Old school Character.
I grew up playing this course in the 80/90s. But I just recently started playing it again. After the flood in like 2008 I had heard it had pretty much washed away. They lost a par 5 and replaced it with kind of a sad par 3 but besides that it’s a fun course with a lot of character and charm. Bring a spare ball or two, lots of woods and water but it’s worth a try.
Get What You Pay For
Some interesting tee shots for a shorter course, but you get what you pay for here. $50 with a cart is spot on for this course. The are a lot of massive bunkers and a decent amount of water throughout the course, but the conditions are fair or below average.
Over Booking With Carts
Ive been to river oaks a few different times and this time was the worst time yet. The course had no carts available which pushed everyone back an hour and a half plus. The starter was doing all he could but started getting a attitude when i started getting frustrated. Overall terrible experience and i would play this course again.
Greens Are Awesome
Considered the lack of rain in the area the course was in fantastic shape
This course is really a hidden gem this year. The entire course is in amazing shape. It's obvious it is being watered. Most courses in the area are like playing in concrete. Not this one. Great job River Oaks Staff.
Changes Needed Badly
Overall I have nothing against this course. It used to be a very nice course that is both challenging and beautiful. I love the great amounts of water it holds. My challenge is its current layout with the closing of Hole #12. It makes for a logistical and statistical nightmare....esp if you're using electronic technology to score and keep track of your golf game. Fix the bridge or contact the GPS apps to update your course (which is probably the more practical thing to do).
Until those changes occur, unfortunately I probably won't be back. And this is probably the closest course to my home.
I also don't understand why municipal courses charge extensively more than private or public courses do for golf carts ($18 vs $10 on average).
However the staff was extremely engaging and friendly but the course needs some TLC. A lot of unfixed divots in fairways. Overall I give it a 3 rating and that's being kind because the staff was so great.
I was amazed on the course condition since we haven't had any rain. Our was obvious the whole course is watered. Great job river Oaks
