Long rounds
I haven’t played Hilldale in a few years and I remember why. Went there on a Monday and the entire round was close to 5 hours with the back 9 close to 3 hours itself. Course has a lot of bare spots without grass and bunkers are very inconsistent with some areas with no sand.
Tough design, but brat at turn was $8.5 so -1 point. We were paired w random beginners, and we finished 4:35 instead of 4:20. Carts were very finicky
Short, but challenging, good condition
Enjoyed the round and played ahead of pace. The greens were in great shape and rolled true and fast.
Service is horrible
Unfortunately, they don't handle people well. They are in such a hurry to get out they forget why they are there. Very rude and even loud at times from check in to the cart guys. The started was actually very accommodating.
Wadsky
This is a sporty 18-hole course that you will enjoy playing. Staff is friendly, rates are quite reasonable, and the course is well cared for. I played in a threesome on a Tuesday PM and the pace of play was excellent. A few of the greens have been cut too short and or experienced heat damage but overall, the greens are in good shape. For a municipal course you will enjoy the venue.
Too slow
I liked the courses later and it was in good shape for the price. The only issue was the pace of play. Over 5 hours.
No ranger all day. Not sure I would return due to pace.
Very poor service
Rude and demanding from the check in counter to the guy who collects the carts.
Very dissatisfied. I have been to many courses and this is one of the worst.
Well maintained, need better signs for golf cart restrictions
Hilldale has well maintained grounds. Clean fairways, smooth greens, and trimmed fringe and rough areas.
The holes are varied with many doglegs and water hazards, alongside nice straight fairways.
We went on a Saturday afternoon and we did wait at a few holes for the groups in front. The carts track pace of play, and we were a few minutes behind at times. 18 holes took just under 4 hours.
The golf carts have gps built in, which was very handy except for one thing. The carts disable themselves when you’re in a restricted area. However, those restricted areas are not marked and an alarm goes off when you enter one, and the cart is disabled immediately. This was rather annoying and I ended up just staying on the cart path even though 90 degree rule was in effect.
JUST GO PLAY THERE!
Great layout with many interesting holes. Greens especially good and fast. Tees, fairways, traps all in fine shape. Get a discount using Golf Now and enjoy this marvelous layout.
Where Have all the Rangers Gone?
I have golfed here on numerous occasions and this could be the last time. Pace of play was horrendous with no rangers in sight. It was so bad that 2 in our group left after 9. Afternoon on a week day should not take 2 1/2 hours on the front. KIds were riding bikes in the fairway on 11 and when I when i questioned them they said "there's never any rangers and if there are they don't say anything". They were fishing balls out of the culvert and selling them. Good for them little entrepreneurs, but they should have sense enough to not ride bikes on the fairway and get out of the way when someone is hitting an approach. Course was in good shape and the price was good, only reason rating isn't a one.
