Great value
Old course with small greens. Played longer than the yardage. Good condition considering all the rain we have had. Played in 3 hours and 15 minutes as a twosome
Great course for the money!
Fairly straight forward course. Course is in great shape.. I played the white course which has no water and most fairways are straight. The red course is very challenging with lots of water.
Great course for the money..
Positive Place
Reasonable track for the price. Fairways were in above average shape, and the greens were in good shape. Due the rains of late the rough areas were not draining well. Overall the course rates well.
This course in good condition
Fairly easy course but in good condition. Fairways and rough very nice, greens smooth but slow. Good value for the money.
DONT PLAY HERE!
My advice is that you do not play here.
There are several reasons why:
1. NO WHERE TO PARK. I parked in a grass lot near the front gate. When I asked the pro shop employee (Austin was his name) he said "we are busy and you are lucky you got a spot!" Thats not a good start to my round!
2. The carts are terrible. They look like they are from 1970. Dirty, slow, (mine barely started) a lot of wear and tear.
3. The golf course is not worth it! I met the Superintendent Keith. WOW this guy likes to talk and thinks highly of himself. He kept telling me how great the course was but to be honest, it is short, easy, terrible tee boxes and terrible bunkers. He told me that they are re-doing the bunkers but have only done 4. I was in one of the new bunkers…what a joke! There was about 15-inches of sand in it! Hey Keith…Learn to do your job. And learn to walk away and NOT bother customers like you are a fan of their golf swing.
4. the food is terrible! I ordered a 1/2 cooked hotdog, a warm Gatorade. (i asked the employee at the 1/2 way house why it was warm. Her response was: "thats what you wanted so don't complain.") REALLY!!!???!!
5. At the end of my round I met one of the owners. Bill I think. I thought he was a homeless man eating in the bar & grill. WOW…..I told him about my round and what I felt of the course and he just walked a way and said (I think he said this walking way) "I can't please everyone."
Long story short….stay way from this place. They should bulldoze the place and make it houses because the people running it don't know what they are doing! I'd rather hit golf balls in a park somewhere instead of playing here again!
Pace of play was too slow
The pace of play was over 5 hours for a round. The golf ranger was not taking any action to move the groups ahead of us. The direct group in front of us was not being considerate once they completed play on a hole. Overall will avoid this course given the ridiculous pace of play.
Nice place
I thought it was a good value for thr reduced fee offered on GolfNow. Two groups of fossils let me play through and I paired up to finish 18 in less than 4 hours.
Great for the price
Great course for the price. Nothing special about the course, but it was in pretty good shape and we had a great time. Some balls did disappear in the rough so make sure you keep a close eye on your drive if its not headed for the fairway.
Great Course!
Love this course and you can't beat the price. The wait was shorter on the red course so they sent us off there instead of the white. The course was in great shape. It was a long round since we had some slower golfers in front of us around 4:30 total but that doesn't bother me. My 1 big complaint is the lack of yardage marking throughout the course. The at least need something on the par 3s that shows the yardage as the card was inaccurate (I'm sure due to moving tee boxes).
The course was always better then now
I played on the red side To much growth off the fairways lost balls are forever gone when just off the fairway. There was no fresh drinking water just warm water which may have been there from the day before. The concession stand close at the turn. Which at 1pm it should open. The grounds keepers were very rude. As I was leaving I looked over the white course it appears to be in better shape. But I will not return.
Nice Course
The course was in good shape. Small greens, wide fairways. Pace of play was outstanding. Staff was very polite and professional.
Great condition
They have done a lot of work replacing trees, and keeping the courses in great shape.Sand traps have not completely dried out yet.
Food & drinks are always great and staff treat you like family
First round of the year.
The course was in pretty good shape for being the beginning of the season. Everything should get better at the weather warms. Had a great time.
ok for the price
staff is not friendly and carts are not very nice old and used and no windshield. course, opening week as expected, not in great shape but you could at least pump the water out of the sand traps if you want to call dirt sand mix traps
poor course condirion
There is no yardage signal. The distance between holes are very close.
nice and peaceful
a good Hideaway, nice place to golf. Scenic locale.
Fun Course
The golf course was in very good shape , the greens were nice. The course is not very long but presents a challenge none the less and I had no complaints. It give you the option of working the ball of the tee . The staff was nice and I may have an outing there in the spring.
A Nice Place to Play
A lot of work is being done to better the course for next year, e.g. tree cutting, drainage improvements, sand trap rebuilding.
It's fall and the leaves are abundant, the crew is doing the best they can to keep up with it. If you stay in/near the fairways you are pretty safe.
Fall rates are fantastic.
3.25 stars White Course in nice shape
The White Course at Gleneagles is always a nice old school test with a lot of hills and dales. Greens were in great shape and extremely fast.....but too quick for a few of the flag positions which were borderline unfair given the slope some of these greens have (mainly from back to front) where if you weren't putting dead up hill your ball dribbled away from the hole by 4 feet.....significantly contributing to slow play for novice to below average players. Course maintained as well as can be expected. Many of the fairways or better termed "short grass" are pretty tiny targets. Course always suffers from slow play and as anticipated the back nine pace slowed to a crawl. Perhaps it was the late season nice weather but there were several groups in front of us playing the tips that had no business doing so. 3.25 stars downgrading to 3 stars because I can't remember a time at Gleneagles where pace of play wasn't an issue.
Solid place to play.
Course in good shape except a few bunkers but there had been rain the previous day. Greens in really nice shape. Staff friendly and helpful. Stayed for a beer but no food. The cost of the round was a nice surprise. In addition, there were several groups of African American men which was refreshing in what is otherwise a very segregated Chicago golf scene.
