Settler's Hill Golf Course

About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Interesting course..
Had interesting holes and was challenging. No half way house for drinks or food. Beverage cart sparse.
Green are the worst condition I’ve seen
They are really letting this place go. The greens are tore to shreds. Half mud half grass. The back nine the greens were punched but they never disclosed when booking. I wouldn’t be that mad if they actually took care of the greens otherwise. Atrocious
Settlers Golf Course
The layout of this golf course has made it one of my favorites in the Fox Valley area.
So much potential
Fun course to play- just seems it opened too early after the renovations. everything is mowed, and trimmed well, but just needs some love and roots to grow.
At only $40 it was all right to play
The course (fairways and greens)has numerous ground under Repair areas that are not marked and quite a few that are.
The Rough has a lot of bare and tight lies due to not much grass.
Renovation reject
Course in Very poor condition. Dry, terrible tee boxes and some worn out greens. Signature hole now gone after renovation. What a stupid thing to do. No concession stand, didn't even look like they watered anything.. Used to love playing here but now what a major disappointment !!!
Vistas
Best (twilight) sunset round in the area by far, pace of play has always been good here for me, feels like you may be waiting on groups but I think it’s just the way the course is set up….always play in under 4 hrs….some really fun holes w elevation changes ….staff is always accommodating -highly recommend especially at the twilight rate.
First Time Back After Remodel... What did they do?!?!
I have played Settler's Hill a lot prior to the remodel/redesign and I always knew what I was getting into as far as course conditions, pace of play, etc, etc. This being my first time back to see how the remodel/redesign went had me a little excited as I was hoping it would be an improvement. I was sadly mistaken. To begin with the pace of play. It was a Sunday afternoon and the course was pretty busy. There was a 3 some of newer golfers in front of my group and a twosome of new golfers in front of them! There was no ranger roaming the course to inform the newer golfers about pace of play and how they should pick up the pace. Next is the course conditions. Given that it hadn't rained in several days, there were a lot of places on the course where it was very soggy, even in higher elevated areas where you would think water would have drained well. The greens were badly beaten up from players not repairing their ball marks and every bunker we drove past had footprints littering them. Mind you there were racks available and nearby. Onto the redesign. Most of the holes remained the same. What was holes #2 is now hole 1, the downhill par 3 on the front nine was changed to a slight uphill par 3, the extreme downhill par 3 on the back was changed to a more level par 3, and the following par 5 tee boxes were elevated, and OG hole #1 is now 18. The worst part of the redesign is the layout to get from the clubhouse to the first tee and then from 18 green back to the clubhouse. You have to drive your cart all the around back by where original hole 2 to tee off, and on 18 drive all the way back through the parking lot to return the cart. If you were walking, its not ideal to start and end your round. The only real bright light of the day is that the cart girl was out and she was very active! She was driving around almost the entire round. This is great given that even after the remodel, they didn't have the sense to add water jugs around the course. Overall, I was disappointed in the remodel. For $65 on a Sunday, it was fine, but will not be a first choice in the future. Hopefully they make some additional improvements down the line, but I don't foresee that happening.
Nothing Redeeming
Greens were in horrible condition. Lots of ground under repair throughout the course. No beverage cart and no easy way from the course to get to clubhouse for food or beverages. No starter so no control over when people teed off. I really didn't find anything redeeming about Settlers Hill
Horrible greens
Never coming back to this course. The greens are absolutely horrible. Aeration in August is a crime and they should shut this course down until it is respectable again.
Nice course but can use some TLC
Needs better greens and tee boxes.
Not a bad course
Bring plenty of balls
A little rough
We played Settlers for the second time this year and it was a little disappointing. The tee boxes were rock hard and would accept a plastic tee and the greens had been aerated not too long ago and were slow and bumpy. Also the range was closed. It's a unique course meandering through the dump, forest and grasslands. However I don't like the changes they made a couple of years ago - you now have to drive 500 yds to get to the first tee which used to be hole #2 and you finish up just as far from the clubhouse on what used to be hole #1. They shortened the tough par 5 fifth hole and made it an impossible par 4. They replaced the old downhill par 3 16th overlooking the sheriff's
compound with an uninteresting flat par 3.
The plan is to build a new clubhouse by the new first hole, but no one knows when that will happen. They used to have some nice online deals, but it's a little pricey now. We'll still probably play it once a year since it's nearby, but not more than that.
Worst course I have ever played
Not just a few ball marks on greens. They look like a hail storm hit em….tee boxes are just as bad & the mesh for newly planted grass is coming up all through the fairways. This course was completely renovated a few years ago and opened too early. Now is beyond repair
Needs More
Course was in rough condition - greens were either aerated or beat up by a ton of unrepaired ball marks. Pace of play was decent. Sadly you pretty much have to bring your own food and beverage - no on-course water or food. We saw cart person twice - both times on the front nine - and very limited selection and only candy bars for food.
I love this course
Before the remodel, I was a member at settlers for 3 years. I played the course right after the remodel and most definitely wasn't ready to be open. It has improved every year, and yesterday I was really impressed. Any issues they have are being addressed. . The greens were in really good shape and rolling really well. It's a beautiful course and I recommend it to anyone!
