Settler's Hill Golf Course
About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Wait wait
Maybe the future layout in 3/4 years but now is not the time to play there in beginning of development… rocks , divots , mesh , greens rough just disappointed
Poor grass, bad greens , needs about 2 years unless they water and fertilizer
Things are confusing, with changing hole #1 to hole #18 before the new club house is ready seems dumb. Hole #15 has lost all appeal was a down extreme par 3, not anymore. The next hole new #16 par 5 , tee box reconfigure is ok however after your tee shot, setting up for your 2nd shot, people are hitting there tee off shots into you because there's a blind spot in the fairways, they need a Bell to ring when it's clear, adding signs at the teebox to be aware of players below is a must
New settlers hill
This course was closed for a few years for a redesign but I don’t like the changes they removed two down hill par 3s and made boring simple par 3’s in their place not sure why? Maybe to save on maintenance? The greens we bumping and slow but it’s early in the year so a hope that will improve.
They have two shorter Par 4 ‘s with down hill tee shots you are blind on the tee to those in front of you I was almost hit in both holes. They need to have a bell to ring to let the group on the tee know you are clear or someone will get hurt here
Not a fan of the changes
Enjoyed this course previously. But not a fan of the changes. Switching 18 & 1 means 17&18 are great but 1 is uninteresting. Also means that 1 is hard to find and like a half mile from the clubhouse. Then the course never gets near it again. There was no water or refreshments available in any way after you tee off. Was severely dehydrated but end of the round. I'm sure this will improve with a new clubhouse whenever that's done, but the routing shouldn't have been changed before that. What will NOT improve is they got rid of the amazing downhill part 3 on the back 9! It was their signature hole in my opinion. I see no reason to ever go back.
Not playable
Played Saturday, April 8th. Worst conditions I have ever seen especially for a Saturday. Not ready for primetime. Not sure why it was closed for 1 1/2 years. Not as good. Who made those decisions? I submitted a complaint. I'll report back. Did I mention the greens? OMG
A good bang for the buck after work.
I’ve never played this place before the redesign, but based on past reviews, it seems like course quality is still of dire need. Staff was extremely friendly, pro shop guy gave us a great layout of the course. Overall layout is a great for the area, plenty of blind tee shots if you’ve never played before, but pretty fair. For April, hard as a rock and the fairways already look burnt out with “cart path only”? And the greens…if anything at all PLEASE ROLL THEM. It was Mt. Everest out there. I like this course for a nice after work round, got 18 holes in 2.5 hours at 5 is perfect this time of year. With some irrigation help and greens being majorly tended to, it has potential. Hopefully the added practice area will be a nice bonus for the buck.
Open, but not ready for play
Played our first round of the year on a beautiful sunny 69 degree day. The weather was perfect, but can't say the same about the course. It was cart path only as the low spots were still mush. The greens were lumpy and slow. I'm not a fan of the new layout. The old severely downhill fun to play 16th hole par 3 has been replaced by an uninteresting flat par 3. The old par 5 5th hole has been slightly shortened into an impossible par 4. You never get near the clubhouse until the 17th hole (formerly the 18th). The driving range isn''t open yet, and the new clubhouse won;t open for a couple of years . They added a nice 3 hole practice area, but they charge $7 tu use it. The one nice change is anew putting green which replaces the worst putting green in the Chicago area. The normal $45 weekday rate is highway robbery at this time, and our $34 GolfNow rate was no bargain. Hold off a couple of weeks before playing here.
Great but greens need to be rolled out
Greens very lumpy, need to be rolled out and would get a 5/5 from me. Everything else in great shape but it’s early in the season so understandable
Disappointed
I realize the changes being made are still ongoing but charging $55 for a course that’s in terrible condition is a bit ridiculous. Also, they removed the best par 3 on the course. Not sure why, but that was disappointing!
Played April 7 2023
When i played, the course had not been Maintained in anyway since the year before. Because of attempted repairs to the Fairways they probably wont be mowing them for a couple weeks The greens were long, bumpy and very slow. the bunkers Like every other area were un maintained. Its to bad courses dont warn you in any way before saying they are open for the year and ready to play
Early season tough conditions
It's April 3rd and the course is not ready to play. There were no tee markers out. Also the greens were not cut or rolled since last year.
.
Coarse review
They are all remodeling. Very good design.
But all course condition is so bad.
No maintenance. It’s much better than before design if maintenance good. This course is perfect
too slow...
waited on just about every hole...no ranger pushing slow players... close to a five hour round...course still needs time to mature from its renovation, as the grounds were pretty rough in many areas (fairways and greens)...I do like the new layout and have always enjoyed the course ...will look forward to next year...
Poor flow hole to hole
Front 9 is laid out nice, back 9 has too many 300 yard holes. Seems like they were squeezed in. This course had a complete remodel so the fairway and greens need more time to mature. Poor clubhouse amenities and the 18th hole takes you away from the club house, feels strange, part of the flow issues. Feels like there should be a clubhouse built in between the 1st and 18th greens, maybe that’s the long range plans.
