Golfer Reviews
course was in very condition today especially after all the rain
I got a great deal on golf now and the course was in very good condition. pace of play was very good and I usually play this course every week.
Great course
Well maintained and clean greens and very friendly staff.
Foot high rough slowwwww greens
Horrible setup. Fairways are 20 yds wide with rough nearly 8-12 inches. Looked for balls all day. Miss the fairway by a foot and lose your ball. Seriously took 5 hrs to play and we were only ones playing. Stay away
This course is overpriced and bad quality
I've lived in Bartlett for 21 years and have never considered this place to be a nice course. It is a ski "resort" in the winter which damages the course and it isn't well kept at all. The area isn't very pleasant to look at, and there are no holes that are exciting to look at or play. I'm shocked that they can charge $49 for 18 holes is ridiculous. Villa Olivia needs to realize that they're not a fancy place and just your mediocre all in one. Take your way down route 20 a couple miles and play Highlands of Elgin for roughly the same price with amazing views and a well kept course.
Back 9 were closed
There was no indication that the back 9 were closed nor did Golfnow.com indicate this. That was a disappointment.
However they allow me to play the front 9 twice.
Had I known about that I would not have played.
Horrible experience in every aspect
We were golfing as a pair and we were just surrounded by foursomes. Our tee time was 10:52, but due to a late arrival, we teed off at about 11:03 (no groups behind us until 11:07). During check-in, we were never told there was an outing ahead of us or that the entire course had been aerated and greens were all grids of aerated holes and sand, and there were no signs posted as such. We golfed through one foursome, who clearly knew the etiquette and was very nice. The next foursome, however, turned out to be the last group of the outing and they were at least 2 holes behind the rest of the groups ahead of them, so as they were all eating lunch at the halfway turn, we tried to go around them. They complained to the point that we ended up going to the pro shop to ask if they could send a ranger to speed them up, but we just watched as the ranger passed their group up twice without saying a word. We finished the round in 5 hours...unacceptable. We tried to talk to a manager twice, but the employees couldn't find him either time. While packing up the clubs in the parking lot, the ranger drove by in his cart to throw out bags of garbage...now we know what the ranger's REAL job is there. SUGGESTION TO THE STAFF: If you are going to book an outing, leave 4 or 5 tee times between the outing and other golfers. NEVER have them golf right behind one another, or you will most certainly get the aforementioned disaster.
Repeat visit
I agree with other reviewers. The course seems to be a little run down. The people in front of us were ridiculous hacks, drove their carts on the green. We also were behind a 5-some for awhile! First 9 took 1 hour 40 back took 2.5 ouch
Once upon a time this course was nice
Played this years ago....sad when facilities are left to deteriorate .... fairways were decent, but the greens and tee boxes were terrible. Cart path and even fairways you bounced up and down not very good for your back. . Surprisingly I still played well...the greens on back were aerified, they really need to be replaced. The lunch was excellent and bartender gave us good service.
A very good value for hte money
This was the third time I played Villa Olivia this year, and on all three occasions I was very pleased. This was the third time we played the course, and we did notice a few greens needed some work, but for the most part the greens on the front nine were great. They had done some seasonal aerating on the greens on the back nine the day before, but overall the course was in pretty good condition. As far as overall course conditions I would only say that the tees were nothing special. It's a decent track, and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Villa Olivia may not be as special as many courses in the area, but as far as I am concerned it's a great deal for the money.
Fall Golf
Challenging course not recommended for the occasional hacker. The course was in very good condition but a few of the sand traps had no rakes.
Skip it unless you plan to spend the entire day on the course
I knew this was going to be a bad day when we got to the course paid our green fees then found out no carts were available. We waited over 10 minutes for a cart. Our tee off time was 10 minutes late. There was no starter when we showed up at the first tee. The starter did show up just before we hit, he then went and chased down the people he missed, making us wait till he clear our target area. We ended up waiting to hit for every shot. At no time did anyone from the course try to speed up play. After 4 hours and only being on the 12 hole we left the course. The Tees and Greens we in good shape. Fairways were so so. Could be a fun course to play if they manage the rate of play by others.
never again
This over 5 hr course is horrible had to wait for carts. Had kids playing music in the group behind us. They were waiting at every tee box like everyone else on the course. The tee box was as long as the rough. Ill never return. Not worth more than $20 with cart.
Very good round
I played this course twice recently with my friend who has handicap 16 and with my daughter (beginner).
Everyone who played with me agreed very good scene of back 9 holes especially. Only the tee box areas should be maintained better (need less weed and short grass and evenly balanced standing) and then this course has very good value.
Not for prime time
This course was in terrible shape. Greens were only fair. Rough was not cut. Only one guy cutting anything. Fairways were not cut except for 6 feet on one side of one fairway. Looks like the cart paths have not been fixed in 25 years.
Only positive was that the starter seemed to be friendly. Will never return.
