Nice course with a nice layout. Greens are smooth and fast. Great price on Tee Off. If I lived in the area I would play it often.

First time here and it is a beautiful course and everyone was very polite and helpful, especially Keith and I forgot the girl's name that was behind the bar but she was very helpful as well
Enjoyable round of golf
River Heights is is a much improved course over the past 2 years.. Many improvements have been made and it’s a fun place to play. The tee boxes need a little work but it’s in great shape right now. I want to thank Cindy (supervisor) in pro shop to allow me to play today earlier then my scheduled tee time to beat the storms that were expected. The staff is very friendly and understanding of your needs.
T boxes grass was longer then expected. But I truly like this course.
Improving
I enjoy playing this course at least once a week. I know what to expect as far as the condition of the course (better than last year) and the price is right. Hope they get the irrigation problems solved so the course can become what it once was.

Spend your money elsewhere
I’ve been playing this course occasionally for years, but got back into golf seriously last year. I played here multiple times per week, and haven’t had great experiences. The long haired guy who seems to run most things(whether he’s the manager or what), has always seemed kinda rude, and once charged me for 2 extra golfers and carts. When I came back in, he was unhelpful, told me to call the course some other time to get the park district guy. This could be an isolated incident, he could have been having a bad day, whatever. I get that. However, the overall experience here is not the greatest. This course has not made an effort to keep their greens, fairways, or tee boxes in good shape, and may greens have large dead spots. I’ve seen that they are doing some renovations, so maybe they are trying to better the course, but until they do, I’ll spend my money elsewhere.

Unbelievable bargain if you don't mind the drive
Saw this $11 hot deal in DeKalb and glad we gave it a try. This is a fun course with beautiful mature trees, lots of water hazards, prairie grass and several unique and challenging holes (especially the 6th hole par 4 and the 10th hole par 3). There was a t'storm the night before, so some of the traps had standing water and the fairways and rough had not been cut, but this was to be expected and didn't detract from the playability. The greens had some slope and were in great shape. There is no driving range and the putting green is not the best, but overall we were very pleased. The lady in the pro shop told me the rate didn't include the cart, but when I explained that the GolfNow ad showed the little cart icon, she gave us carts at no charge. We stopped at the turn for excellent fresh grilled brat's and a beer all at reasonable prices. The normal weekday senior rate is only $25 w/cart, which is still cheap. The course is very walkable as well. Don't be put off by the low price - it's worth the drive.
A good course being run down...
This course has several interesting holes and it is a shame it is being neglected so much. I saw marginal improvements since the last time I played here 3 weeks ago. Many greens have shown improvement,. Greens on 4, 5, 7 and 14 need major repairs. The Fairways on 14 and 17 are disaster areas.
