Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Ruffled Feathers on May 30th, 2013
The course was in very good shape. There was no ranger or starter to organize play. Play was slow. The course over all was in good shape. Greens were slow. Many rough areas were too long, bunkers need a lot of work We have had a lot of rain, so I took that into consideration as far as the course condition.. I played the course last year and it was in worst shape, so I do see some improvement. I paid 39 dollars to play for an 11:53 tee time and I thought that was ok. If you pay the regular rate you will be disappointed.
This is my favorite course around Chicago area
Great course, and fabulous conditions. Friendly staff and love to play this Pete Dye Designed course.
This couse has very good maintain
I want you to limit the slow play if it is possible.
Beautiful scenes, yet tee boxes and greens need attention: WATERING
The course is already difficult at 130 slope, so the underwatered conditions causing balls to roll out of the fairways or off the greens when hit were discouraging. THeir reputation is slipping from them. $10 per person for the range that ran out of balls!
Great layout, but needs some attention.
This is a challenging course with interesting hole designs. They need some work on their traps, several were in need of sand. The greens were very fast, and several pin locations were very unfair, as they were at the top of a crest.
Interesting track, but in a bit of disrepair.
Having played here 20 years ago, when there were no homes and the clubhouse was a mobile home, I have seen the course mature over time. Unfortunately there appears to be a lack of maintenance this last time out. The traps barely have sand and some of the greens were hurting, and the rough was silly long.
The other facilities could also stand a bit of attention. The value is decent, though, but it would be nice if they would recapture the level of quality they once had.
Great Layout
Great layout, very challenging. We played a $75 course for only $36. Great variety in holes from wide open to woodsy, hilly and plenty of water. Greens had a lot of ball marks for so early in the season.
Great course with several beautiful holes
Would play this course again in a heartbeat. Fabulous par 3's. Lots of character in greens. Lots of good risk reward par fives and fours.
Course was in pretty good shape
The golf course was outstanding in terms of being very challenging. The green were fast for this time of year of the season. Also the pin placements were hard to reach during the round which made it difficult for birdies in the round. I hit some pretty good approach shots that were four and five feet from the hole and came away with just pars. The greens were hard to read with false fronts which does not show up on the GPS in and around the greens made it real difficult and the fast pace of the greens didn't make it a sure bet for one or two putts on those greens. I love playing this course because it forces you to use all the club in your bag and challenges every aspect of your game.
Ruffled Feathers
Pro shop staff was horrible, rude and unfriendly. We had a 9:41 tee time but they ran late and we didnt start until 10. The starter let a group of 6 tee off right before us. After we complained, they sent a ranger out to break them up. It didnt matter because the pace of play was way too slow. It took over 5 hours to finish.
Great layout, greens need maintenance.
Fun course. This course has a good mix of tees so many levels can play the course.
Very nice
One of the nicest courses on the South side. Challenging holes very well maintained. Great course design. It's great to have an ability to play these great courses at a cheaper rate.
Nice course
Pretty neat course, a variety of wild birds, and even saw eating eagle.Just muddy after the rain Ball Road, I believe that the good weather when, there will be more beautiful
Ranger-free; front tees
Teed off at 11:15am on a non-holiday Monday, in the spring. It took us 4.5 hours, primarily due to the two groups ahead of us: a two-some in a cart (cart path only); a single walker (who refused to golf with our two-some, or the group in front. And -- the absence of a ranger or starter who should have been monitoring and suggesting a more efficient method of play.
Also -- Championship tees were removed. Seems the back tee boxes were not very well maintained over the last several days, and the course needed to give them a rest. Divot marks were completely random, and grass regrowth was completely absent.
I would wait to play here until June.
always a challenge
course really slow but in nice condition per weather conditions
very good conditions
This is a target golf course. (dye layout). Challenging yet rewards good shots. management (ownership) has changed 3 times in last 10 years. Lets hope new mgmt is hear to stay!! Bring the divot seed as fairways need it. Overall a good experience
Too early in the year to fully appreciate
First off, let me state that Ruffled Feathers is in the top three courses, which I have played, in the Chicagoland area; battling it out with Blackstone and Thunderhawk. However, with heavy rain, or in this case, a long hard winter, conditions were not up to par. Again, keep in mind this was the first warm day of the year, so maintenance was not first priority.
This is a gorgeous course, winter doldrums not withstanding, and it has Pete Dye's signature all over it, including an island green at the mercy of the wind. The course plays beautifully in full bloom, but at this time of year temper your expectations as the clean up continues from the winter slog that is Chicago.
Great layout quite a challenge
Luv it! Can't wait till it gets green! Too early in the year for a great review
This course is lovely.
I love this course. but green is so slow.
My golf friends like fast green. we want to more fast green this course. thank you!
pretty good shape, great value for $50
under-staffed, no halfway house open on a fairly full course, need to climb stairs to go to bar, kind of a pain
great pace, probably due to lots of 3somes and some 2somes.
