Old Oak Country Club
About
Old Oak Country Club is situated only 20 minutes from Chicago, but the beautifully wooded terrain shaded by mature oaks and hickory trees, makes it feel as though it's much further away. Originally opened in 1926, the golf course is one of the area's oldest and even one of the oldest in the state. It has undergone many renovations over the years but it still retains its classic character. The layout offers plenty of variety with drivable par 4s and lengthy par 5s. The rolling topography provides many of the golf course's challenges, from the rolling fairways and undulating greens to the elevated tees and blind shots. Mature trees tower over the fairways, adding another tricky element to the golf course. Old Oak Country Club is challenging but fair and still quite playable, which is why it has long been a local favorite.

Great layout/Hidden Gem
Every year they put money back into the course and the last 5 years this course has gotten tremendously better. From the new driving range, to the new tee boxes & strategically placed bunkers, it is a solid challenge from the tips. The recent re-rating by the USGA of 71.5 & 133 slope is a testament to the layout & improvements. The GPS on the carts is great, but a new fleet may be needed.
Pricey but very nice.
Course was in great condition and challenging. A little pricey but a very nice course and GPS carts makes it worth it. Started on the back 9 and got jammed up a little when we came around back to 1.
Quality course, even so early in the season.
My father-in-law had an 8:44 tee time on 3/30. After a 30-40 minute frost delay we got onto the course. Not complaining as it was only 34-36 degrees when we arrived. Course conditions were good considering it was one of the first weekends Old Oak was open. Green conditions were very good compared to a few local courses I played the previous week. Overall a challenging course with a lot of rolling hills and difficult shots. Come spring/fall when the trees fill in this will be even tougher and more fun to play.
GREAT TIME
GREAT COURSE TO PLAY .COURSE WAS IN GREAT SHAPE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR .
This course needs a little help
I booked a tee time and when to the course they put 18
walk-ons before me.It is a nice course but I do not think
I'll be going back anytime soon!
TERRY
Greens under aeration but wasn't NOTED on Golfnow!
Course lay out's good, beuatiful old trees, nice fall colors. The greens were aerated and very bumpy yet looked to be challenging when not. I wished Golfnow NOTED it on its site.
well maintained, scenic, variety of tee boxes
I visited this course upon the recommendation of a couple of co-workers, one of which is a member. In sum, this course rewards the straight hitter who can keep it in the fairway. The rough is definitely not your friend! There are a variety of tee boxes which provide a different experience each time you play. The fast, sloping greens also kept me thinking from tee to cup. Plenty of trees provide a scenic autumn round, although the amount of leaves in the rough can make for a more daunting search for your ball (see aforementioned warning).
My buddy and I played in 3 hours at a pretty leisurely pace. Catch a great rate on golfnow.com and you'll be very pleased. The bar and grill at the clubhouse looeked very welcoming, althgough we did not partake.
Definitely going back.
a must play
older course with numerous trees. the tree line creates some narrow fairways. greens are generallly well protected by large bunkers. the day I played was sunny and 60, mid-October, and the color change was spectacular. the fairways were clear of leaves and in perfect condition. this course earns its 124 blue tee slope. look for specials, the regular fees are a bit pricey. overall, a great course. will be back.
Old contemporary course with scenic holes
Normally Old Oak is a great place to play but when we got to the course they were aerating the greens on the front 9 resulting in us having to play the back 9 twice. Would have been nice to know in advance, we would have played somewhere else. Felt like we were being hounded by staff who follwed us around for most of the time to insure we would get done so they could close early.
This course is in good shape
This course is good to play when is windy, because it has a lot of big oak trees.Greens are in good shape.
Old Oak is a classy golf course and much more for your entire game
Always enjoy this course due to its well maintained conditions overall and many of the hole layouts require some good tee shots to stay within their nicely wooded fairways, being challenging and scenic. The (Staff) are extremely friendly and make you feel valued, look forward to going back soon for some more rounds. Also Old Oak put together a well thought out practice range in recent years course improvements, very smooth set up for learning the game or working on fine tuning. Make a tee time, bring family, friends, co-workers and your sure to enjoy the entire package at Old Oak for more than golf, great people(staff), bar, and food, no doubt. Neunann!!
Beautiful course, lots of doglegs. very nice greens
Old Oak is a beautiful and well maintained course. It's not easy but not overly difficult. A lot of trees can make it tough if you can't hit straight. Gentle hills, great vistas and nice greens. The only down side is they tend to overbook. Nothing crashes your game like making the turn only to find the back nine has a waiting line at the tenth hole and the pace of play slows to a crawl. If they could control that it would be a five star on anybody's scale.
Unless you like slow golf, play somewhere else
I have golfed Old Oak several times the last few years, but my most recent visit will most assuredly be my last visit. Apparently, the course books times from sunrise to 8am on both the 1st hole and the 10th hole. My twosome was the first group off on the back, and played 10-18 in a little over an hour. When we got to the 1st teebox, there was a 4 some in the fairway and a 3 some on the box, requiring us to wait over 20 minutes to start the "back" 9. It took us 3-1/2 hours, as a twosome, on a Saturday morning, to play the back. Not 1 ranger ever came out on the back to regulate pace of play. The course is very poorly managed and the staff was completely dismissive when we questioned the management of the course by having groups go off the front and back. The pace of play was horrific, and it was made worse by the attitude of the staff. There are plenty of other courses as good or better in the south suburbs. I'd pass on Old Oak and patronize a course that appreciates your time and your dollar.
Out dated, Beat up greens. Friendly staff and nice scenery for course
The staff was extremely courteous and helped out when they didn't have to. The course is beautiful, however to many holes were beat up and the place looks like the fanciest place I've ever been, if I lived in the 80's.
Nice course but...
The pace of play on a Monday afternoon was disgusting. A fun track to play but reviews before I played talked of pace being slow. Unfortunately, that was the case. Try to find a opening tee time and enjoy this old course with small greens at your pace.
