6 hour round
We had the third or fourth tee time out after an outing finished. Essentially course was wide open. The first 4 holes took 1.5 hrs. Started was rude on first tee. Pushing everyone to hurry up. Yet no where to go. First group out holding up everyone and staff did nothing about it. The course is a challenging. layout with lots of water and semi blind tee shots. That’s fine except no gps in course or course map on score card. Sometimes no idea where to hit. When target golf is a premium it helps to know what the target is. Given other options in the area for similar cost and same or better conditions and inexcusable pace of play doubt I will be back any time soon
Very nice but tough course!
Great time at Arboretum! Fortunately, I was playing ‘well’ (as a 17 handicap), or else I would have been VERY frustrated with this course. Plan on bringing lots of balls!
Nice round, but ‘sand’ traps
Had a good round with my boys. Good pace, greens in great shape and really appreciate having water available throughout the round. Most courses don’t provide that any more. Only knock is the sand traps. Some were ok, but many were hard/dirt/mud. Will be back, when we can get a good price on Golf Pass.
PACE OF PLAY NO DRIVING RANGE
The course is challenging. We started at 2:20 and didn't get done until 7:20. Waited a long time on every hole. Never could get into any flow. I wasn't playing well but the pace of play was so bad the Marshall had us go as a 5 some and we still were waiting. Beautiful course and the food is excellent.
Unfriendly staff and poor course conditions
Multiple issues that our group did not appreciate and we are not overly picky with where we play.
1. Starter was rude and overbearing regarding the course and rules and delivery.
2. Ranger came up to us to tell us to make sure our pace of play was good and we were teeing off on 2nd hole after a wait. The starter clearly covered this already and we had nowhere to go.
3. No GPS, which is fine. So asked if sprinklers were marked and was told “most”. It’s far less than most and I’m talking 150 yards and in, rarely labeled making distance difficult. Ironic for a place harping on pace of play.
4. Note in cart said looking for golf balls is 2 minute maximum 🤣 and par 3’s allow one tee shot per hole, again harping on pace of play.
5. The pace of play was stil relatively slow despite all the pressure and aggressiveness regarding pace of play.
6. Restaurant/bar not open on Sunday morning early for breakfast or drinks? Why?
7. No bartender or server at turn, had to wait for someone from another area to show up. Again, ironic for a place focused on pace of play.
8. Course not well kept. And gimmicky ways to try to make it more difficult.
The experience was not good and disappointing. Between the staffs treatment of the guests and the course layout and condition overall just not a good experience. Pace of play is important, without a doubt. But threatening people and warning them over and over when there is a wait on most holes anyways is bizarre.
Rain Check but Returning!
Great course for being park district owned. Unfortunately only got 9 in due to weather but will be returning for the rain check. Challenging layout where driver is taken out of play frequently. Plenty of water but if you play smart you can avoid it. Difficult greens with a lot of undulation. Lengthy par 3s into some Sunday pin locations. Well maintained and pace of play was decent. Could see it getting busy on a day where the weather is great. Clubhouse is great, little odd to have a sushi restaurant but they also have a full clubhouse menu with dogs and clubs on the menu. No driving range but there virtually bays I believe. For the price I would have liked to see a little more updated carts but can’t complain. For Chicago public golf this is a gem, 8/10 compared to other spots.
Great value for the money!
My son and I enjoyed playing this course. The green fees were only $45 per person with a cart at 3:45pm on a Thursday. The course was in very good condition. The starter was very friendly. We were new to the course so he gave us a nice detailed booklet that described each hole with detailed diagrams of each hole with distances from the tee to water, bunkers, fairway, etc… We will definitely play here again! Overall, it was great value for the money!
Very challenging with lots of water
Course was in great shape, group ahead of us was slow but the ranger pushed them.
