Ruffled Feathers Golf Club

Played late in the year - rough conditions to be expected.

For a Chicago golf course in December, Ruffled Feathers was in great shape and was also a steal for the round. I've played quite a few courses all over Chicago and Ruffled Feathers may be the best value I've seen. I'd highly recommend anyone play and book through Golfnow.

Yes, it was December but played another course the next day and THEIR greens were in good shape. The number of people they jammed onto the course was absolutely ridiculous. We started off on the back nine and by the time we made it around to the front nine they recommended we play the back again because the front was still jammed. It appears they know how to make money but not how to run a golf course.

It's late Nov so I didn't expect pristine conditions. There were no water in ball washers, divots galore.

My brother & I had the privilege of playing RF in T-day at the fall rate price. Overall I felt it was a GREAT experience, both aesthetically & spiritually. If you only play muni's & local courses this is challenging course that will expose you to what it is like to play golf at the highest levels. While I am by no means a guru, Pete or his son (however you view the story) speak to you on each & every hole. Strategic tree here, 200+ carry there, holes facing north or south that play into the windy days both good & bad. If you want to see the legend at work it’s worth the trip, at the cheaper rates. I do agree that the place was a bit torn up but that's why they discount the price. The course was firm (not squishy) & in full fall mode; w/bare trees, trampled greens & rutted fairways. Bottom line - Would I play there again, probably in the middle of summer to see the difference. Would I play there every weekend for full rates, probably not. Golf in Chicago is a commodity, plain & simple. There are a lot of “good” course for better prices. Say hello to Pete & bring an extra sleeve of balls!

Three sets of tees, has a great mix of "birdie" holes as well as challanging holes that you may need to play carefully.
Greens are big so check your yardage

Have played Ruffled Feathers over a dozen times ... definitely one of the top courses in Chicago. This Pete Dye layout challenges you in many different ways, so bring your A game. Staff is always friendly, and I'll continue playing any time they have a pricing special on Golf Now!

You can't go out and expect perfect conditions at the end of the season. Course was in decent shape, greens rolled good, the fairways were nice, but there were some mud spots off to the sides. Seems RF must be cutting back due to the bad economy, they now charge $5 for the range, and the score card was a black and white copy of the previous card. Normal prices for this place are quite high.

I like this course, played this summer and loved it. Great shape then. Played on 11/8/2012 and thought the greens and fairways were pretty beat up. I understand the staff is thin and I blame for other golfers for not repairing thier marks, divots, etc...
For the money we paid it was still 5 stars. This is a must play course in the summer, especially for P. Dye fans and has a good grill.

Tangent- My favorite course in the Carribean is a Dye course in Jamaica- The White Witch in the coastal Blue Mountains.

Green status are well-maintained golf course, was good.

Played on Sunday November 4th. Course was in average condition but it was early November. Greens were in good shape and rolled very true. We payed $45 w/cart so at that price it was a good deal. Would never pay more than that to play here. A lot of the holes are right on top of each other and the course is cut right through a subdivision. It took just over 5 hours to play. Unacceptable at any time of the year yet alone in November.

I have played Ruffled feathers twice now and enjoy the layout as it is very challenging with a nice variety of both short and long holes. The greens are extremely challenging as they have numerous slopes and are sized appropriately to the distance of the hole. The fist time I played ruffled the course conditions were firm and fast of which I love as most courses in the Chicago area are severely over watered of which makes for a miserable day pulling your ball out of the mud. My second round at Ruffled was extremely muddy due to the weather of which was understandable. This would be fine if I was to get an honest answer of course conditions before setting a tee time. I was told the course was in pristine conditions? Not the case as the bunkers were not even playable, it was cart paths only because of standing water, and the greens were in horrible condition. The course should have essentially been closed as it was unplayable. I am hoping this was was just a one time incident. I didn't expect it to be perfect as we did get a little bit of rain, but don't tell me its perfect when the course is barely playable.

Great course was a great value and as always ruffled feathers makes you play better.

Nice layout. The course gave us options on how to attack a hole. Nice lies when you hit the fairways. Greens were true and fair with nice movement on how to read a putt. Would definitely return.

The layout of the course has always been interesting & challenging. All their facility's offer great quality and make for very pleasurable golf/dining experience.
Ruffled Feathers continues to offer a truly country club experience at a public price.
It is one of my favorite places to play, in an area, blessed with an abundance of quality golf courses.
