Settler's Hill Golf Course

About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Greens and tee boxes are the 2 most important things in golf I have golfed here as long as this has been there To me this course is ready for a new vision if don’t work on make it snow Hills The only time I play is if I don’t have to pay The staff were pretty good If these courses Represent Kane County Close them rebuild them Look at the reviews That’s why your 3 star should actually be 1.5 stars Kane county you need to play the courses and see what you Think
Settlers Hill Aug/2025
I played Sunday 8/4/2025 at the pace of a snail 🐌 . Which messed with my game. Also the new layout on the front 9 is awful. I don’t like it. I felt cramped. Honestly 2/5 stars is generous. The greens are hard dirt & not kept well & super fast. Just an honey personal experience review.
This course could be a gem.
Layout is great. The terrain is varied which makes it a little technical. Being on a landfilll, there is some elevation at times and the when the weather has been dry for a while, the ball rolls and rolls.
Staff is very nice which feels like fresh air these days. Pace of play was terrible (3 hours for 9 holes 😳)… but there is a serious need for maintenance. This tee box on the 2nd par 3 is a disgrace…( staff will know what I am talking about)…
In the end, it’s a fun course which I will definitely play again.
A Mighty Fall From Grace
I've been playing this course on and off since the mid-90's and I hate to say it, but it has never been in worse condition. It really took a dive since the redesign a few years ago. The tee boxes are beat-up and a few of the par-3 holes had little-to-no grass (looking at you #6). The greens were soft, but not receptive with thinning grass. Weeds and bare patches with pebbles can be found on the fairways and rough. To make it worse, the round was almost 6 hours while we waited on most shots. Their Management & Greenskeeping teams should be embarrassed about the overall condition. Sorry, but buyer beware.
Nice track. Greens and tees were beat to he!!. Should make MANDATORY ball repair tool. NOBODY FIXED THEIR BALL MARKS. Pathetic. Greens cut so close, you are about to lose them in the heat. Overall fun course, conditions were poor
White tee boxes
The middle tee boxes were in bad condition. They should be moved more frequently to other better areas.
Settlers Cement
The course is in decent shape but some of the greens need to worked on. The staff is great and good bang for the buck but the ground is solid rock. I never broke tees planting in the ground for my tee shot and don’t get me started on the bounce of the ball. Some holes felt as if I was playing on actual concrete. We have had a lot of rain but this course needs to be flooded to soften it up.
Reputation is accurate but not the whole story
Ive wanted to go here for a few years. Its hard to get any terrain, elevation or breathing room between holes in the Chicagoland golf scene. This course built on a massive landfill could be different...
But I constantly hear complaints that make up the majority of reviews. Slow play, horrible course conditions being most of the reports.
I played in a bout 4.5 hours on a sunny Friday which could've been better but not quite a huge problem. And, the teeboxed and greens were pretty beat up considering most of the rest of the course was beautiful.
So the issues are true, but I loved it anyways.
The course layout is awesome. Interesting holes unlike almost anything found in this area. Tons of elevation changes and nary a flat lie anywhere. Challenging but fair, and has tons of situations where you need to make choices.
All for a lower than average price. Can't give it top marks for the blatant issues, but I came away loving it in the end.
Worst redesign ever!!
I've played this track for years. Finally played again after 5 years. The redesign is absolutely awful!! No. 5 makes no sense. Par 3 6th is one of the worst 3's ever. They removed the old signature par 3 16th hole for an awful new par 3. Driving range is a joke. Course isn't maintained very well. Tee boxes and greens worst I've ever seen. Weeds everywhere. Sad to see the decline. Wow!
Tee times where two close. Pace of play even for a fathers day weekend was completely unacceptable. Almost 3 hours for the front nine holes. Many multi group backups on different holes.
5:45 hr round
Crowded Sat day before Father’s Day and they cut pins right next to ridges or 3 paces off the edge making for almost 6 hr round.
Ranger claimed they were trying to move groups along but very slow pace that day.
Wouldn’t pay full price!
I like the layout of this course, but it is in rough condition. It was a GolfNow special so that’s why I bought it, but would never pay full price to play this course!
