Challenging enough
Course is challenging enough on some holes to make for interesting play.
Decent course for the money
This course is a great place to play for beginner to moderate golfers. There wasn't a lot of bunkers or water hazards and it is open enough to hit a stray shot or two and not lose a dozen golf balls. The back nine had some tight fairways on short holes to make it more challenging and overall is not a bad place to play. The length of the course is great for someone who doesn't hit the "long ball".
Nice front nine, disappointing back nine, extremely slow
The pace of play was terrible - the round took 6 hours to finish with carts. The holes on the back 9 were quite terrible - much less visually appealing than the front 9 and all the holes on the back were very narrow. Combining the stop start nature of the play with this narrowness made it very hard to get in any kind of rhythm or score well.
for the price it was a good course
The course is not maintained great. The fairways are long and the sand is terrible. But the greens are in decent shape.
I went there for a quick round since i had a few hours to kill in the afternoon. I ended up pairing up with a guy i met there.
It's ok for the price!
The staff was very nice and they were happy to help with getting things ready. The course was very wet and muddy. Some areas were not accessible due to the flooding.
Course is looking great
Played on a windy but warm day and the course was playing good. Not much roll if any due to soft fairways. Greens look really good and were soft. Putts rolling smooth. No debris in the fairway or greens and pace of play was good for it to be a busy day.
Muni golf
Went off with golf buddy's as a 3 some the course was in decent shape for this late in the season. River oaks finally has new golf carts hooray! the Fairways were good shape with the exception of hole# 4. There is always casual water on that hole due to the pond on your right. The green were running very slow due to the excessive moisture they were soggy with the exception of hole #16 which ran average.
Nice place
Very friendly staff nice course sand traps could use face lift otherwise good for the price.
River Oaks
The staff was quite friendly and helpful. The course condition was slightly better than expected for a county course that had received a few inches of rain in the previous 24 hours. My only issue with River Oaks is the course design. There is no need to hit driver on any hole, including the par 5's.
Much water and dead trees
One of my best rounds of the year
River oaks
The manager pompous and arrogant
Five and a half hour round totally could have been
avoided if he didn't start everyone
on number 10 which was a par three
Should have staggered start times on 1 and 10
No maintenance in bunkers
The rate charged was worthy of having raked maintained bunkers. I can live with the standings rain water, but unraked bunkers is just SUBPAR.
Course with potential
Could be a really nice course with a few inexpensive improvements. 1) No room for a range, but a hitting net could be put up next to what is a pretty good putting area. 2) Greens could be a little faster. 3) A number of areas are subject to flooding. Many forest preserve courses are built on wetland areas. So the land is just performing as its supposed to. However, installation of some drainage structures would keep the fairways green instead of dead and muddy. PCB, or earthen tiles ow whatever excess inventory the district has on hand can be used since building codes probably do not apply. A backhoe, a little gravel and off they go. Money would be recovered in lower maintenance costs, more rounds payed for and less soil erosion.
A little wet
The course is by the river and it recently rained which made is very wet.
Above average public course
I play about three times a week and this time of year the leaves.on many courses make it difficult to locate your golf ball. I was plesently surprised to see that the staff at River Oaks did a great job of keeping the leaves off the fairway compared to other courses I've visited recently. Bravo!
Poor course avoid at all cost
The bunkers were hard clay from no raking, there was no ranger. We were a twosome and there was a foursome ahead of us but once did they offer to let us play through. Numerous holes had ground under repair.
