Settler's Hill Golf Course
About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Terrible shape
Course was closed all last year due to renovations- they ruined what was a fun course with horrible redesign holes- course was in horrible shape which should never be the case this early in the season- fairways were a mess- tee boxes were terrible- sadly what was a nice fun course is an absolute disappointment- most likely will not return
Same old Course
You cannot tell the course was really redone at all. Whole number one is now the old number two, and whole number 18 is the old number one. Doesn’t really make sense.. there’s still a lot of their areas of dirt. Not worth $65. At least the pace of play was good.
Formerly ok course made worse by renovation
Prior to renovations, this course was "ok" - it wasnt perfect but wasnt terrible either. When I heard they were closing it for a year or two for renovations, I was excited it would go from "ok" to abover average. I finally golfed it post-renovations yesterday, and to say I was dissapointed would be an understatement. 85% of the course layout is unchanged, except for the fact that the conditions of the course are worse than before. The other 15% of the course that was changed were changes for the worse. Some of the changes seemed like they were made just to say that things were changed but for no logical reason (for example the former 1st hole is now the 18th, requiring you to go 400 yards away from the clubhouse and then drive back). I just dont get it - what were they hoping to accomplish with this renovation?
Worst conditioned course I have ever played
I can’t even put into words how bad the condition of this course are. There is no rough around the greens, it’s all hard pan, the fairways are thinned out and weeds growing on them. The greens are bumpy, the new design has fairway runoff’s around some of the greens, but it mud in most places. The conditions of this course were never the best, but it’s worse than I can ever remember. Not even worth 30 dollars a round.
Slow play
The course was in good shape, they changed the layout.
It was a 5 hour round, waiting on almost every hole, no rangers to be found anywhere on the course
Still growing in
This course is still growing in after all the construction from the last two years. It’s a great track but still needs a little time to become excellent.
Fairways and Greens
The greens were great. The fairways, rough and tee boxes were in bad shape. The course lay out is great, fair but tough.
Nice new layout
Greens are great! Lots of elevation changes with challenging fairways. The renovation on the course is great and pace of play was amazing. Made contact with Tom prior to our round as rain was threatening, he assured that we would have a good experience and made true on his words. Definitely recommend playing at Settlers Hill! Thanks again!
Nice, cheap course
Well done course. Could use some maintenance but overall a fun course to play and has plenty of challenging holes.
Terrible renovations
Disappointed in the course. Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone worst course conditions I have ever seen. One of the most disappointing courses in the Chicagoland Arena. Greg Martin should never renovate a course ever again, he clearly does not know golf at all. Settler’s Hill used to be a top tier course, now it’s a dump (literally).
This course has great features
This course layout is fun but the conditions of the fairways and tee boxes etc were downright horrible since reopening. I can only hope they get better as this used to be one of my favorite courses.
Don't Waste Your Money! Course in Terrible Condition
I have played Settler's Hill for many years and have usually enjoyed the uniqueness of the course. Last year, they supposedly invested in an irrigation system and they were supposed to build a new clubhouse. Well the clubhouse hasn't happened and they apparently aren't watering the course. You needed a jack hammer to get your tee into the ground. The fairways were like concrete and had sections throughout the course where the grass (if you want to call it that) was almost non existent. The greens also were like putting on ice and again hard as a rock. The course is beat up, which is not usual for early spring. They also lacked a beverage cart, a halfway house and restrooms on the course. I won't be returning to this course until improvements are made. That is a shame because it previously was a fun course to play.
Kane county gem
Love the layout, fantastic feel of being in a preserve and prairie environment. Hoping the course conditions improve as the season goes on
Course Conditions
Course was in poor shape and the new greens were more sand than grass, will not play there again until 2024 at the earliest,
