Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Ruffled Feathers - ruff !
Course just experienced rain the day before.
All Sandtraps full of water, had to pull balls out.
Difficult situation unfortunately.
Nice layout, but course more for the challenging golfer, not a beginner or high handicap golfer.
Fun pretty course but the outing ahead of us. . . oof.
It's a pretty course especially in the Autumn.
Sadly we were stuck behind an outing of hacks and were backed up 1 to 2 groups on every tee box. Made it very hard to find our rhythm.
It would be nice if GolfNow had a feature that notified you of an outing. Then you could decide if you wanted to stay with your tee time or change it.
Pretty sure the courses know of group outings ahead of time and could give GolfNow the heads up.
Staff and Sand issues
Greens amazing with a very challenging layout. Looks as if the course at one time in its life had private club attention. Not so much now. No staff to assist with bags etc on a Saturday morning. Staff that was there had no interst in helping. Went thru 2 carts with bad GPS units in first 6 holes. Staff finally attempted to fix our cart, not believing us at all.
Bunkers in terrible condition. More gravel and hard pan than sand. Areas around greens burnt out. They had a 2' drop area that was compacted dirt. Pace of play was slow for a Saturday am.
Course is in good shape
The course is in good shape. Not as good as it use to be 10 years ago but well worth the money.
Challenging but fair
The course was in excellent condition. This was my first time playing a Pete Dye course and I enjoyed it very much. Most shots require both thought and execution to be successful. I would like to play it again with the knowledge of where to miss when approaching the greens. A number of times my miss put me in a bad position and cost me a stroke. Had I known the best place to miss I could have saved a few strokes. Would recommend to anyone who wants to play a well designed course in great condition.
Very challenging and fair
Unfortunately play is slow and rangers when their around don't help to move play along. I would play offen but you you don't start early enough then it 's a long round. And for what it cost to play you should be able to enjoy it. Maybe spread the tee times to 12 minutes or more apart. Anyway having to play the front side twice cause the back was crowded was not to my liking .
enjoy the day
Seemed painfully slow at 1st, but after we finished 9 the gps said we were only 12 minutes behind. Back 9 was much faster, completing our entire round 15 minutes ahead. Definitely short staffed, no ranger nor cart girl. However beer was only $3/can!!! That helped. I will play it again but no rush with so many other choices.
bunkers are hard mostly pebbles
only played 11 holes because of weather when we got back to clubhouse the bar was closed no food either
Poor Experience
Booked on Golfnow. Was not warned or advised about a tournament teeing up 30mins before our tee time. Suffered through a miserable 6hr+ round. Also was not warned about greens being aerated. Overall a very poor experience and outing and I would not recommend this course or outing to anyone.
Great course/layout
I paid $60 on Golfnow for the round. The conditions of the golf course were just ok. The greens are still slow and the rough is thin at this point with some weeds. The fairways overall are in good condition though there are some dead spots. My biggest compliment would be fairway bunkers, which were not in very good shape at all. But you should expect these conditions with the bad winter we had & it is still only May 3rd. If you can get a similar rate as I did, I would highly recommend this course as it is very challenging and worth it. The range is nice also.
Excellent Value
Ruffled Feathers is a Pete Dye course which played around twilight can be played for a great value with a cart. I played by myself and although I had to wait for the groups ahead of me, I was able to get plenty of practice since there was no one behind me. The course was crowded since it was Easter Sunday and low 70s and sunny which is very rare for Chicago.
Not up to par
Play ruffled feathers every year at least once. I know it's early in the season, but it was not special this round. I played great, but the course is showing signs of wear. It's not even close to being worth it's summer rate of over $100. Tons of other courses in better shape for half that. If you can get a green fee special, do it, but NEVER pay full price here.
Ruffled Feathers
Pete Dye courses are always fun and challenging to play, this course is no exception. Condition was a but rough around the edges and I have never been impressed with the staff there, facilities feel as if they are being let go a bit, bathrooms on the course for example. The owners have a great layout there, they should polish it up a bit and it would be worth every penny to play and ensure many returns of PD fans.
Nice layout
A decent amount of bunkers and ponds strategically placed...great greens
Over priced!
Old school course with a lot of trees. Nice course for the $30 I paid, but the course is not work the $80 daily fee. If the course condition was the same as a Prairie Landing, Bollingbrook, Mistwood, Harborside, etc. I would pay $80, but it's not. The condition of this course is not even in the same league of these courses.
Ruffled Hours
I have played here about 7 or 8 times and not one round has been less than 5 and a half hours. It's a shame really, because it's a nice golf course. The last time I played here, the front nine took 3 hours and 10 minutes so we quit at the turn. Sans the houses, the layout is really good and there are plenty of challenging holes. The back nine is one of the best nines I've played. There is water on 7 of the holes on the back side, and the last 2 holes might be the best 2 finishing holes in town. Trust me, I stayed patient and gave it plenty of chances, but the pace of play here is terrible and the staff doesn't seem to care, so I will not be playing here this year unless I don't have much to do and the green fee is less than $50. If you don't mind slow play, this is a must!
Has become one of my favorites
Playing golf in December in Chicago is a challenge. This. Ourse was in very good shape for this time of year. Ill play again if we have some more nice days this winter.
Golf Now has done its job. Presented me with a course I never played before and I will play agin with Golf Now deals.
all around golf course all 18 holes are very good condition even for winter season and we will be back again.
Good golf course very nice and very friendly service. I hope to have this course again in the future. Thanks.
Golf Now People are second class at Ruffled Feathers
I have played Ruffled Feathers a couple of time and really enjoyed the course. This time I played with a Golf Now Tee Time and it was bad from the start. At check in the club pro told us that since we were using Golf Now we would have to wait until our tee time (we were early and the tee was wide open). After that it went down hill. The staff was condecending and almost rude. I enjoy the course but I doubt I will be back since we were treated so badly. They must not need our green fees.
Challenging, yet playable for an average golfer.
I have always liked Ruffled Feathers and playing it this late in the season was great.
