9th hole cart path fairway Photo submitted by HOTSPOTTS on 05/09/2018
Tall grass on Fairways. Poor condition greens. Muddy fairway
By far the worst
Can't count how many balls I lost in the fairway. They need to cut the grass more.
What a joke
Upon arriving for my tee time that I booked at 4 pm on Tuesday 5/19 I was told that when I called to book it for Saturday at 9 am I really booked it for the day I called. Yes... I WAS TOLD WHAT I SAID BY A PERSON I DID NOT TALK TO WHEN I BOOKED. I was then told they would squeeze us in since we showed up. Huh??? Makes no sense whatsoever. In any case, I let it slide since I wanted to play....
Mistake on all parts. To say this is the worst course I’ve ever played is an insult to the worst courses out there. This is not a course. It’s a grass field where livestock should be roaming. Losing balls on fairways, knee high rough, and poor treatment by the staff who feel like lying to a customer is the best way to cover up their mistakes. And to charge 40 dollars??? Criminal.
Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy, let alone friends. I’d give it negative stars if possible.
This course should not be open
It’s criminal that this course can charge money to play. Absolutely terrible conditions and shouldn’t even be open. No fairways, 2 ft rough, awful greens. Don’t waste your time or Monday. We quit after 4 holes.
Terrible course. Completely ungroomed
We actually had a major problem with this course. There was no fairways only rough on every single hole. There was no good shot to be had. Even down the middle you'd go look for the ball and could not find it. We talked to a few other groups that were having the same exact problem. Very miserable front 9 we left after 9 holes because it was so hard to play here
Just Don’t Do It
This is the worst course I’ve ever played and frankly should be taken off of this app. There are no fairways, 4 inches of grass. You’ll lose balls you drive straight down the fairway because the grass is so long. It’s a goat pasture. I wouldn’t pay $15 to play this course. You better factor in the cost of a box of balls to your round because you’ll lose them. Unreal how little care.
This is the worst course I have ever played. I could take better care of the place with a push lawnmower. Even if you hit the ball in the “fairway” there is a good chance you aren’t going to find it the grass/weeds are so overgrown. I don’t think that I would play here again even if it were free.
Waste of Money
This is by far the worst course I have ever golfed. They shouldn’t even be allowed on the GolfNow app. To charge $40 to play in a cow pasture is robbery. There are no fairways, only rough. The grass is up to your ball even when tee’d up on the tee boxes. Greens....what greens? Terrible shape, ball bounces doesn’t roll. The owner of this course should be ashamed.
Hickory Hills
Course is normally a nice course. Today it was horrible. There were no fairways. Balls hot down the middle of the so called fairway were lost some of the times. If you hit it in to the rough, forget it.
Greens were half way decent.
They need to work on the course conditions before they allow people to play. It was like a cow pasture.
This could be a really nice course. Today it was full of water throughout. Should have considered not allowing people to play today like other courses.
Don’t do it!
My buddy and i decided to play this course despite the reviews. We figured people might be over exaggerating but they were not AT ALL. This course is not well kept. It’s sad because it is a really good course layout and has so much potential but they are not taking care of it. Not worth $40-60 per round. If they lowered cost to $20 i still might not even go back out. You could literally be nailing the fairway and still not find your ball because the grass is so high. Unbelievable! Don’t waste your money. The greens are super rough. Ball is bouncing instead of gliding smooth.
Course not mantained
Not worth the drive. The fairway is no different from the rough. Impossible to find balls even on good shots. The green doesn’t roll evenly.
The worst course I’ve ever played
I read the other reviews, didn’t think it could be as bad as they said. It is. There are no fairways or tee boxes, just rough and more rough. Weeds everywhere. A round here is maybe worth $5 and even then I’m not sure I would do it
Horribly kept course
There were no fairways, no tee boxes, terrible greens, and the weeds and long grass over took the rough and playable areas. Myself and my friend lost 2 balls that were hit in the middle of the "fairway". Don't waste your money!
Hickory Hills
Course is in much better shape than in years past. Good value for the money...
Fine if you come with the right expectations
It could be better maintained, but if you‘re just an ok golfer and come with the right expectations, you will have a good time.
Ok, so I came when they first opened during Covid-19 (early May) because this was the only course with a early tee time. Let’s start with the good: (1) the greens were really well taken care of (not just public course good, just generally good); (2) the course is built for double digit handicappers, so if you’re looking for lots of water and sand traps, go elsewhere.
The not so good: the grass can definitely get long and the earlier comments about losing your balls is true. This course gets a lot of rain and is hilly with lots of trees, so if they fall behind with maintenance, I’m sure it can get rough quick. Their fairways seemed to be as long as the first cut rough at very nice courses, and their rough is rough rough, so yes there are times where you hit it middle of the fairway and struggle to find it, or hit it in the rough expecting to find it and can’t. The grounds crew was out when I arrived, so the course may get better as the summer continues. Be good about helping each other track your shots, keep the Pro-V1Xs in the bag, and if you’re really worried, set a rule for the round with the group to be generous with free drops for balls that shouldn’t have been lost.
TLDR: Really good greens; long grass with lost balls; good for double handicapped golfers trying to get some reps or good golfers desperate for a tee time.
Things can only improve?...
This course could be fun and enjoyable.,but the day we played the course was in horrible shape. The fairways were an extension of the rough, long and unmanicured. The greens were bumpy and in many places were dirt. Forget about the sand traps they also were in horrible shape. Of course during these CoVid-19 era just being out playing golf was a joy, but com on they still charged us $35 (twilight hours) and $10 for a gas cart that looked as dirty and unsanitized as ever. While the staff was cordial and willing to assist us this course needs a huge clean up effort. I cannot recommend this course and won’t be going back especially since there are so many other good courses in the western suburbs.. To pay these fees for a product in such bad shape makes me disappointed and feel like I was taken. I rate Hickory Hills one star.
Classic Course: Needs a trim
The course started out looking great. It was green and lush with the trees just starting to green up. I rushed to to the tee loser end up a bit and hit my first tee shot. Not bad for no warmup. Then I got to my ball. The rough was deep (no problem) but also very unkempt with clumps of higher and lower grass and lots or mud or water. The fairways had been erratically cut and we’re always deep enough to hide a ball. Again OK it is spring golf. Then the greens they were deadly slow and patchy with bare spots and lumpy areas.
While I loved the layout and the promise of some incredibly hard greens, the condition rendered this only a nice walk to get out of the time locked in at home.
Please take care of this course, it has so much to offer
