Ruffled Feathers Golf Club

I’ve played this course 1-2 per year for past four years, and while I have consistently not played well I’ve enjoyed the experience. This year the conditions were noticeably worse: every greens was rolling different speeds, bunkers were poorly maintained (on top of very poor quality sand). I hadn’t even mentioned it before all of my group agreed we wouldn’t return this season. It’s on par with what I’d expect for $60, and it’s almost double that. Oh, and if you’re going to consider yourself a top level course you really need to have carts with GPS screens. Overall, poor experience. Luckily, it was a nice day to be out. 🙂

The course is a disaster- fairways are filled with weeds and poor divot repair, tee boxes are bouncy and unmanaged, bunkers are mud- not “wet sand” actually mud and no rakes for the half dozen that could have maybe been scraped to pretend it was a trap, again NO rakes, all fringes and areas that should be landscapes and cut are just overgrown and a mess. The greens actually rolled and were playable. The only Pete Dye track around and it’s left to just wither away- plus the kicker $90 !!! Never again

This is Pete Dye course with a great layout. It can be challenging at every level of play. The greens could be water a bit more, when this dry. They putt super fast. The biggest complaint is for the money this course change, the sand traps are clay. They need to be dug out and refilled with sand. Even topped with fresh sand. There are over 120 traps. Many are not playable. The ones that are are still challenging. It is shame.

The first nine holes was alright but the second nine was a nightmare .it was turning out to be a 5 or 6 hour round

San traps were mostly unplayable, either due to standing water or woeful lack of sand. Greens were inconsistent at best - some hadn't been rolled out while others had. Some greens were hard and didn't hold an approach shot while others were very soft making it difficult to play. Clubhouse has a 19th hole jammed into the pro shop???? Course layout is fine and the staff was friendly but not enough to justify $100+ greens fee

need work on some of the sand traps some had no sand hard dirt some had water and some had dirt and rocks

Always a good test of skill and really nice course but would appreciate the sand traps not being a guessing game somewhere between a concrete shot or crispy mud crust . It's a high quality club and course it's almost ironic that the sand is this bad

I was sadly disappointed to see the deteriorated condition of the amazing golf course I remembered. The sand traps lacked sand and were hard pan dirt. The tees were filled with unprepared divots and damage. The fairways were in okay condition, as were the greens. The beautiful clubhouse was a ghost town with only a single pro shop attendant and no bar or restaurant.

The course was in decent shape for playing twilight. The staff was extremely friendly but the bathrooms stationed on the course have locked doors with codes that they did not provide you. If you need to use the restroom you're going to have to go to the clubhouse. The greens were challenging with many undulations and the fairways were in great shape.

While this is a great course and in good condition, I don't understand why the 'bunkers' are just muddy rock strewn sandless embarrassments. The 'bunkers' at a bad muni course are better than these, which for the premium price to play a great course is so disappointing.

This course is very nice but has the potential to be great. For the $80 greens fee I felt there can be some improvements. I really enjoyed the architecture of the course but the biggest improvement that needs to made are the bunkers. Many were like concrete or had standing water. The aeration of the greens was also frustrating at points while putting, but I understand this is towards the maintenance portion of the course. One of our carts was having battery issues and had to be replaced while on the course. The staff were very nice and brought out one immediately. Overall, I liked the course and clubhouse but felt there is room for improvement.

Waiting at every tee box is not a lot of fun. Rangers need to do their job with the four sum picking up their pace, this was five holes before our four sum.

Always in good shape & great staff! It may sound trivial but when everyone says hello to you & seem like they enjoy where they work it’s noticeable & enjoyable - well done!

Weekday play right under 4 hours. The bunkers HAD sand in them & were maintained which has not been the case at other area courses sadly.

Will be back to Ruffled for sure!

The course itself is a fun layout for the most part but man is it so overpriced for what you get/conditions.

No gps on carts.

Bunkers aren’t even playable, big mud pits. 4th time golfing here and each time they’ve been terrible and it’s clear they don’t work on them.

Tee boxes are par 3s are brutal but even worst are the greens…divots everywhere

If it wasn’t so expensive it would be one thing, but it’s priced as if it’s one of top courses in Chicagoland and it doesn’t seem like it is anymore.

I have played RF many times. I live 1 mile from the course. It’s a Pete Dye design. It’s a fantastic layout. However, course conditions have markedly deteriorated over the last 5 years and after my latest visit I doubt I will return. It is apparent there are no “golf people” involved in day-to-day operations - no golf pro, no course superintendent, no greens keeper. Every potential penny has been saved, every cost has been cut:

Bunkers are dreadful and there is not a rake on the course; tee boxes are a mess; cart paths are falling apart and potholed; GPS has been removed from the carts; there are no ball washers or garbage cans; clubhouse and bar are now reduced to a hot dog cart and a takeout window; bathrooms at 7 and 14 have been neglected.

Most $25 park district courses are in better shape than this. I wonder what Pete would say?

Course was amazing. Tough for a first time golfer but I will absolutely be playing it again. Staff was great, grounds were well maintained, all in all a wonderful experience.
