Nice course
Nicely maintained tee boxes and fairways...good value
Needs to put money in course
River oaks could be a nice track but whoever owns it doesn’t put any money in making it great. It doesnt drain well. The tee boxes and bunkers could use a lot of help. They only good thing about the course it that it’s affordable!
Horrible management
Reserved a Tee Time on golf now and when we showed up no one was there. There were a few other groups and we all decided to play and settle up when someone showed up. Evidently the manager showed up while we were on 3 at noon and called the cops on us who wanted to write us trespassing tickets. Terrible management
River Oaks is Back!
Played on 9-26, course is back to being in good shape. Greens are good, fairways mowed short and the rough is fair, you wont loae balls in the rough line at Harborside and Calumet CC.
Staff has been working hard on the course conditions and it shows. This a good course, take advantage of the good price before it gets too busy again!!
Exceeded Expectations
Decided to golf a little later in the week and this was the only course available with tee times. The cost was only $30, so I was not expecting much. While the amenities leave much to be desired, the course itself was not bad and provided some challenging layouts. If you are looking for an easy, cheap 18, this is the place to come. I will definitely be back.
Goat field
Have been playing here since early 80s. Never seen it in this bad of shape. Fairways rock hard, crusted over with dry mud, clover. Sand traps have only gravel and weeds. No one here on a beautiful Saturday and I can see why. Won’t be back for awhile. What a shame
Good deal
I think this course was a good buy, for the deal on golf now and it was very affordable, I really like the course variety, there is a lot of challenge throughout the entire course, and not just the front nine or the back nine, overall will keep coming back again and again.
Close to Unplayable
I've played this course many times throughout the years and have generally found it to be in decent shape, and good value for the money spent. Now I realize that we have suffered through a very wet spring and course conditions everywhere are not what they should be, but our round yesterday was awful. If you did not hit your ball on the fairway, the rough was 3 feet in length and unplayable. Finding your ball took forever, slowing play drastically. In our estimation, many areas of the golf course had never been cut at all yet this season! In short, we will avoid returning this year. One more thing: The greens were decent, but there were numerous divot holes that needed to be repaired on every green. This is not the course's fault, but the people who play there are indifferent to taking care of the course.
In short, avoid at all costs until the grass gets cut.
Great for the money...
Greatest course ever? No
For $20 with a cart? Yep... I’d do it again and again...
River Oaks Golf - Tee Area Hard - Fairways Barren
I hadn't played this course in 20 years. I remembered it as a nice course to play . . . 20 years ago. Well, that's not what I found out in the present. There were a number of tee areas that were so hard you need a hammer to get the tee in the ground. I broke multiple tees. The fairways are hard and barren of any real grass as they are thin and unwatered it appears. The ball runs forever is the only advantage from the sparse thin fairways. The staff was very nice was the only plus (check in and starter specifically). As you can tell, it will likely be another 20 years before I return.
The course is not maintained well
Fairways and tee boxes are very dry! Could have used a hammer on some of the tee boxes. Got a lot of run on the ball in the fairways, unfortunately I got a lot of weird bounces that too some shots into one of the many ponds on the course. Also there were a lot of geese everywhere on the course and a lot of goose poop, even on the greens! Won't go back, until it rains.
Short but Sporty
Always liked River Oaks, just wish that the conditioning of the course could improve some. The course is rather short, but has enough trouble to keep any other than elite golfers honest.
Friendly staff
Always love to play this course each hole has its own character you will use all the clubs in you're bag. And you need to say high to all the staff.
Course is decent but had several golfers cut in ahead of us which greatly slowed down pace. It happened in front nine then again on back nine. Greatly disappointed. But learned a lesson
Hi Jim, thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback about your round. You are correct, we are currently experiencing the wettest spring in the last 15 years. Over the past 2 weeks we have received just over 5 inches of rain. In addition, some of our course rubs shoulders with the Calumet River. The river is prone to flooding and exacerbates the rainfall. It is not safe for us to mow when the ground is very saturated with water. Believe us when we say that we are as anxious to get the rough mowed as you are. We are very sorry to hear your round wasn’t enjoyable as anticipated. We would really like the chance to chat with you directly to understand a bit more so we can improve upon your next experience.
