Bartlett Hills Golf Club
About
Bartlett Hills Golf Club has been a favorite Chicagoland golf destination since it first opened in 1929. To keep the layout up to modern standards, it has undergone many changes over the years but it still has the same classic character. At 6,463 yards from the back tees, this traditional layout might not be long but it still provides a fair test. Rather than distance, the golf course demands smart play and accurate shot placement thanks to narrow, tree-lined fairways and several tricky doglegs. You might not have many chances to use your driver but you'll definitely get some iron practice. There isn't too much trouble off of the tees at Bartlett Hills G.C. But greenside you'll be faced with nearly 30 strategically placed bunkers and water hazards come into play on seven holes, which include some forced carries.

Hit the Fairways; Watch the Greens
Loved playing this course in Bartlett, IL. I signed up as a single and played with a three some who wanted to play the blue tees (6400 yards plus.) I had never played the blue tees at Bartlett, and the back nine is definitely much more challeging on the 400+ yard par fours. There is a lot of pronounced and subtle slope to the greens, depending on pin placement. I hit 11 greens in regulation, yield 10 pars and 8 bogies. No one putt pars or birdies, just two one putt bogies. The rough around the greens is lush and thick. Well worth playing again (from the white tees!)
Tough - Tight Course
This course has a number of tight fairways & tricky greens. Very wooded with large trees lining most fairways. If you're good with the driver, you can score on this course. Otherwise, be prepared to get creative with your recovery shots.
Great course
I would have given this course 5 stars if it weren't for all the divots in the greens and a lot of the divots in the fairways that no one bother to fix. There were some tee boxes that were pretty bad...but most were good. If this is all fixed this course would definitely be a 5. great course...great staff
Nice but slow
while they maintain and push for 2:05 -2:210 for the front nine for their permanent tee times they do NOTHING for anybody after that . NEVER saw the Ranger on the back 9 and by the 12th hole, there was an entire hole open (if not more) ahead. Keep pace with the group ahead of you is the Golden Rule. It's a shame because it was a nice course at a reasonable rate. Charge $1 more per 18 and get a ranger out there and you'll still come out ahead.
Greens Need Work
A lot of ball marks on the greens. On each hole at last one member of our foursome had a putt effected by a ball mark. We tried to repair as many as possible, but there were too many. I know this is a park district course, and etiquette isn't always followed, but this did bring the rating down to 4 stars.
Great course for the money but it may have been twilight rate at 2:30PM
Great course for the money but it may have been twilight rate at 2:30PM. Some challeging holes along with a few pretty open. If your going to spray you will lose some golf balls.
THe course is unique and plays different all the time
Always a great challenge and I frequently play there.
Very nice golf course
I've played here before and always enjoyed the course. I recommend this course to everyone.
prejudice old cokroach ranger
after finishing first nine holes when we came to 10th hole,
ranger make us wait for 30 minutes because they had 5pm group of their buddies playing on back 9
beautiful course with great course conditions
An enjoyable course. Many beautiful trees amoung rolling hills. Greens were in great condition and the course provided a variety of challenging holes. Highly recommend this course
Very nice course
This was a very well-mailtained course. Very good price found on Golfnow.com. I will go back again.
The course was in excellent condition
The front 9 played in a little over 2 hours, however the back nine was backed up. A course ranger might have helped play proceed quicker. The back nine was played in 2 hrs. 40 minutes.
Pace of play very slow.
For starting at 10:30 am it would seem that we should be able to get a round of golf in around the 4 - 4:15 hour time frame. But it took us 5 hours. The pace was slow and there were no rangers to be found. The cart girl was another issue. She would just drive by and if you were lucky enough to see her you might have been able to wave here over to get a drink. With that being said the course was in good shape and the concession stand at the turn was well received.
Locals have a membership attitude.
Tight, tree lined fairways and rolling terrain make for an interesting and sometimes challenging day on the course. Our foresome played between a three-some of 25ish guys having a nice afternoon on the course. They played along at a slow pace, but we never pushed or waited for them to finish. Behind us, we had what appeared to be a three generation three-some. Grandpa was riding, while dad and son walked. The first time they hit into us, a tee-ball whizzed by with neary a fore. I let it go, we all have made that mistake. On number ten, we are on the green putting out when junior sends his approach over our heads and it bounces over the green not more than 10 feet from us. I look down the fairway and can clearly see dad and son so I YELL "fore" just so they get the idea. Dad yells back that junior had a blind shot and could not see us on the green. Sorry for getting in juniors way and hope he has a great career at the pro shop.
Bring your iron play and short game
If you are a straight driver, you will score well. This course is relatively short, but wait until the summer when greens are in full speed. Since the course only water in play in only 3 holes, adding fairway bunkers will provide additional challenge off the tee.
Enjoyed the course, the terrain was great. The hills made the course fun to play,
The course is well maintained and the course design is refhreshing for illinois. Not flat and open. The hills make it very different than many of the other courses in the area. Pace of play was very good
Nice layout for the price
Bartlett Hills presents some nice challenges for the moderately-skilled golfer, with some interesting holes and unique design features. The course is in generally good condition; the greens are good, but could use some TLC. Slow play can also be an issue here; closer monitoring by the course staff/rangers to keep up pace of play would be a real plus.
Not overpowering but requires control
Elevation changes and some tight driving holes make the course interesting. Long hitters will definitely want to play from the tips.
Great Value, better later in the season
The course is fabulous. It's a great layout with some challenging holes and rewards some risk takers. The greens weren't great because we had so much rain recently that I don't think they have rolled or cut them very tight. I really enjoyed playing although pace of play slowed down significantly towards the end and someone said in summer time it can really slow down.
great lay out, with hill side terrain for a change in flatlander
good course- worth the money, you have to try it if you live near Chicago land
I agree completely with your comments about the employees being dismissive and not caring once you have paid. We had a similar experience, and played a 5 hour 40 minutes round, and when we told the pro-shop, they did nothing. That old ranger on the first tee appears to only be there to make sure no one goes to the tee before their time. He's some old-timer sitting in a cart with nothing else to do. Great course, horrible employees.
