Settler's Hill Golf Course

About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Nice layout
Very challenging course, lots of trees and hilly conditions. Course was in pretty good shape as we played a day after substantial rainfall. The greens were a little marked up but smooth. Tough course to walk.
Settler's Hill
The greens were not all that great, especially the back nine. Lots of bare spots. The layout is terrible as far as getting back to the clubhouse after 9 holes. The beverage cart was available and the cart lady was knowledgeable, friendly and just outstanding. The clubhouse was too hot.
Should open a full service bar. Kudos to the staff as cart path only was required at the start of play then after several holes we were informed that we could do 90 degrees on fairways. Good enough to comeback.
Overbooked
I have played this course multiple times and have never waited as long as I did for each hole. Way too many people. Pace was terrible, no field rangers to be found. Took us 4 hours to complete just 9 holes. Terrible!
Bad shape
Course was in terrible shape. Rough was loaded with weeds and plots of grass.
Greens were just ok nothing special.
General course conditions were pitiful. Played this course many times in the past years was always decent. Paid $47 on TeeTime certainly not worth the money.
It’s a nice layout but greens stink
I know it was closed for years then renovated , but greens appear diseased and not worth the cost . If they got the greens in better shape I would def play more
Golf
The pace of play was slow! The course was not in good shape. Played there many times before and was much better. No signage on how to get to first hole and half way house was closed.
Walking rate?! No chance
Someone here took over that lost touch of reality.
1. The course is not walkable. The first tee is a mile away from the clubhouse. How dare you make people think it is.
2. Unless you’ve found a way to miraculously change your concrete grounds. The fee with cart is a crazy ask. The tee boxes are beat. Greens are equal or less to villa Olivia .
Course layout is fun and what’s had me back. But at these prices Mill Creek is a much better value.
Regular golfer with average handicap
Course condition is sad. Barren spit all over. Fee not even close to be worth it. It's sad because a few years back it was not near as bad and it is okay layout.
Poor conditions
Considering it’s mid May, this course is already beat up and in rough shape. I think I broke three teas just trying to push them into the tea box with conditions like this. I won’t play it again this year. That’s for sure.
Getting there
This is a nice challenging course, plenty of different types of fairways. Course is slowly coming around after lots of work by the staff. Pace of play was a non issue, carts are newer and staff is very friendly. Decent value for the price and t-time availability
They have really let this course go
I haven’t played this course in several years. First of all the staff was great. The rangers were by a couple of times to see if we needed anything. The course itself was pretty bad. A couple of the fairways had little or no grass and the greens were pretty beat up. There are so many other courses to play. The playing conditions need major help.
New design left nothing to remember
I was very disappointed in seeing that the new layout took away some of the best holes on the back nine not to mention the condition of the course was lackluster poor all left up to a park district that didn’t care about the course for $75 You can definitely find other places to play that are much better
Could be nice but misses the mark
Pros
Staff was friendly.
Course has a ton of potential, nice layout
Has driving range and 2 warm up areas
Cons:
The entire course is rock hard- bounces go anywhere and far, some tee boxes difficult to get a tee in the ground.
A lot of bare spots, and overall not very good grass conditions
Driving range is usually open but not always
Pace of play was about 5 hours on a Saturday
They ran out of carts so you had to wait
