Disappointing
Just a few years ago, this was a great course to play. It is disappointing to see River Heights in it's current state.
The fairway grass is dead to the point of looking abandoned. Some of the greens are in poor condition, though it appears that the area around the greens has at least been watered regularly. The bridge to the 17th tee box is closed off; for how long I do not know. Noticed a lot of run down equipment all over the course.
The clubhouse has the look of a place about to close up shop. I really hope this isn't the case. River Heights offers some really unique hole layouts and can be challenging for golfers of all levels. Until recently, the course was well maintained. That doesn't appear to be the case at the present time. It's a shame.

Sad shape
Should be closed as it's in bad condition from tee to green.

Good price. Bad conditions.
The rough is just like grass in your backyard. Very difficult to hit out of. Greens have brown patches on them that have a major effect on the ball. Only $12 though

Burnt and dead
The majority of the greens are dead or burnt from the heat/conditions. Ball marks litter the green as well.

Great Bargain
We got a great deal on a tee time for three at Tee Off and the course was in good shape despite the dry weather recently. I recommend if you live close by play the course as your will enjoy it.
Great Value, Quick Play
The course was kept very well and the pace of play was really quick. The greens weren't in the greatest shape but they positioned the pins to avoid much of the brown grass. Really cheap and well worth the price!
Great 18 hole course
Course is drying up but still plays fairly. Greens on some holes have dead spots. I recommend this course to all the locals. You can't beat the value here at River Heights.
Very Well Maintained
As promised I returned to this course to play the full 18. Same conditions and this track is very well maintained by the DeKalb Park District. It's a really fun not too demanding golf course.....greens are in tremendous shape and have some nice slopes to them. Course suffers because the the back nine is a tad bizarre when you look at the scorecard. The 10th hole a 200 yard par 3 from the white tees and back almost plays as a dog leg. That's followed by another Par 3 and then a very short Par 4. Then rest of the back nine turns into a real golf course. We enjoyed our day and the folks in the clubhouse are welcoming. It's worth a play at least once or maybe twice a year and it's a very pleasant course with some nice routing and design features. Recommending because the condition/speed and maintenance of the putting surfaces were some of the best experienced all season.
