Old School Prairie Golf
Only got in the front nine due to weather but found this course to be in very good condition....really nice greens...some of the best all season....really smooth with good speed and it was playing hard/fast. The front nine is too tight/tree lined in some areas - 1st and 2nd holes expecially - fairly well designed for the time...and getting above the hole on this course it a no no.. Folks are very friendly and course is very well maintained....dirt sand traps basically.... I liked the vibe of the place and it's a quick drive out 88 to DeKalb from the Western Burbs. I'll return in the next few weeks to get in all 18 and I am looking forward to it. $30, 3.5/3.75 stars.
River Heights fun to play
Purchase of Golfnow t-time flawless. Course pretty challenging. Greens just sanded.
Improving conditions
I've played this course many times as a local resident and they are going the right way with upkeep. There are still a few ill advised tee boxes that really amount to nothing more than awkward closely mowed hills, but the removal of some poorly placed trees and the improvements in general conditioning have made this season better than recent years past.
Okay !
Over 1Hours drive is litttle bit far from my home.
Love it
For a public course this is awesome. It's taken care of well and I've never had a severe log jam.
The only concern is how it floods, especially hole 14. Regardless, I play here almost every week and don't get bored of it.
Watch out for outings
Read the last review. They pull this kind of stuff all the time. They sell times during outings and try to stuff you in. I play here all the time and like the course but pace of play is unpredictable and the staff does nothing to help it.
Bad Experience
This course is a very good value. However my group booked online for 1:40. When we got there we were told the was an outing, and we'd have to wait for the whole outing to tee off before us. When we finally got teed off the pace was extremely slow.
Fair and Friendly
I'd call this a "country" course if it weren't I the city of De Kalb. But it certainly has that feel. Not difficult. Not easy. Fair. Conditions are fine. Fairways mostly generous with more trees on back. But on the short tree-lined 5's, you only need to put it into play. Ten is tough par three @ +200.
I usually play solo during the week and play fast.
Friendly accommodating staff.
Price points.. $31 weekday and $36 weekends.
Did you consider the distance before driving there? Would you have the same comment for Hazeltine, Congressional, or Pebble Beach?
