Bang for your buck
Good practice course for every level, and probably the cheapest 18 in Chicago
The greens were in good shape but the fairways and the tee boxes were in pretty bad shape
Good beginner course
This course was in really good shape for this early in the season. So I have mixed feeling about this course…. Pros: pace of play the 4 times I’ve gone has been very fast! Our 3some last time out finished 18 holes in just over 3 hours. No sand traps! I can enjoy a round without worrying about getting caught in a nasty bunker. The course has a good mix of easy and challenging holes. The same goes for the greens. Some are pretty flat and others are on a steep slope. Average/beginner golfers can feel good about themselves because they can actually reach every green in regulation.
Cons- the course is short, so if you’re looking to crush 300+ yard drives don’t come here. Because the course is in a lower elevation if it rains the course gets flooded easily. Because of the flood hazard some tee boxes are artificial mats instead of actual grass.I think 14/18 can be played off of grass so that doesn’t bother me so much.
All things considered for the price this is a great course to get a quick round in.if you’re a good golfer you can reach a few of the par 4 greens with less than driver… which is nice. There’s also a couple tough par 3’s so it balances out
Perfect practice course
This course is great if you want to get out and practice your short game. There was only a couple of holes where you can actually pull out your driver. The downfall is the hitting mats throughout the course. Most tee boxes are a hitting mat which most golfers don’t want when they play. Your head does have to be on a swivel on the first couple holes and the last 3 because they are all on top of each other. Balls were constantly landing around us from other holes with no heads up.
Decent
The course is in great shape. I've played some Forest preserve courses that were in really bad condition so this was a pleasant surprise. With the exception of some of the greens, it was very flat and there isn't a single bunker on the entire course. I think if there was more work put into improving course design I think this would be a top notch forest preserve course. Greens were aerated and sanded which made putting a nightmare but at least they were upfront about it before I paid for a tee time so that was very appreciated.
Edgebrook GC
This is a great city course for an easy round and beginners. 18 holes but most are extremely easy. But set in a forest preserve and pleasant. Girlfriend is a new player and she can play without feeling completely out of place.
Pro shop is simple and they don't sell alcohol if that matters. So my stars are honest but I enjoy it for what it is.
Great for a Confidence Boost
Look, I'm not going to act like this course deserves any awards. The back tees are driving range mats on concrete, there isn't a single bunker on the course, most holes are dead straight, and the average Par 4 is 300 yards. But this course is usually in pretty good shape, and has the unique combination of being a full 18 hole track close to the city at a low price. Great place for average golfers to improve their game in a way that a driving range can't. Plus, since its so short (I call it a 'drive & chip'), even the novice golfer can occasionally walk away with a birdie or two. Personally, I love it for what it is without expecting it to be the same caliber as a real course.
