Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Very nice
One of the nicest courses on the South side. Challenging holes very well maintained. Great course design. It's great to have an ability to play these great courses at a cheaper rate.
Nice course
Pretty neat course, a variety of wild birds, and even saw eating eagle.Just muddy after the rain Ball Road, I believe that the good weather when, there will be more beautiful
Ranger-free; front tees
Teed off at 11:15am on a non-holiday Monday, in the spring. It took us 4.5 hours, primarily due to the two groups ahead of us: a two-some in a cart (cart path only); a single walker (who refused to golf with our two-some, or the group in front. And -- the absence of a ranger or starter who should have been monitoring and suggesting a more efficient method of play.
Also -- Championship tees were removed. Seems the back tee boxes were not very well maintained over the last several days, and the course needed to give them a rest. Divot marks were completely random, and grass regrowth was completely absent.
I would wait to play here until June.
always a challenge
course really slow but in nice condition per weather conditions
very good conditions
This is a target golf course. (dye layout). Challenging yet rewards good shots. management (ownership) has changed 3 times in last 10 years. Lets hope new mgmt is hear to stay!! Bring the divot seed as fairways need it. Overall a good experience
Too early in the year to fully appreciate
First off, let me state that Ruffled Feathers is in the top three courses, which I have played, in the Chicagoland area; battling it out with Blackstone and Thunderhawk. However, with heavy rain, or in this case, a long hard winter, conditions were not up to par. Again, keep in mind this was the first warm day of the year, so maintenance was not first priority.
This is a gorgeous course, winter doldrums not withstanding, and it has Pete Dye's signature all over it, including an island green at the mercy of the wind. The course plays beautifully in full bloom, but at this time of year temper your expectations as the clean up continues from the winter slog that is Chicago.
Great layout quite a challenge
Luv it! Can't wait till it gets green! Too early in the year for a great review
This course is lovely.
I love this course. but green is so slow.
My golf friends like fast green. we want to more fast green this course. thank you!
pretty good shape, great value for $50
under-staffed, no halfway house open on a fairly full course, need to climb stairs to go to bar, kind of a pain
great pace, probably due to lots of 3somes and some 2somes.
What a trajedy this course has turned into.
This course was arguably for many years (up until four/five years ago) one of the best conditioned/maintained/prettiest golf courses in the southwest suburbs. How the membership and homeowner association could allow this course to fall into such dis repair so fast is simply perplexing. The conditions of the greens are horrible. Crab grass and other species of weeds around greens and tees that have excessive divots. Irrigation around tee's/greens seems very inconsistent to the point where you wonder whether some irrigation stations around the greens are even operable.
I have to believe it is due to some sort of cut in maintenance as having played there for the first time in five years was simply gut wrenching.
The ownership/membership better come to some quick conclusion on a remedy. $35 golf rounds on Golfnow is not the answer. It is simply NOT worth $35. And to think they charge $90 on the weekends is simply comic.
Shame on the ownership/membership to allow this "once gem" go into so much dis repair.
Not to feel bad for the once million dollar homeowners around the course (now worth $600/$700K) but are you not concerned about your continued plummet in your housing value on top of the fact of with what has been happening to the course?
Very well kept with a nice clubhouse.
The course was very challenging and the greens were fine and the value we got with a hot tee time was excellent. The only downside was that since we played it late in the year it was cart path only golf which made it a bit brutal. They failed to inform us of this when we made our reservations which I thought was an oversight on their part.
Top notch course and staff......However, bring your A+ game.
Played Ruffled Feathers in December, winter rates and rules. Tee boxes moved up to make it more playable for average golfers. Winter rates made it affordable. Most golfers cannot justify the in-season primo fees charged for this primo course. Not suitable for those seeking an easy walk in the park. Several fairway undulations turn great drives into tough second shots. Avoid hitting blind shots because greens are well protected. You will be forced 4-5 times to carry over heather and water hazards. But those same hazards make this course absolutely beautiful and a "must play" in Chicago.
Great course if you can get a discount
pleasing to the eye, moderately difficult, not a lot of water or OB. Very well maintained but probably not worth the $100 standard summer rate.
graeat bargain for $25
Good deal thru golf now but course was not in its best shape. But, hard to complain when it's 56 and sunny in December
Challenging and fun layout, but condition warrants play only at discounted rate.
Played at discounted rate on rare warm December day. Enjoyed layout and challenge. Well worth low price. Unless much investment made to improve conditions would go elsewhere if had to pay normal rate.
Nice Track
This is no doubt an excellent track. Tees and fairways were beautiful for this time of year, but... the greens were horrible. They could have been cut, and/or rolled in this weather (it has been warm) for a place of this caliber the greens were definitley substandard.
Nice layout - rough conditions
Played late in the year - rough conditions to be expected.
Great course and still in great shape in December!
For a Chicago golf course in December, Ruffled Feathers was in great shape and was also a steal for the round. I've played quite a few courses all over Chicago and Ruffled Feathers may be the best value I've seen. I'd highly recommend anyone play and book through Golfnow.
over booked many five-somes, greens in poor condition
Yes, it was December but played another course the next day and THEIR greens were in good shape. The number of people they jammed onto the course was absolutely ridiculous. We started off on the back nine and by the time we made it around to the front nine they recommended we play the back again because the front was still jammed. It appears they know how to make money but not how to run a golf course.
