem!
Not worth full price
Only good thing is played for half price. Too many areas of the course still being worked on. Many burnt-out areas and very easy to lose your ball. Not for the average golfer.
