The Preserve at Oak Meadows

About
Formerly Oak Meadows Golf Course, The Preserve at Oak Meadows reopened in 2017 with a new name and following extensive renovations over a two-year span. Formerly a 27-hole layout on 288 acres, the transformation was a conservation and recreation project by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County that took the 1920s-era design and modernized it for drainage and environmental sensitivity. From a playability standpoint, conditions will be more durable in the face of flooding, while eco-friendly highlights include improved water quality within Salt Creek, increased local flood relief by 20 million gallons and the enhancement of an environmental refuge for both golfers and wildlife.

Really Hard and Fast
With the dry weather it's amazing how hard and fast the fairways can play at the Preserve. The ball was flying this day. Course in great shape. See my previous review. Another enjoyable day...can't wait for the new clubhouse to be finished.
Excellent Experience
The grounds were in excellent condition! The course was challenging and tested many clubs in my bag, but the holes are fair and there are several good scoring opportunities.
We chose a tee time which mandated walking due to current pandemic restrictions, and the group in front of us was incredibly slow. The round took 4:40 to play, but I consider that just a stroke of bad luck. Rounds should take 4:00-4:15 here as a foursome, and the walk is simple and refreshing. It was an excellent day!
4.5 Stars - Expensive but worth it
Last played Preserve in October 2018.....see my previous reviews.. Course has grown in quite nicely since the redo/renovation. Conditions all around were very good.....greens had a nice speed.....very playable....any faster and they wouldn't be fun. .We had an enjoyable well paced slightly over 4 hour round. Halfway house with restrooms after the 4th and 13th holes is now open!. Hopefully the new clubhouse will be completed for next season......they've been in "temporary" facilities since 2009. Highly recommend a round here......solid golf course and routing and always well above average conditioning.
Excellent course in excellent shape
Great layout, challenging for avg golfers like me but lots of fun. A course where you can appreciate the thinking and strategy behind the hole designs. Conditions were near-private club quality. Lots of nature areas, marshes and the meandering Salk Creek. Gave a lower score on amenities only because the clubhouse is under construction. Hopefully the price won’t go up too much once that’s completed. A great, great option in the western burbs.
Love what they did with the place. Enjoyed that drive-able par 4.
Keeps Getting Better
As this course matures, the new layout is getting even more challenging. Great maintenance, but a little pricey.
Excellent Renovation
If you're focused on clubhouse amenities you may not be thrilled upon arrival, but otherwise, this is a great track. The layout was exciting with friendly, wide fairways that allowed many GIRs. The challenge comes on the undulating greens that made the day that much more fun. It's not the longest course, so taking four iron off the tee still left some short-iron approaches. You can't get away with spraying driver here.
Many of the greens are crowned and the course quality feels much greater than the price point--a lot of value to be had. In August the track was in excellent shape tee to green, even with a lot of rain the night before.
The practice facility was also excellent with a sizable driving range and two short-game greens w/ bunkers. Can't wait to get back.
Great layout
Great course, only thing keeping from 5 star was the greens were really sandy and produced inconsistent putts. But definitely one of the best courses around Chicago.
Course was in great shape after 3 inches of rain. Staff is not friendly at all. This course is own and run by county
Great layout and well manicured
Very happy with the experience at the preserve. We were really impressed with the condition of the course in late October. The bunkers, fairways, and greens were in wonderful condition and I thought the layout was challenging and different. Would reccomend!
Awesome new layout make sure you choose the right tee box not for short hitters
Beautiful fall day
Great course! challenging and a lot of fun. The only bummer is construction is happening, I assume on a new club house and a trailer is being used for food
2nd Time
The course was in great shape. Due to the rain on Sunday it was cart path only. I thought the drainage was excellent as I didn't have any plugged balls. The only downside to the renovation of the course is that my Sky Caddie tries to read the former layout so I had to rely on the cart monitor which was great.
Five under
The course was in great shape. I was a single and had time to figure each shot out. I love this tract!
Worth the price
Well worth the cost great course the up keep was amazing. A couple challenging holes but still fun. The greens can be tricky to read but still the overall experience was amazing.
