Old Oak Country Club is situated only 20 minutes from Chicago, but the beautifully wooded terrain shaded by mature oaks and hickory trees, makes it feel as though it's much further away. Originally opened in 1926, the golf course is one of the area's oldest and even one of the oldest in the state. It has undergone many renovations over the years but it still retains its classic character. The layout offers plenty of variety with drivable par 4s and lengthy par 5s. The rolling topography provides many of the golf course's challenges, from the rolling fairways and undulating greens to the elevated tees and blind shots. Mature trees tower over the fairways, adding another tricky element to the golf course. Old Oak Country Club is challenging but fair and still quite playable, which is why it has long been a local favorite.

Won't be returning

The course was in good condition for fall in Chicago. The hot deal value was very affordable. The ranger driving around was irritating and annoying for the first few holes. I golf a few times a week and see a lot of different courses. I haven't come across such a difficult personality on a golf course for some time. Won't be returning to Old Oaks anytime soon. Too many other courses that don't deal with customers in such a poor manner.

Old school course, lots of woods, small greens in great shape.

One of my favorite rounds of the year. Great layout with nice forward tees for my girlfriend to also enjoy the course. Almost every hole has tree lined fairways tee to green. If your an avid golfer this is a must play golf course!

Very nice course.

Course was very nice and well maintained. Golf carts had GPS in them, this really helped out with distance to the pin. Would def. play this course again!

Good course, and we'll maintained. It's a challenge for me and the greens are tough so you need to be a good putter.

Good course. Definately old school.

Old School with tree lined fairways and some great approach shots. Challenging enough from the tips, but not tricked up. The course is pretty much in front of you. The staff was great. We had a large SLOW group in front of us and they directed us around and we got to finish in under 41/2 hrs. Probably a little over priced at $69, but a good test of your skills.

Need to Work on Scheduling

Very good course with great greens... true and fast. Tight fairways. A few short gimmicky holes that detract from the overall experience. They allow too many outings on weekends that stall play. If you can play during the week, it should move much faster.

You have to hit it in the fairway.

Course is in great condition! You have to hit the ball straight or you are in trouble with all the trees. Enjoyable course for Chicago area.

fun layout

Now, I did play on a Sunday afternoon, on one of the nicest days of the year. So, I knew going into it we were going to be in for a long round, but pushing 5 hours is never good. What I didn't like was the complete disorganization by the starter on the first tee.

This is just a side note, and has nothing to do with the course. I cannot stand when I'm watching the group in front of me topping grounders and 60 yard snap hooks from the tips. And hitting 2-3 balls a piece off every tee. If you're not a 5 handicap, move ahead a tee.

I've played here before, and one definite positives is that the course has a fun layout. No 2 holes are the same. Some water, but not overwhelming. Generally, the fairways are big enough you have some wiggle room off the tees. Course was in OK shape, but some of the greens were getting a little chewed up.

Overall, not a bad experience. I will gladly play it again when I know it will be less busy.

A Local Gem, but Pace was Slow

I've played this course before, it's a local gem. It is maintained, but some tee boxes needed attention. One green was in need of repair, but I enjoyed the golf. I did not enjoy the pace. There was a men's club scramble group a few spots ahead and they slowed down the pace to a crawl. On the first par three, it was backed up 3 groups! We were ready to quit after 9 holes, but we stuck it out and after the turn the scramble guys were done and the pace sped up. I hope this isn't the regular Sunday pace, but I will give it another shot and see what happens.

Always a Great Course. Fun & Tough for the Golfball Donator

This course is very well maintained. The ground crews do a fantastic job and stay out of the golfers way. This course keeps improving itself constantly. If you watch the Golf Now prices you can golf at a reasonable rate, but given the economy it's a bit pricey, although it is well worth the price. All the carts have GPS to the pin location which is nice. The only drawback is a stupid $5.00 cart key deposit? I would guess it's so the counter guys can make a few extra bucks. Other than that you will have a hard time finding a better place to golf in this area. GolfNow price $36.00. Reg. $56.00.

Challenging course, fun to play, crowded on the weekend

Great layout and conditions. The first couple of holes are a traffic nightmare with balls flying in from other fairways, but by hole three it gets better.

Challenging greens

Always loved this course and it was in fantastic shape. Friendly, helpful staff. Pace of play was good for a weekend. Its a pretty course, relatively short, but the Greens were challenging compared to the courses I typically play. Great way to spend a Sunday morning!

Course was a pleasant suprise

This was a fun course to play, the greens were the highlight of this course they have a few that rival some PGA courses very quick and unforgiving. The carts come with GPS that isn't labeled on the site which was a pleasant surprise. I would definitely come back and play this course again.

Great course for the area, good deal

Excellent course for a weekly round or friendly gathering. Moderate difficulty and length, but plenty of birdie holes with a well placed tee shot. Well maintained at an affordable price. Great people on staff, happy and helpful.

Very very slow and busy

Round took 5 1/2 hours, way too slow, had to wait on every hole. Tee times should be booked further apart.
