Old Oak Country Club
About
Old Oak Country Club is situated only 20 minutes from Chicago, but the beautifully wooded terrain shaded by mature oaks and hickory trees, makes it feel as though it's much further away. Originally opened in 1926, the golf course is one of the area's oldest and even one of the oldest in the state. It has undergone many renovations over the years but it still retains its classic character. The layout offers plenty of variety with drivable par 4s and lengthy par 5s. The rolling topography provides many of the golf course's challenges, from the rolling fairways and undulating greens to the elevated tees and blind shots. Mature trees tower over the fairways, adding another tricky element to the golf course. Old Oak Country Club is challenging but fair and still quite playable, which is why it has long been a local favorite.

Course has many ways to get into trouble. Great challenge!
Lots of old oak trees and other hazards to grab you if you get off the fairway. Great course maintenance and fairly quick greens for a public course. If you spray the ball there are many obstacles that can prevent you from having a shot at your target. We teed off at 1230 pm and were finished by 43 on the dot. Great pace of play. If you have not played here before you are in for a frustrating treat.
Nice course
Course is in good shape. Greens were quick. Sand was good
Fun, Tricky Course
I have played Old Oak a few dozen times. My opinion is this course is a lot of fun. It is not very long, but there are many opportunities to lose a few balls. It is generally in good shape, and most holes you approach feeling that a birdie is possible. At the end of the round you kind of scratch your head wondering why you didnt play as well as you thought you would. the greens usually run pretty fast, and there are a few very tricky greens. on the negative side, if you go during peak hours and days, the rates are generally a bit overpriced, and they pack the house during those times, so you may end up waiting at every tee box. If you can find a decent deal and get out at an off-peak hour, I recommend this course very much.
Well done Golf Now
I waited behind a man who didn't use Golf Now and waited while he fumbled to find his reservation, he had to step out of line and it was my turn. I gave my name and there I was, 3 players. No problems at all, however, if there'd been an issue, I had my confirmation right there on my IPhone. Everything went well, a player in my 3 some had dropped his $600 range finder on the course somewhere and when I returned the carts and asked, there it was, someone had turned it in. Proof positive that golf IS a gentlemen's game.
Great coarse for a leisurely round of golf
The course has a nice clubhouse with good food. Staff is friendly and attentive. My partner and I were paired-up with another couple and we enjoyed a nicely paced, no pressure round of golf. The coarse was in great shape, with obvious improvements. For an older coarse the greens are plenty large - and fast. Great facility to enjoy an occasional fun paced round of golf.
3 hour front nine - would have been 6+ hour 18 but we got fed up and quit at #12.
Worse course of the year. 3 hour front nine - would have been 6+ hour 18 but we got fed up and quit at #12.
Perfect condition
The course is in great shape. The greens are fast and challenging. Country club atmosphere that is open to the public.
This course is very a good value.
The course is very scenic. Well maintained and pin placement can make scores interesting with sloping greens. Even the driving range gives you a feeling of being in Wisconsin.
over booked
The course was in great condition but they over booked had a 3:47 t time did not get on course until 4:15 very slow play. Did not see a ranger until over half way
Needs help!
This course has a very challenging layout, but the conditions were poor. The main complaint I have reflects the conditions of the greens!!! With all the rain we have had I can't believe the conditions of the greens! We're they not aerated? Any water? THE GREENS WERE PAINTED GREEN!! It was so obvious, just ask my shoes!!! I will no longer come out and play this course! Too bad the course itself has a nice layout and tight tree lined fairways.
Great as always!!
Course was in phenominal shape. Keep it in the fairway. Hard to find balls & hit out of the rough. As always, in great shape!!
Beautiful course in excellent condition. Great deal
I had not played this course in over four years, and my friend the same, and we were astounded at the improvements that had been made. We will make it a point to golf here again and utilize GolfNow.
Great course, great value!
Old Oak looks like a short course by studying the scorecard. However, the par 3's are challenging and the short par 4's are protected with tree-lined fairways and undulating and fast greens. Good test for any level of golfer. A must play!
Greens were manicured to perfection
First time ever playing old oak and I really want to go back and play it again. It is the best manicured course I have played in the south suburbs. I Read about how staff is a little uptight and only the starter was rude, everyone else was very pleasant. Very challenging course with fairly small greens and protected well by trees and traps. The greens had a very true roll without the putts bouncing like all the other courses I have played in the south suburbs. One small piece of advice on this course is to hit the ball straight, or it will be a long round and about half a dozen golf balls.
Awesome condition!!
One of the best courses I have played in a long time. A hidden gem!!
Great layout, fast greens, but a few kinks
I have always loved the layout of Old Oak. The greens are very good; they roll true and fast, aren't too dry or soft and receive well-struck shots in a predictable way. The rough and bunkers are kept up very well. Unfortunately, they don't cut the fairways or tee boxes anywhere near as closely as they should, so it's difficult to get much roll out of tee shots or generate enough spin on approaches. The grass length of fairways/tees is comparable to the intermediate cut between fairways & rough on most other courses charging $65+.
Pace of play has been an issue lately. I generally play between 9am-11am on weekends and the last few times I've played there (usually go 2-4 times a year) have averaged between 4.75-5 hours. Their course rangers are ineffective, too. They are either nowhere to be found or simply drive by without any regard for etiquette or communication about slow groups ahead. I very politely mentioned the slow pace & absence of rangers to the pro shop after my last round and felt my feedback was dismissed by the staff.
I'll definitely still be going back there simply because it is such a great layout with an excellent practice area (grass-tee driving range and large short-game area), but only if there's a good deal and I have a lot of free time.
Great course, but slooowwww
The course was in perfect condition. The greens were fast, the fairways immaculate. But 5 hours for a round on this course was brutal. No rangers out there to speed things along. Highly recommend the course, but they need to work on pace of play.
I have never played a more scenic golf at any price!
hundreds of beautiful trees everywhere, many upgrades have been made to an already very well maintained course.Rolling hills and several well placed water hazards add more beauty to the whole experience.
The course is very well maintained
Narrow fairways with long rough and many trees makes this course very challenging. It is extremely difficult for any golfer who doesn't hit straight. Course management is rewarded!
eexcellent
Weather was not friendly ,misting and chilly, thought of Scotland, but a good course just makes for a great adventure no matter the weather.
