Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Not up to par
Play ruffled feathers every year at least once. I know it's early in the season, but it was not special this round. I played great, but the course is showing signs of wear. It's not even close to being worth it's summer rate of over $100. Tons of other courses in better shape for half that. If you can get a green fee special, do it, but NEVER pay full price here.
Ruffled Feathers
Pete Dye courses are always fun and challenging to play, this course is no exception. Condition was a but rough around the edges and I have never been impressed with the staff there, facilities feel as if they are being let go a bit, bathrooms on the course for example. The owners have a great layout there, they should polish it up a bit and it would be worth every penny to play and ensure many returns of PD fans.
Nice layout
A decent amount of bunkers and ponds strategically placed...great greens
Over priced!
Old school course with a lot of trees. Nice course for the $30 I paid, but the course is not work the $80 daily fee. If the course condition was the same as a Prairie Landing, Bollingbrook, Mistwood, Harborside, etc. I would pay $80, but it's not. The condition of this course is not even in the same league of these courses.
Ruffled Hours
I have played here about 7 or 8 times and not one round has been less than 5 and a half hours. It's a shame really, because it's a nice golf course. The last time I played here, the front nine took 3 hours and 10 minutes so we quit at the turn. Sans the houses, the layout is really good and there are plenty of challenging holes. The back nine is one of the best nines I've played. There is water on 7 of the holes on the back side, and the last 2 holes might be the best 2 finishing holes in town. Trust me, I stayed patient and gave it plenty of chances, but the pace of play here is terrible and the staff doesn't seem to care, so I will not be playing here this year unless I don't have much to do and the green fee is less than $50. If you don't mind slow play, this is a must!
Has become one of my favorites
Playing golf in December in Chicago is a challenge. This. Ourse was in very good shape for this time of year. Ill play again if we have some more nice days this winter.
Golf Now has done its job. Presented me with a course I never played before and I will play agin with Golf Now deals.
all around golf course all 18 holes are very good condition even for winter season and we will be back again.
Good golf course very nice and very friendly service. I hope to have this course again in the future. Thanks.
Golf Now People are second class at Ruffled Feathers
I have played Ruffled Feathers a couple of time and really enjoyed the course. This time I played with a Golf Now Tee Time and it was bad from the start. At check in the club pro told us that since we were using Golf Now we would have to wait until our tee time (we were early and the tee was wide open). After that it went down hill. The staff was condecending and almost rude. I enjoy the course but I doubt I will be back since we were treated so badly. They must not need our green fees.
Challenging, yet playable for an average golfer.
I have always liked Ruffled Feathers and playing it this late in the season was great.
The course has great visual interest and fine greens
This course has a great design perfect fairways and true greens. I had a 12 noon tee time but I called and ask to go early due to rain/ snow in the forcast, they told me no problem.
I was the only one on the course being 45F and light rain. The course drained well and I really enjoyed the round.
Great use of golfnow hot deal
It was a very nice course. A lot of water on almost every hole. A lot of bunkers. Greens were fair and not too difficult. Fairways were in very good shape. It was very challenging. GPS carts were a big plus. Regular green fee rates are way too high but getting the golfnow hot deal to play this course made it possible for my twosome. We were both happy to have been able to play this course.
it was the best
the course was pristine, difficult to attack. you must play smart. its beautiful and i look forward to playing it again
Fantastic Course
My favorite course in the Chicago area. Even though we played in the fall the course was in excellent condition. The Pete and PB Dye design is spectacular and challenging. Love this course and I will be back.
great course but veryyyyy slow pace of play
great course and great rates but pace of play very slow
Short but challenging
Greens were pinned/aerated a few weeks ago and they have not closed up yet maybe more sand overseed needed they were terribly bumpy have played course over50 times in the past n by far the worse the greens have ever been even when this has been done before
Losing its' touch
Great lay out and usually in great condition but no longer the case. I'd like to blame it on it being later in the season but compared to how it used to be and from friends reviews earlier in the summer, Ruffled is slowly degrading.
Worst golf experience ever!
I play over 100 rounds at more than 50-60 course annually and this was the worst I have experienced in years. 5 1/2 hour round on a Friday morning. The starter and rangers were rude and dismissive when we requested the help speed up play. Said "if you don't like it, leave". Course was in terrible shape. Beat up tees and greens, overgrown weeds in the "flowerbeds", burned out and brown spots all over the course. They claim to be a premier course. They are a third rate track. Would not recommed to anyone! Spend you money elsewhere,
Sub-par course conditions, but weather related
I played this course Sunday, 10/6/13 and it was in awful shape. Heavy rains Saturday washed out the bunkers, many of which still had standing water as of noon Sunday - and not just puddles, but pools of water so deep and muddy that I lost three balls in them. Now, they can't stop the rain, but the bunkers' drainage system is poor. There wasn't a single playable bunker on the course, which has a lot of bunkers. When I see what kind of rain they got during the President's Cup at The Memorial and how well the bunkers drained and the grounds crew prepared them for play in a matter of minutes, it was a big disappointment that this premier course was so adversely impacted by less heavy rain a full day before. This course deserves a better drainage system.
The greens were heavily marked up from unrepaired or poorly repaired ball marks. The tees had suffered from a long season of too much traffic. The drop areas, made mandatory despite the USGA rules, were nothing more than undefined patches of torn-up rough positioned to speed up play. Speaking of speed of play -- too slow with waits on every tee the entire round.
In sum, this course suffers from being a golf-outing factory, with insufficient maintenance for such a wonderful layout and design. Pete Dye should come back and see how his course is being abused. He wouldn't be happy.
Great course.
This is the course to play. But plan for a 5 hours play, it is definitely not easy to play for any body. Its undulating nature and surrounding makes for interesting views. The hosts make easier. We ended it at the 17th Tee due to darkness.
Great shape this time of year!!!
Awesome going again next week!!! Open the bar earlier for the early birds.
