Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

worth 80 min drive for the island hole!
the course is five star. will be back for sure and will be with friends to come!
Top 5 course
I would honestly rank the layout as my favorite I have ever played. Rainy day so hardly anyone on the course. Staff was friendly. (Put gps on your carts!)
Once Great Now A Worn Down Beaten Dog
The management should be ashamed - this place used to be great, with a great Pete Dye layout and tough greens. Now it is falling apart and not being maintained. Tee boxes are filled with divots from last season, cart paths are crumbling, the rough is full of dandelions and tall weeds and dead trees and the greens were aerated again but in bad condition. Save your $ and avoid...this place is not worth the $80
So So
Not the course of ;old. Tee boxes are all chopped up. Still a Pete Dye but needs better maintenance
A Second Play at RF already this season
See my March 2021 review. RF is in really decent shape and the greens are rolling true. Highly recommend....RF is playing better than Mistwood for half the price! $40 senior rate during the week is an excellent value/price point. Plan on returning several times this season.
Great Day at RF
Hard to beat $40 twilight at Ruffled Feathers! Beautiful layout. Perfect weather. It’s not the high end experience it used to be 20 years ago as their facilities are dated and the grounds are a bit rundown with dirt patches and muddy sand traps. IMO, the $40 price tag is appropriate. This Pete Dye gem that has stood up over the years however and I will continue to come back here as long as the price is right. BTW - the starter and staff couldn’t be nicer! Fantastic experience all around! Thank you!
A diamond in the golf cradle of Chicago's southwest suburbs
Loved the experience at Ruffled ! What a round ... this Pete Dye designed course is quite a challenge from the tips (back 9 especially). And compared to last year, the course is in far better shape. Friendly, accommodating staff. Food is next level (Prime rib dinner April 2021). Couldn't ask for a better time.
Didn’t live up to the hype.
So been wanting to play this course for some time. Well let me tell definitely was not worth the wait. When you walk into the clubhouse you think this is going to be great. The staff was very friendly and informative. The course however is not in great shape. I know we are early in the year but the condition is mediocre at best. The traps are complete crap. . Don’t think they have been touched since last year. The guy at check in stayed the greens are lightning fast. More like Velcro fast. Then at the turn you have to wait about 20 minutes for a $13 hotdog and fries that taste like nasty fish. Had real high hopes for this course however it fell way shorts f expectations. Won’t be back.
Great Course!!
Short in terms of yardage but you have to be extremely accurate or you will pay the price. Bunkers or water in play in probably every hole. Really enjoyed my time at the course even though I donated a few Pro-V’s I would definitely enjoy coming back to donate some more.
Nice day at Ruffled Feathers
Course was in good condition coming out of the winter. A few bare spots on the greens but they rolled well for early in the season. Pace of play was good for a weekend and Ranger kept our group informed on slow spots. Enjoyable round!
Really nice shape for early season
Cart path only. RF's greens were excellent. Proper speed and rolling out......no bumps..... Also noticed that fairway divots had been filled with sand.....and there's more divot mix on the carts. Carts were well sanitized prior to play.....a very nice tough to make you comfortable from the get go. Traps were raked out already except no one uses the rake provided on each golf cart. The locker room/bathrooms are really tired the rest of the clubhouse/food oeprations/bar are very nice. See my older reviews of RF as well for even more info. Recommend for early season play once they get off the cart path only which really slowed our play on back nine..
You are correct. Sell the place to someone else who takes pride in restoring this great layout to what it once was when it opened 30 years ago. Pay PB Dye to come in and do the work since he was on the original design team.
