White Deer Run Golf Course
About
Situated on the Cuneo Estate in Vernon Hills, White Deer Run Golf Club has a beautiful landscape dotted with sparkling lakes. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, meaning there are some uneven lies and the occasional blind shot in store for you. There are not many trees but numerous bunkers lurk beside the greens and, of course, water is a pretty prominent presence throughout the golf course. Due to the plentiful and strategically placed hazards, the course puts a premium on accuracy. The layout is challenging but fair and it is also player friendly enough for beginners, offering ample room off of the tees. White Deer Run Golf Club's design contributes greatly to the course's playability, but that is also partly due to the immaculately manicured fairways and fast, well conditioned greens.

Very enjoyable round
Only complaint that there was no ranger and us as a twosome had to wait a long time on every hole for a very slow foursome in front of us and would not let us pass.
A gem!
The course is in outstanding shape from tees through the greens. The carts have gps with flyover views and restaurant capability. The will slow you down on any hilly decline and will also keep you away from the homes by slowing down and warning you. There is a nice driving range as well as a great putting and chipping area.
Great Shape, Plays Difficult from Gold Tees
Course was in great shape. They had sanded the greens as part of maintenance which made them very fast. Was not very crowded and got finished in under 4 hours starting at 11:15am. Always challenging and great variety of holes. Highly recommend.
Not worth the price
Staff was rude, bar was closed (Wedding), course was in rough shape. Would not pay $89 for this course. Played 8 years ago and was a gem, not anymore.
Rough staff course needs up keeping
Played 8 years ago and was a gem. Now loosing is beauty. Bunkers not taken care of, Some tee boxes in rough shape. This is all base on that they charge 89.00 per person. Not worth that price. Maybe 50 to 55.
Decent course. Not for walkers.
WDR tries hard to be a good course. The positives: the hole layouts are okay if a bit mundane in spots. The par threes are very good. Excellent selection of tee boxes allowing many options for distances. The greens are well above average in layout though they need a touch more maintenance.
The negatives: It is NOT a course for walkers like us. Some tees are quarter miles from the prior green. The overall design takes views of houses into consideration rather than the course itself. THERE IS ALMOST NO DRINKING WATER ON THE COURSE. If you don't stock up, you're out of luck. Pro shop service was good but the Starters had almost no idea what was happening.
Great possibilities for this course but it needs tighter management of customer service.
Sunday Outing = Slow Play, Beat-up Greens and No Kitchen Service
Having played the course before I expected to have a better experience than we did Sunday. Play was slow, the greens were slow and bumpy and the kitchen was closed altogether.
The likely cause of all these issues was a golf outing held earlier in the day. But, no mention of the outing was presented on the WDR web site. Would have been nice to know.
Golf course design is subjective and I do enjoy playing WDR. There are a good number of solid golf holes here. The condition of the course is normally very good. I'll be back to give them another chance.
Tough greens
Forgot how nice this course really is. The greens from above the hole will challenge your putting skills. Have some outstanding par 3s . And 5s go play this course and for sure get the best prices on golfnow
Had not played the course in 12 years. Enjoyed playing it as much as then.
Well maintained. Tough rough. Long holes and well bunkered greens. Fun track.
Good mix of holes and a lot of risk vs. reward.
A lot of placement golf. Many of the holes you need to keep the driver in the bag. Overall a great course in great condition. Only condition downside is that someone a few groups ahead of us was wearing metal spikes. Bad spike marks on every green.
Great course very challenging
Great course a bit pricey but worth a spin. Very nice and challenging.
A fair but also challenging
Always enjoy playing here. Course is a overtime of mine. Also kudos to the GPS system. Best I've seen so far
Tough course
Fast greens, tough pin placements, thick rough. Very challenging.
great course
the best gps for golfer everything about the course was great
Starter Issues
Starter was weak. Appeared confused. Sent 2 twosomes out in front of our group without matching them up. Play was slow and no sign of ranger. Course was in very good shape.
GREAT COURSE
COURSE WAS IN GREAT CONDITION ,FRONT SIDE GREENS SANDY STILL ROLLED GOOD . NO PERSON CLEANED CLUBS AFTER ROUND
Great pace of play!
I played at 1:30p on a Sunday, was completed in 4 hours flat. The starter was friendly and the course was maintained in great condition. My only issue was at times the Gold tees appeared to be at the championship tees! This made the course extremely challenging. I was happy to get out with a score in the 80s. And the greens were soft yet quick which was a treat considering the wacky weather and my recent rounds playing higher end courses that either player like sidewalks or were overly slow.
Nice course, well maintained.
Nice course. Pace of play was good. Not a lot of golfers on a beautiful day, might indicate that the fees are pricey. Course was in good shape. Greens well maintained. Rough was long off the greens making missed approach shots a real penalty. Paid $69 on a Sunday with Golf Now, normally $89. Price is in-line with similar maintained courses in Chicago, however course was pretty empty that day.
Always a great time at WDR
WDR is a wonderful course, there are some very fun and challenging holes and then there is hole no. 9 which is a terrible hole. Overall I enjoy playing there and due to it's proximity it remains a staple in my rotation. The course was in very good shape, greens were fast and rolled true. The bunkers, however, are as a whole in bad shape...most of the greenside bunkers were ok but many fairway and some just off the green were basically gravel, yes the consistancy of the sand was that of gravel with small rocks throughout and in one fw bunker I was in there was many large rocks that would've damaged even a Ping club. The staff in the shop and at the range are always great and very friendly which was no different today.
If you love your driver, this is the course for you!
They are not lying when they say the course is long. Your driver is your friend on this course along with the friendly fairways. The greens are red hot and play true. This is definitely a course you need to experience.
